Jenkintown area, Best of the Best?

One of our favorites is Tiffin, a very good Indian restaurant, next to Marco Polo. I know you said you don't like spicy but frankly we haven't had a lot of spicy dishes there and one of my absolute favorites is the butter chicken. Nice decor, small place, good service.

Six packs in or near Cheltenham?

I've actually been to Capone's a couple times recently. The beer menu is quite impressive as well as the big take-out selection. Good buffalo wings too. Not close at all unfortunately. Have also been to Earth Bread to fill a growler. Also a bit further than I'd prefer. Wegman's, of course, has a great selection too, but Warrington's about 45 mins from me. Would love to find something closer.

Six packs in or near Cheltenham?

Thanks, will have to check both of these out.
Grey Lodge seems to be related to Hop Angel which is very close by me, but alas they don't have a take-out beer license yet.

Six packs in or near Cheltenham?

It's ridiculous that someone even has to ask this question, but does anyone know of good places in or around Cheltenham to buy six-packs of beer? (other than bars) How about brewpubs that will fill a Victory growler? Thanks PLCB.

Updates (2009) on Indian restaurants in Philly area

Yup. Stopped in yesterday (Wed, 11/11/09) and they're open! I was told 11:30am to 9:30pm(?) 7-days a week.

Why can't we get a Wegman's in Philly?

Wegmans Bridgewater, NJ on Rt 202 has a wine and beer store attached to it. It can be controlled separately but you can just walk through to it through the main grocery store to get to it. Might have slightly different hours - not sure.

Why can't we get a Wegman's in Philly?

When I lived out in Coatesville I would hit the Downingtown Wegman's for most of my regular shops then moved to Cheltenham so I have to go to either Warrington or Cherry Hill. Also stopped by the new one in Collegeville on opening weekend (yikes!). Would have to say that for all intents and purposes they're all great. All 3 PA ones have a great beer selection, they all have the killer (but expensive) asian hot table and all the other things that make Wegman's such a unique and fantastic store with an unbelievable amount of choices. Great meats, breads, cheeses and of course prepared foods. Trust me, you will not be disappointed no matter which one you go to!

Pub @ Wegman's in Collegeville

I just have to comment that I think Wegman's is awesome. I was introduced to them also in Rochester way back in 1981 and was impressed with their bulk food section and that, yes, they sold beer too but most grocery stores sold beer in NY anyway. What's fantastic is that they took the trouble to jump through the hoops that the PLCB put up in order for them to be able to sell beer. Hats off to them! What a concept, buying beer (and in NJ, wine) in a grocery store! Great selection of craft beers. Now you've got me started...
:-)

Updates (2009) on Indian restaurants in Philly area

We love Tiffin, it's our go-to place for guaranteed great food! We usually go to the one on Girard Ave, but did check out the Mt. Airy location a month or so ago. We were not disappointed. Plus, we've learned they're opening another one in Elkins Park, very close to where we live! Yahoo!

All u can eat sushi

We used to go to Aoi in center city Phila but I hear it's changed it's name to Aki, upgraded the interior and is now limited to Wed and Sundays only for all-you-can-eat. Am eager to check out the new place. $25 for all-you-can-eat. Obviously can't vouch for the new place, but we always thought the sushi was great and the service was fine too.

Wonder if they have entrainment like Hotel Jonas?

I should have said that we need someplace quiet. Live music, unfortunately, is not an option for our group as two of us are hard of hearing and we couldn't have any kind of conversation.

Good Diner close to I-76 in the Pittsburgh area?

Awesome. Just what we're looking for!
Thanks.

Good Diner close to I-76 in the Pittsburgh area?

Looks like the Venus Diner is gone. Moved to Cleveland:
http://dinerman.wordpress.com/2008/09/25/venus-diner-gibsonia-pa-cleveland-oh/
I hate when that happens.

How about Dick's Diner in Murrysville? Looks like it's only about 5 miles from the TPK.

Good Diner close to I-76 in the Pittsburgh area?

My wife and I will be cruising past Pittsburgh on the PA Turnpike around lunch-time on our way to Michigan and would love to find a good diner for lunch. Can anybody recommend one?

We tried in vain to find Pip's on a previous trip and did go to Primanti Brothers, but we'd like to find something a bit closer to the turnpike for this trip.

