Pine and Crane - no prices on takeout menu

As far as I know this is the case. The management told me the veggies were grown in the bay area by family.

Pine and Crane - no prices on takeout menu

It rankles me when I see a menu without prices. It's like the Cheese Store in Silver Lake. I love their merchandise but hate the process of having to ask how much everything costs.

If I were running a restaurant or any other retail business, my goal would be to make the potential customer as comfortable as possible as opposed to putting them on the back foot by having to ask.

Pine and Crane - no prices on takeout menu

I'm a big fan of Pine and Crane and get takeout from them perhaps more often than I should - I live just up the street.

A few weeks ago, I noticed that they removed the prices from their on-line menu, which did not sit particularly well with me. I emailed them for clarification and this was (part of) their response:

"... we didn't know if people actually looked at the prices very much and now that you emailed me about this, we will be sure to include the prices on our new website (which should be out within the next month)."

This strikes me as decidedly odd. Perhaps price means nothing to some of you, but if I'm ordering takeout on a harried weekday night, I kind of like to know how much I'll be paying.

Thoughts?

Help Please! A week in LA to dine!

Mastro's gets a lot of love on this board but, unless you like a Tel Aviv nightclub ambiance, I'd avoid and opt for Cut or Wolfgang's instead.

Musso and Frank is great if you sit in the bar room. Can be kind of lonely and depressing in the dining room.

Don't go into Dan Tana's expecting exceptional food. You're going for its very specific - and fun if you're a drinker - vibe.

For downtown, I'd recommend Bestia, if you can get in.

And for Florentine steak, check out chi SPACCA on Melrose. Pricey but easily the most memorable steak I've had in years.

McD on Imperial Hwy in Brea - create your own burger and new concept

No thanks.

For me, eating McDonald's is akin to swallowing a handful of gravel.

Super Burger - Pasadena

When I was a kid growing up in NY and NJ a "California burger" meant a burger served with lettuce, tomato and maybe mayo. Thousand Island was not included.

Adventures in Hipster Service

Yeah, I love when I get "is this your first time dining with us?" More often than not my response is something along the lines of "yes, but I am familiar with the concept of ordering food, eating it and paying at the end, so we're cool."

Rusty Pot Cafe (Inglewood)

Ah, that sounds pretty generous. Will have to check it out.

Thanks for the rec.

Not to stir the pot but Plan Check is pretty casual so I see nothing wrong with this. Now, if this happened at L'Espadon at the Ritz, Paris...

Thanks for the clarification, sport.

Not sure what you're trying to say re: Plan Check. Was it that the guy called you "man"? Are you a woman?

Yeah, Fred 62 pretty much pioneered this "style" of service, although I never found it especially annoying there.

It would be interesting if the sandwiches turned out to be delicious and I was stuck with a dilemma. In reality however, they were pretty meh.

Adventures in Hipster Service

I called in a to-go order at Schodorf's Luncheonette in Highland Park - four sandwiches, a couple of bags of chips and four "artisinal" sodas.

When I arrive, the food from my order is piled on the counter. I pay the painfully hip girl - complete with Van Gogh hat cocked just so - at the register and wait. The pile of individually wrapped sandwiches, etc. is just sitting there. The girl turns to her smart phone.

Honestly befuddled, I ask, "can I have a bag for that?" She takes her time looking up from her phone and eventually hands me a bag. There's an awkward pause. When I realize I'm getting no further help from her, I hastily bag the food as she watches and avoid the tip jar on the way out.

Best General Tso Chicken in LA?

Same area of origin but the usual rotation was something like: General Tso's, beef/broccoli, chicken w/black bean sauce, salt and pepper shrimp, pork and shrimp lo mein (which was always incredibly greasy), spare ribs, egg rolls, mushu pork and wonton soup.

What the Hell Is a Peppadew?

I prefer cherry peppers - especially the progresso hot ones packed in oil - as Pappadews have a sweetness that I find off-putting.

Tomato Pie Pizza Joint Coming to South Pasadena

You appear to be comparing apples and oranges or, in this case, Neapolitan style pizza for NYC style folding slices. Tomato Pie is decent for the latter. Their attempts at the former - their vaunted "grandma" - is pretty shitty.

Tomato Pie Pizza Joint Coming to South Pasadena

I grew up in NJ and NYC and, to be honest, Tomato Pie makes a serviceable slice. We ordered a pie with sausage and roasted peppers for football yesterday afternoon and it was more than decent. By no means revelatory but certainly ok for a quick pizza fix.

And yes, the idea of pizza with BBQ chicken (or Buffalo chicken) and ranch dressing is frickin' gag-inducing.
