What's your drink of choice to get at a bar/restaurant and what is it and where do you get it at ?

I haven't and, at $200/bottle I probably won't any time soon.

I shy away from JD products in general and one with such a ridiculous name is probably gonna keep me away.

:)

I'm with you on Bulleit. Their bourbon tastes like Jack Daniels to me, which is the opposite of a compliment.

Both their rye and bourbon taste much better with water, soda or some melted rocks. Otherwise they have an unpleasant harshness.

I'll have to give fighting cock a try. Never even heard of it.

It's delish, isn't it? And nothing beats it at that price point.

Yeah... I don't worry about that.

Microwaves Are Essential for Things We Don't Need Them For

throw a bunch of raw veggies in a plastic container. Pour in an ounce of water or less. Sprinkle in salt. Place top on container but don't seal completely. Nuke for three minutes. Easy peasy steamed veg.

Anyone know who/what will replace Tom Bergin's?

I have high hopes but "good for them" remains to be seen. Their previous, slightly fancy-fide iteration took off like a lead balloon. It lasted for only a few months.

I was gonna ask, did it reopen and close for a second time???

Best fried chicken restaurants or take out

I'm not the biggest fan of Gelson's in general but their fried chicken is very tasty and always moist. Bonus points for a relatively low price. I think they charge something like $7.99 for 8 pieces.

Steak & Booze b/w Silver Lake and WeHo

Trying to make me feel better? :)

Honestly, my career used to involve finding good food, writing about food and making it look good on TV so these days, it's nice to let others do a large amount of legwork and just swoop in to reap the benefits.

No apology necessary.

This board is fantastic and honestly, I eat few restaurant meals without consulting it first.

I'm not driving any sort of bargain Keithvin. My dry aged reply was strictly for informational purposes. Oh, and has anyone held a gun to your head, forcing you to reply?

I understand that you may have a compulsion but maybe you should try resisting it, eh???????????????

Yeah, I'm more of a ribeye/bone-in ribeye guy.

It's pretty easy to tell if it's dry aged - flavors definitely more concentrated and maybe even a bit gamey.

I've steered clear of the steak at DT's because I assumed it was not dry aged/prime.

Can anyone confirm or deny?

Looks fantastic but perhaps for another time. I don't think they offer actual booze.

Actually Kevin, Tana's is definitely a DFE - "Dude Friendly Environment" - so that might work.

I've been to Wolfgangs. Actually had the dubious pleasure of dining next to the amazingly clueless Lee Baca the last time I was there.

I won't go on an anti-BH screed but let's just say I'd like to avoid it altogether.

Thanks, but trying to keep it between Silver Lake and WeHo. We've got a push/pull thing going on with who meets who where.

I'm not sure if you've seen the Curb Your Enthusiasm with Jason Alexander but it's something like that.

Steak & Booze b/w Silver Lake and WeHo

Meeting a friend for a "dude" meal of steaks, brown alcohol and/or martinis on Thursday and am trying to get a handle on our options.
My first inclination would be to hit Musso & Frank but then I thought of Dan Tana's, although I've never had a steak there.

I'm pretty much allergic to anything in BH, so would prefer to skip it altogether.

Price point isn't necessarily a huge consideration, although I'd like to keep it on the "moderate" side of expensive. Looking for a place with more of a clubby, manly vibe as opposed to the Tel Aviv nightclub ambiance one finds at Mastro's BH.

Any suggestions?

Birthday Cocktails for a group of 8-10 on a Monday Night - Eastside/DT

You could try Jay's Bar or Thirsty Crow - both on Sunset.

Jay's is a bit more downscale in appearance but their booze and cocktails list is very impressive.

The Thirsty Crow is more poseur-friendly, think ironic handlebar mustache, but the beverage roster - particularly when it comes to brown liquors - is probably the best in the 'hood.
