Joy of food's Profile
Dinner Sat./Lunch Sun. for 30 football players...halp!
Good one! there is always a ton of space there on Sundays.
Globe, Au Pied de Cochon, Anise, Reservoir
No cattiness intended, just clarifying...;-)
Globe, Au Pied de Cochon, Anise, Reservoir
I suppose that it should be mentioned that Reservoir brunch is amazing food in a VERY relaxed atmosphere - every time I go there is a couple doing the crossword over lattes...it isn't the fine dining atmosphere that some other brunch restaurants have, so if that is what you are looking for I sould see that it would be a bit of a shock. Having said that, it isn't a diner either!
The Great Montreal Bakery Hunt 2007
I love the bread pudding at le Fournil in Westmount.
Restaurant openings
Has anyone been to the new restaurant in little Italy (Ustica?) It has the look of a chain restaurant, but I'm hoping to be proven wrong!
L'Academie on St. Denis
Try the Brasserie Brunoise - they have quite a bit of room & the food is great, something to keep both the adventurous and less adventurous happy.
3 nights in Montreal in September
You have to go to Reservoir for brunch. You will not regret it. It is mentioned in almost every thread about brunch, and for all the right reasons.
The perfect 'Pho? (moved from Quebec)
On this dreary, damp day, my mind has been pondering - SOUP! Well,'pho in particular. And I began to wonder what ingredients, in other people's opinions, make an unforgettable 'pho?
Restaurant Closures
The Arahova on Crescent burned down over a year (maybe two?) ago. There is a new Arahova BYO on St. Catherine's, a few blocks west of Crescent. Haven't tried it though...
Going Next Weekend - Montreal Restaurant Recommendations?
How about Reservoir for Sunday brunch? Great fish & they make a simple two egg & bacon plate a gourmet experience...
Or La croissanterie Figaro?
It sounds like you need something close by your hotel - where will you be staying?
Romantic supper location
How about aux petits ognions? The space is small and cosy, and the quality is great (I've only been once, had the jarret d'agneau, one of the best I've tried in Montreal).
We were the only couple in the restaurant and never felt rushed, the waiter and chef were both very discreet.
Moroccan
I had lunch there yesterday - they have a vegetarian salad that is incredible - I know, a salad is a salad, you may think, but I was blown away! Marinated eggplant, marinated grilled peppers, olives, and the vinaigrette is unlike any I have ever tasted.
Had two tapas, shrimp & veal, which were good but not remarkable.
Meals come with grilled flatbread and morrocan olives, which my date assured me were out of this world.
The tagines looked and smelt delicious (there was a big family dining next to us who were sampling a few of them.
The owner was extremely friendly & attentive.
I plan on returning for dinner some time soon - let us know is you give it a try!
Martinis
I had a great martini at Thai Grill last week - a ginger & lime concoction. I can't remember what else was in it, but it was one of the best cocktails I've had in awhile.
Korean
There is a small korean restaurant on the corner of Chomedey & St. Catherine's (near Atwater) that has had good reviews.
I think that it is called Bulgogi...(good sign!)
Let us know what you find!
Galangal & kaffir lime leaves
Hello chowhounders,
Does anybody know if there is a merchant at JT Market (or surrounding area) that carries galangal & kaffir lime leaves?
I have a craving & can't bear a schlep to Chinatown tonight!

Quiet resto recs??
True, my requirements do seem a bit at odds, don't they?
By quiet I mean has tables where you aren't forced to hear every other conversation in the place, but not necessarily intimate.
Thanks for the suggestion, I haven't been to Les Infidèles yet, the menu looks great.
Quiet resto recs??
Hi fellow Chowhounds!
I have a friend visiting from out of town next week & am planning a dinner out with a small group (mid-week) to catch up.
Here's the challenge - I need to find a fun, casual resto, (downtown, plateau & NDG are all possibilities) that doesn't get too loud -my friend is visually impaired & it is very hard for him to follow conversations when there is too much noise. As I tend to favour loud, rowdy restos (APdC, l'Express, Chez Doval...), I could really use your help!
Mtl Restos w/ Private Rooms for intimate Wedding
Try Tapeo - The dining room is cozy & intimate. They host private parties quite often & last I heard they were open to custom menus. Not sure about vegan options, but it's worth a shot.
Good luck!
Resto recommendations please!
I think that l'Express is a great place - it is not the BEST table in town, but I've never left disappointed & the atmosphere is a lot of fun. Eat at the bar, people watch & chat it up with the bartender - he is a hoot. Be sure to reserve for a Friday or Saturday night meal.
If you don't mind eating late, head over to Lemeac for the after 10pm deal (22$? for an entree & a main).
Chez Doval (Portugese) on Marie Anne is one of my favorite spots, as is Aux Petits Onions - the former is loud & boisterous with a guitar player who makes the rounds a few times a night; the latter is nice for a cozy dinner for two.
Search the boards for BYOs - there are many, MANY good threads on the topic.
Have a great trip!
HABS vs FOODIES
Brasserie Brunoise? Plus you'll be right next to the Bell Center, it's good karma...;-)
Restaurant Closures
I had a similar experience at Garam Masala - I went for the first time 2 years ago and the food was incredible, but my last visit 6 months ago was very disappointing. I have never worked in the resto business - any opinions on why it is so hard to maintain the quality of the product? Is it the responsability of the chef, or are there outside influences that play an equally important role?
Montreal 2 nights next week-help
Another great spot is Lucca in little Italy. I have never had a bad meal there, and the service is top notch. Last time I went our table wasn't ready, so they offered us a glass of wine on the house (our choice!). The dining room is tiny, and full of energy but less noisy than Au pied de cochon, perfect for catching up with a friend. Wherever you end up, enjoy!
Quick dinner recs Ottawa
Hello,
I will be in Ottawa Saturday and am looking for some quickish dinner suggestions - I have an hour, an hour and a half tops.
I will be staying on Somerset between Bank & Elgin, and need a spot within walking distace.
I have tried Fox & Feather, & the Crab Shak in the past, and both have left me feeling - well, empty.
I loved Fairouz but it is no longer there (why oh why did he have to retire??)
I've read good things about the Manx but have only ever been for drinks. What is their menu like?
I appreciate any tips that you can give me!
Major fire at La Maison du Roti
They have mini-cans at Marché PA on Fort - not sure about the Parc ave. location...
Brilliant thing, those mini-cans!
