Your choice for Trader Joe's BEST item

Trader Joe's is a very dangerous place for me! After even if I tell myself that I'm only going in there to look, I walk out with a plastic totebag full of stuff. I seriously love alot of their products, and have eaten just about everything they have. So far these are my all time favorites:

(Holiday) Peppermint Joe Joe's
Peanut Butter cups
Chocolate Soy Milk
Chocolate Croissants
Peach Blueberry Panna Cotta
Rice Crispy Treats
Crab Cakes( frozen, refrigerated, and mini)
Cat Cookies
Raspberry & Brie Phillo Dough appetizers
Masala Burgers
Spa Salad
....

The list goes on and on! At this point it's a miracle I haven't just moved in next door to my local Trader Joe's

Cupcakes :: the Good, the Bad, & the Ugly...

I'm partial to the cupcakes at Cake & Art up on Santa Monica Blvd. They're always test fresh, moist, and they have generous amounts of frosting. I also like the fact that they come in unusual(PB&J) and sometimes seasonal flavors(like Gingerbread)

Falafel Palace In Northridge Rocks My Socks!

Thanks to the many helpful people on this board, I was able to find out about Falafel Palace in Northridge.

At first I admit it took me awhile to find it, since it's a tiny little place on a street corner. When I went in, I was pretty surprised to recieve a complimentary falafel while I decided what to get. The falafel itself was moist, crunchy, and coated with a nice little bit of tabouli. Naturally I selected a falafel, hummus, and tabouli sandwich(around $5.60) I believe.

While the price of the sandwich seemed a little steep to me at first, that changed the moment I got my sandwich. It was way bigger than the falafel sandwiches I normally get at Zankou, and far more delicious! It took me awhile to eat the entire thing, but when I was done, I was stuffed(yet happy!) :).

I'll definitely be going back to try more of their food, but it'll be hard to pick something, since everything on the menu looks good.

Does anyone else like this place, and if you do, can you recommend anything? Thanks!

Eateries Around Cal State Northridge?

All of these suggestions sound great! I did a bit of roaming today and I did manage to find that shopping center where Pita Pocket and Baja Fresh are. It looks like I'm definitely not going to get bored with all of the food choices mentioned. Thanks again! :)

Eateries Around Cal State Northridge?

Hey even though I've already spent a semester at CSUN, I'm not familiar with the eateries in the area. Usually it's because I have very little time between classes, so I usually pack a lunch, or eat at the on campus eateries. This semester I have a two hour break around noon, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good(and cheap) eats. Thanks!

Where can I find dango?

I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can find these delicious little rice flour dumplings on a skewer. It's been years since I last had it at an international fair at school, and I really have a taste for it.

Another Sushi Zo Rave- #3 All Time

Reading this post made my mouth water like a hungry cat sitting at the sushi counter. I've been hearing so much about Sushi Zo from friends and coworkers, so I guess they're all on to something.

Recommendations for cheap but tasty food near Venice and Overland??

Gabi's Mediterranean cafe is honestly pretty good, and Versailles does have a few pretty good dishes. There's also a pretty good Thai restaurant on Jasmine ave called East Wind IV.

Salt Water Taffy?

Back when I was just a kid, I remember that I used to see salt water taffy for sale at lots of places. Well lately I developed a craving for this stuff, but I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find some decent salt water taffy for sale? Thanks!

Govinda's?

Hey is Samosa House by any chance located on Washington Blvd? I think I saw it as I was heading to my local Costco.

Govinda's?

Today a coworker and I were talking, and she brought up one of her favorite spots for lunch. It's a place called Govindas located in the Hare Krishna temple on a street called Watseka, kinda close to Culver City. The way she was raving about how delicious the food was made me kind of curious. Has anyone been to this place, and if so, how is the food? Thanks!

Tito's Tacos -- What up with this place?

The first time I ever had Tito's Tacos was when I was in the seventh grade, and I was nearly flogged afterwards. Why? Well because while the food is okay, I didn't really think it was anything special. I still have it once in awhile with my pals, but mainly because I just like hanging out with them. A trick I learned from a friend(who eats there every week) is to go inside to place your order, since most people line up outside.