Help! Can't find any indian restaurants near Cheltenham!

Hey, Krewstown is less than 5 miles from us! Gonna have to check this one out soon! Thanks and will let you know how it is.

Help! Can't find any indian restaurants near Cheltenham!

Thanks HungryintheBurbs and malkazanie. Our next door neighbors told us about what sounds like the same place on Adams Ave. Unfortunately, it's closed.

Will try to check out the Krewstown Plaza joint and someone else mentioned Palace of Asia too.

Any good indian restaurants near Cheltenham?

Hey, thanks for the replies, sorry I took so long to see these.
Will try them out but we're still looking for something closer to Cheltenham.

Thanks!

Help! Can't find any indian restaurants near Cheltenham!

We've done web searches, looked in phone books, and asked our neighbors and can't find any indian restaurants near Cheltenham. Can anybody help us?

Any good indian restaurants near Cheltenham?

Just moved to Cheltenham and don't know where the good indian places are. I found some listings for India Delight at 7041 Castor, Lucy's Indian Cusine at 7518 Castor, and Bombay Samrat at 738 Adams.

Can anyone vouch for these or suggest any good altenatives?

We're jonesing and have had to resort to making our own (gasp!) but it just ain't the same! Tiffin's just too far for a weeknight drive.

-John.

BEST MEXICAN FOOD, WORTH A DRIVE, BYOB, NEAR WEST CHESTER AND PHILLY, INEXPENSIVE

I have to agree. I never used to like Mexican food much until I moved to West Chester and started finding some of the great, out of the way authentic places around. I just moved to Cheltenham but anytime we wanted real Mexican it was always worth the drive down to Kennett Square. You won't be disapointed!

Place for casual biz meeting near Morristown, NJ?

A prospective client and I are looking for a place to meet near Morristown, NJ for lunch tomorrow or some place not far from Rt. 287 and/or Rt. 80. He's coming from Fish Kill, NY and I'm coming from Philadelphia. Can anyone recommend a decent place where we could have a casual business meeting? Doens't have to be anything fancy, in fact I don't think either of us wants to spend a lot. Even a great classic diner would be great. Wifi access would be a definite plus but not a requirement.

Any suggestions would be grealy appreciated. No pizza shops though!
:-)

Thanks,
John.

Good Indian in/near Cheltenham?

Just moved here. Our new benchmark is Tiffin Store on Girard Ave near 7th.

What's in/near Cheltenham?

We checked out Szechuan Mandarin on Sunday. My fiance's a vegetarian and she got hot and sour soup and Gen Tso's Chicken (both veggy of course) and thoguht they were quite good, the soup in particular. I had some chicken lo mein that I thought was ok, but I'm really picky when it comes to lo mein. Good amount of chicken and good flavor but too many crunchy veggies for my preference. Still, we're looking forward to going back and eating in some time (we got take-out). Thanks for the recommendation - great to know they have a whole vegetarian menu!

I also stopped by (the origianal?) Lee's Hoagie house on Cheltenham Ave for a hoagie. The place isn't so great, not somewhere I'd like to eat in, but the hoagie was really good. Great soft bread, good amount of meat and just enough oil. Could have used a tad more vinegar for my taste but really quite good. I'll probably be going back there again despite the environs.

Still looking forward to trying Pepinella's and Rieker's for some sausages.

What's in/near Cheltenham?

Funny you should mention Riekers. I'm a big carnivore and was quite intrigued when I noticed their store while driving by. I fully intend to stop in when I get a chance a sample some of their sausages.

As an aside, I've just moved here from Coatesville and last year bought some locally raised organic Black Angus beef from a local farm. By far the best tasting beef I've ever had! The average price was great too. Only drawback is they only take so many orders at certain times of the year and you have to get a mix of cuts (technically, you buy a portion of a live animal and they butcher it for you). You can also buy just ground beef from them. If you've never tried something like this I believe it's well worth the effort!

Best Indian food

I've only just started really craving Indian food and have only tried a few places but we just learned about The Tiffin Store at 7th and Girard. Not the greatest neighborhood and the dining room is tiny without a ton of atmosphere but the food is AMAZING! Great prices and by far the best Indian I've had. It's our new favorite. I'm in the process of trying everything on the menu. You have got to check this place out and if you're lucky enough to live in their delivery area... well, you get the idea.
