Just for You in potrero hill or Plow (long lines at plow, slightly shorter at just for you).

citizen's band (but more brunchy than breakfast). Pinkie's bakery is just next door.

On south park is Butler and the Chef. Amazing quiche, but the quiche doesn't come out until later in the morning.

Homebound: Need delivery and take out options
2nd the recommendation for grubhub.
If you want some healthier meals that you don't need to eat right when they get delivered, try Lilah belles. Heat and serve when you want it. http://lilahbelles.com/
Great Casual Omakase??
When I've sat at the sushi bar I've been able to talk to them. Sometimes it's just to say YUM but they are friendly and casual.
Food Itinerary - Please help narrow
I LOVE canteen but it's beer/wine only.
Bar Agricole is good food and cocktails. You may want to add AQ to your list; also really good food and cocktails.
I actually like heaven's dog better than slanted door but that may be because it's really easy to walk into and the cocktails are good.
you may want to hit up an Off the Grid, too. I think there's one in the upper haight one night during the week. A good way to get a bunch of food trucks at once.
Last night in town - Looking for sushi
I agree Ryoko can be hit or miss. When it's on (and you order fish of the specials board) it can be really good.
Another option is Hecho. Newly hired Sushi Chef from Kabuto. I went for lunch and though the quality was terrific.
Just moved to Mountain View from New York. Help an east coast hound find his new favorite haunts!
My fave peninsula places:
Sushi Sam's in San Mateo
and Palo Alto Sol (palo alto) and the sister restaurant Viva Sol (Mt. View). GREAT enchiladas.
Last night in town - Looking for sushi
2nd the recommendation for Ryoko. Really fun atmosphere and good sushi.
Great Casual Omakase??
Sushi Sam's (in San Mateo) is about 20 minutes out of SF and has a great omakase. Super casual. Friendly sushi bar.
Best Ethiopian in Bay Area?
Went there last night. The new location is "brighter" inside than the old one which makes sense since it's a coffee shop by day.
Food, even though they are currently only serving a limited menu, is still excellent. It's great to have them back.
Help This BC Hound fine-tune his SF culinary escapade
If the weather is nice Tony's has a slice place/takeout next door. There are plenty of seats outside, but no table service or booze.
Still, if there's a wait at Tony's it's a way to quickly order a slice or anything off the Tony's menu.
Question about Komi
Thanks for your quick response.
Cardamon + cumin are my two unwelcome flavors. (combined with a distaste for all-spice from my dining partner).
Etate looks perfec for the just landed dropped of bags and went to get food place.
The Gibson looks interesting. Is it reservation only?
Are these all places we can go to San Francisco nice casual?
Question about Komi
We'll be in DC for a few days in May and are contemplating Komi (or Minibar if we can get in since we loved e in Vegas).
My question:
We're not big fans of greek food/Mediterranean seasonings. Are Komi's flavors along that line, or is that just an inspiration?
(and as an aside.. we're staying in dupont circle and would love suggestions for cocktails -- is the columbia room worthwhile? -- and places open late for ethiopian food... willing to wander...).
thanks!
Burgers and coffee, that's elf food, apparently -- your thoughts solicited
I thought of one more... Citizen's band.
The bonus - they use buns baked next door at Pinkie's bakery, and their bacon is tasty.

I do really like the Slow Club burger but I was surprised at how much I liked the burger at Epic Roasthouse. I know people may blast it, and it is crazy expensive, but it's huge and comes with a platter of fixings so you can top it how you like. If it's nice outside there's not much better than sitting outside for lunch w/ a burger and a beverage.
Sadly one of my fave burgers was the mini-burger at Thermidor. Sad because they are no more...