Burgers with Unique Toppings

Another vote here for The Counter! It's a few blocks away from where I go to school, so I'll sometimes go there with some buds for lunch. Some of the toppings are definitely the craziest I've ever seen. Ahh but nothing spoils the joy of a burger with Tillamook cheese, fried onion strings, guacamole, bacon, and a pineapple slice, served on an English Muffin. :)

Frugal Food Finds Near The Pantages Theatre

I know there are other threads about restaurants around the Pantages Theatre, but if you're like me(starving student/worker bee) they're out of your price range. So last night before I went to see "Wicked", I was starving, and decided to do some exploring and see what I could find with my limited food budget.

I decided to head south to Sunset Blvd, which is roughly two blocks down from where the Pantages Theatre is. The first place I managed to find that appealed to me was a sushi restaurant called Kabuki. The second restaurant I found that looked good was a Baja Fresh close to the Arc Light Theatre. The other two places I found were my usual last minute resorts to keep myself from starving: KFC and McDonald's.

In the end I eventually picked Baja Fresh(their Baja burrito is so good!), but I was wondering if anyone knew of other frugal finds nearby? After all I know a few other people who are going to see "Wicked", who are also starving students/worker bees :D.

I am looking for a Guatemalan Restaurant

Sadly enough I think good Guatemalen restaurants are something lacking in this city. Why do I say this? Well one of my best pals is of Guatemalen descent, and she constantly whines about the lack of decent restaurants in the city. In fact it seems the only good food you can find is homemade(I've been lucky to dine over). If you ever are lucky to find a place though, I'd recommend this plate called "reyenitos"(I'm not sure if this is the right spelling). They're these deep fried platain balls, filled with sweetened black beans.

Another One For The Pinkberry Club! [moved from L.A. board]

I had to go to Marina Del Rey a few days ago and much to my surprise, I found a Pinkberry in a shopping center! I'd always wanted to try it, but it's almost impossible to get into the WeHo located. Anyways after finally getting my first taste of the stuff, I can understand why other people love it!

Culver City

Natalee Thai on Venice and Clarington is pretty tasty, although crowded at times. There's also a pretty good sushi restaurant called Yokohama located in the Culver Center(this is about 3 blocks from the auditorium)

Well this is probably irrelevant, but I know a really awesome bakery. It's called "Cake and Art", and their cupcakes are among the best I've ever eaten. Here's their address if you're interested:

Good Vegan Restaurants?

I've got a friend coming in from Seattle next week and she's vegan. I'm not vegan(not even vegetarian) so I don't really know of any vegan restaurants. Can someone recommend any good ones in the Santa Monica/Culver City/ West L.A. area? All recommendations will be appreciated :)

Which LA Restaurants are UNDERrated?

I completely agree with you about The Hungry Pocket! I go to school at Santa Monica College(which is directly across the street) and I'm always stunned to see this place is nearly empty. My question is why!? The falafal sandwiches there are hot, crispy, and absolutely delicious!

Beignets in Los Angeles

I really like Grand Lux Cafe's beignets since the portion is big enough for several people. You also get three dipping sauces (Red Raspberry, chocolate, and this delicious liquory vanilla one). It's a delicious way to end a meal.

Chowhound (un-touristy) Recs for L.A.

If you're staying in Pasadena, you should try out a place called Zankou Chicken(I really love this place). It's really tasty Armenian/Lebanese food, and it's always very tasty!

They have tarna(chicken shawerma), beef shawerma, falafel, rotisserie chicken, various sandwiches, and hummus. All of the meals(and sandwiches) come with a side of pickled turnips. Also they have a garlic paste that is seriously delicious and addictive(I don't care if I reek for days afterwards...it's worth it!) :)

The Pasadena location is along Colorado Blvd. (Heading towards the community college I believe)

I like the pistachio(and just about every flavor) at Rite-Aid. *sighs* Ahh it brings back memories of when I was a kid, and I'd go to Thrifty with my parents for a nice delicious cone.
