Fran's Chicken Haven in Boca Raton, FL now KOSHER!
I also had to check it out when I was down there for pesach. Went there on the Sunday after pesach at about 4 pm. Took out a lot of stuff. It was all very fresh (obviously, given the date) and delicious. I took the chicken home to the other side of boca, it was in the car for about 30 minutes. When we got home, the chicken was still crispy and hot.
gotham burgers teaneck
no they are open already. They want to start delivering after the holiday.
Fran's Chicken Haven in Boca Raton, FL now KOSHER!
I hope it does to the fullest! Checking them out on the web yields many positive comments about the quality of the food and the dedication to the chicken. Obviously there wont be a real mac and cheese there, and bisquit recipies will have to be adapted but if they bought the business to change it, thats a waste of money.
Kosher Pop-up Restaurant
does anyone think it would be interesting to go to a pop-up kosher restaurant? It would be possible to "pop-up" kosher in so many interesting restaurants and places that we dont usually get to experience. Obviously this is not on the level of a chef ludo type situation, but I think it would be interesting to try...
as far as the kosher cert, even though I tried to keep it out, I am surprised that the hashgacha is based out of fla. Never heard of them. not so comforting when the hashgacha is 1000 miles away...

Burgers Bar - Cedarhurst
I think MartyB was referring to the one that opened in the 5 towns.
Jerseychef, are you the owner of the Gotham Burger Company?
Sushein - Conveyor Belt Sushi
Their website is up. There are pictures in the gallery, but it doesnt say anywhere that it is kosher or what the hashgacha is. It looks like there are some yarlmukas in a pic...
Kosher Sausage Casings
Rabbi Elkin, of YU, has started a meat company in Hackensack NJ where he is doing the Shechita himself and is also "treiboring" the back half of the animal. He does NOT have a national hasgacha, however i checked with my local rabbi (orthodox) and he has deemed it acceptable.
He might be a good source for casings.
Check out his website www.bisrakosher.com
I will be purchasing some goat as soon as I talk my wife into trying it!

Kosher butcher in Lower Westchester
Isnt there a place in new rochelle, new roc glatt? Anyone ever been there? How is the seasons?
Should you salt a kosher steak?
If you want it to taste good you should!
Firstly, remember that the cuts that are salted are the larger cuts which are then broken down, so your steak would not retain a lot of the salt. Also, the salt that is used for kashering is rinsed off.
Salting and leaving it in the fridge to "dry" will create an intense sear, and seasoning it the night before will also the salt to penetrate.

Hottest Kosher Food
Now if Cholent started trending in non-kosher restaurants in the city, THEN I could consider it a hot item!!!
Imagine a cholent course at Per-Se? (I cant believe I even just wrote that!)
Hottest Kosher Food
OK. I dont think that having sushi trend as the hottest kosher food is embarassing...although we were a few years behind the rest of the food culture, sushi WAS a super hot item and it did alter the landscape of kosher dining even up till now. The point is, I dont see cholent making that same impact in the kosher restaurant world where (almost) every kosher restaurant MUST have it on the menu.
Furthermore, if Gefilte Fish is on that list next year I will retire and never cook again!
Hottest Kosher Food
Look, I love cholet as much as the next guy but to call it the "hottest kosher food" is a little ridiculous.
Hottest Kosher Food
I thought we have made real progress in the world of kosher food with the arrival of places like Mikes Bistro, Pardes, etc but I am disturbed today to read an artile in the Kosher-today newsletter discussing the hottest new kosher food......CHOLENT!.
Besides the fact that this article is basically an advertisement for one specific "cholent maker" in the 5 towns, I find it hard to believe that this could or should be considered the "hottest kosher food"
It seems every time we take a step forward we take 2 steps back.
Any thoughts...
Framboises: Kosher? Other Suggestions for Kosher Liquor for Gifting?
Has he ever has Raspberry Lambic beer? I love raspberry as well and I cant get enough of this beer.