French Laundry or Benu or.....
we just had an amazing meal at Saison. I much preferred it to my meal at French Laundry for these reasons:
- i left full and completely satiated (I was not satisfied at French Laundry)
- the atmosphere at Saison is very very relaxed. Incredibly professional service but in a warm and comfortable setting.
- the meal was very imaginative with great flavors.
We didn't do the wine pairings but we did enjoy the bottles we had.
I have not eaten at Atelier Crenn or Benu.
Great restaurants around SoMA that are stroller-friendly
You've managed to pick a bunch of small places. My thoughts:
Canteen -- too small to fit a stroller (though I haven't been there since the slight remodel I don't expect the size has gotten better)
AQ - might work out. Is quieter (or was before their reviews) brunch time. Might be worth calling them.
Swan's -- only counter seating and tight seating at that. Strollers wouldn't fit.
Yank Sing -- should work. Some of the seats are super tight; some are roomier
Citizen's band -- should be able to fit a stroller but I'd give them the heads up. All the tables are lined against one wall.
Slanted Door- Along with Yank Sing, the roomiest of your places.
Just For You Cafe in the Dogpatch
The place is a bit crowded on weekends so be prepared to wait.
I'm a fan of the huevos rancheros there and especially the Yowza green chile sauce (hello New Mexican style chile). The beignets are great.
I also LOVE their cinnamon raisin toast (baked fresh on site) and sometimes get eggs and crabcakes (crabcakes are also good) just so I can get the toast.
Oh! and the BLT is awesome (again, the bread is so good...)
Please help us get excited about SF again! (a little long)
My two favorite places of the past year were:
Citizen's Band
and
A.Q.
and one of my all-time faves is Canteen.
Maybe add them to your list?

Party/Reception Venue
I've been to several parties at Tres. The back room is private, can be dressed up as you like and makes for a festive atmosphere.
T-Dub's on Fridays
it's only open weekdays during the day. When they were first opened they had a few weekends and I picked up some sides. I remember them being decent but have not tried anything else (and sadly can never make it there during the day).
I'd also love a report :)
Foodie from Chicago needs to know what SFO Neighborhood to live in.
spend some time in some of the different areas of SOMA.
The stretch of folsom with City Beer, Bloodhound, Citizen's band and Radius is great (and City Beer is just awesome).
21st amendment is nice and south park is quaint.
(and lots of former Chicagoans I know live in SOMA... there's something to the "dead feel" that creates a neighborhood :).
christmas eve and day recs S.F.
Bushi Tei is doing a christmas goose omakase dinner.
Here are other suggestions open for Christmas eve.

I disagree. I think dogpatch is great for dogs (esprit park, outside seating at piccino, walk to the butcher and great dog day cares). It is a little desolate but an easy walk (or muni ride) into town.
('course I live in SOMA with dogs because you can walk to everywhere from there, too, and it's easy to go south).
Bay Area specialties to give for Xmas?
XOX truffles is a favorite of mine, and they'll ship then from here.
Chinatown food crawl
Z and Y and Bund are right across the street from each other (and quite good) but I don't think I could tell you the go to dish at each. Maybe the gazillion pepper chicken at Z &Y?
Does SF have good midrange neighborhood restaurants that are not loud/overcrowded?
2nd the recommendations for both south park cafe (can always just walk in) and Zuppa (same). actually all the recs above are great. If you venture a little further, there's Turtle Tower on bryant and 6th and Citizen's Band and Radius on Folsom & 7th.

what is involved in visiting the main tokyo fish market to eat sushi there??
We just went on Friday . We got there before 5 am and got in line for the auction. They have limited availability each morning. A small group gets to go in at 5:25 (I think) and a second group follows. We were there in time to be in the middle of the first group.
We went straight from the auction to sushi daiwa (basically walking with storefront pictures on our iPhones until one matched one of our pictures). We were able to walk straight in (and there were 4 of us). We were allowed to take pictures. It's been one of my most favorite breakfasts while in Japan (so far)....
Please critique our eating itinerary...
Agree with sfbing. Tell us more about the kind of food and experiences you like? The ones you've picked are consistent, stable and very traditional. They're good restaurants yet none of them scream "san francisco" to me. They could each exist in any city (IMO). I would maybe keep one from that list and mix it up with some others.
Are there cuisines you like better than others?