Teff?
QC, could you explain what you mean by it being harmful to the community? If you have a choice between something with a hashgacha and one without, (assuming it doesnt specifically NEED a hashgacha) Why wouldn't you purchase the one with the hashgacha, and how is that harmfull to the community?
Best Falafel
I have eaten in naomis for 15 years and have never seen a falafel ball in the microwave! I love the falafel there. It is the best...
Mevushal wine - Which are the best?
GE, is it true that you can mevushal the juice first, before you start the process of making wine? Do you think that could improve the quality of the finished product?
Mevushal wine - Which are the best?
I have always been a fan of anything from the Dalton label. I loved the Dalton Caanan red which was a great blend. I would go with anything dalton.

New "Mike's Pizzeria" taking over Aroma Pizza (Midtown Manhattan)
well, checking the Great Kosher Restaurants website, there already is a restaurant listed as "Mikes Pizzaria" located on 36th street with apicture, so I think this is what he is doing.
kosher skittles?
Clipped from "Koshertoday" newsletter.
Now, Orthodox Jews and other kosher consumers will finally be able to “taste the rainbow,” if the rumors of the OU certifying Skittles candies are true. Gelatin had long been one of the ingredients in the candies, preventing it from ever attaining kosher or halal certification, but recent packages of the popular candy have that former key element gone from their ingredient listing, leading some candyholics to speculate the kosher certification is not too far off in the future.
If skittles becase kosher I would definitely buy them!
Review of Ariels of Englewood
Was this restaurant even open in july? I was under the impression by the staff that they have only been open a few weeks...
KC. I dont think you should resist giving your opinion as most places want to know the problems, especially when they first open in order to correct whatever they are doing wrong.
If I were you, I would give them another shot, but I would definitely let them know what happened the last time.
Review of Ariels of Englewood
After eating tons of meat over the holiday, I had the opportunity to take the family out to eat last night and since we were craving dairy, we decided to try the new place in englewood.
Decor- the place is beautiful. It is not your traditional dairy pizza place. I would compare it to what Pasta factory used to be but with a little more warmth. There are 2 dining areas, the area in the back has a huge skylight and beautiful exposed bick. We sat in the back as we are a noisy crew (the hostess sat us there, I think this is part of the system) The place is very clean and bright (some might say too bright) but all in all, the place is very well done.
Service - The service was excellent. Now just so you know, we went early ( I know it was a fast day) and it wasnt especially busy. But the hostess seated us, brought menus and the waitress came right over with water and then gave us time to review the menu. When we did have questions, she was very capapble of answering all our questions and even joked to us that there had been a test about the menu! After we ordered, the waitress came over with a bread basket that had fresh baked bread, not frozen dinner rolls.
Food- this restaurant has so many options that there were many things that we wanted to try but we could not order it all. My wife started with a soup ( I know it is boring, but you can tell a lot about a restaurant just by a soup) they do 2 different soups every day and my wife tried the corn chowder which she said was excellent and I tasted it and agreed. I had a Tuna Tostada, with is seared tune on a tortillia, with avocado, marinated cucumber and chipolte mayo and it was great. For the kids I ordered a mac and cheese and a fish and chips. The mac and cheese also came with string beans which was a nice change from french fries. The kids meals also came with a drink (apple juice) each kids meal was 8.99, i think. Very reasonable.
For our main we were torn, all the pastas looked great but we were drawn to the ravioli for 1 reason. The waitress said they were home-made. Now many times a restaurant will say the something is homemade and I know when it comes that it is not. I dont know why restaurants lie, but the do. I didnt know what to expect. But when they came, they clearly were fresh. They were very large and delicious. The cheese filling had a little pepper added and the whole thing was great. My wife had the sesame salmon which the waitress said was the most popular fish dish and it was excellent.
After stuffing our faces and finishing off the kids meals ( the mac and cheese was delicious, I asked if they do it adult sizes and they do) We had no room for dessert but the dessert menu looks great. They make all the cakes on premise and they also have a pastry chef.
All in all, I would say that this is a great addition to the englewood/teaneck restaurant scene. I would say that the negatives are for the most part, the brightness of the space, the brick walls that seem to accentuate the noise level, and the amount of seating seems to be a little low based on the amount of space they have. However, the important points, food, service and cleanliness are all above average at this spot.
the website is Arielskosher.com
I will be returning, probably with just my wife, for a nice quiet evening withour the kids
