Casual dinner in Austin - help wanted
Will definitely check out trailers for lunch but want sit down for late dinner. Thanks for the input!
Critique My Picks
Not sure about crabs on the water this time of year- I would check. haven't been and don't know much about this.
Have read good things about Thai-xing but if you want fantastic Thai one of the best new restaurants in town is Little Serow. no reservations- so you must go before they open and hope to get in.
Great burgers at BrGR Joint if you want an alternative. haven't tried Chef Geoff's.
it's not really a very traditional list- so can't be very helpful but hope this helps a bit.

Three dinners in Bethesda
please do not go to Uncle Julio's. Really loud and food is mediocre- at best. I would go with Jaleo and Black's if you must stay in Bethesda. Bethesda has some good food- but amazing....no. Can't speak to the sushi recommendations.
Ladies' Lunch
have you considered Volt in Frederick? They have a great brunch and lots of interesting places to see in the area.
Please rescue my Roman dining experience!
I liked La Gensola, so take this for what it's worth, but our favorite meal in Rome was L'Asina D'oro.
Casual dinner in Austin - help wanted
I'll be in Austin for 3 nights and have dinner reservations at Uchiko and La Condesa. Will also do brunch at Second Bar & Kitchen. I need a casual dinner for one night. Considering: Curra's, Kerbey Lane, or 24 Diner. Also where is the best place for migas? I keep reading that there are lots of places but looking for specifics in downtown area.
Looking to experience local cuisine (no sushi or pizza).
Group Meal Downtown/Penn Quarter
Jaleo just closed for renovations. not sure when it will reopen. Went to Urbana last night and food was mixed- some good, some great, some not good at all. It was not cheap. Graffiato has plenty of options for non-meat eaters. Carmines may be fun too- food doesn't compare to Graffiato.
Pearl Dive Oyster Palace - 14th St. NW
I was there on Christmas Eve and had a wonderful meal. I don't eat oysters but found the barbecue shrimp appetizer and fried chicken well worth the visit. I did get the Pearl's Cup and enjoyed it- refreshing and not too sweet. We had eggnog pie for dessert, which was unique and quite delicious.
Looking for good eats in Rome!
Check out L'asino D'oro. I had a wonderful meal here. We were there for dinner on our very first night in Italy and it was one of our best meals of our trip. They apparently have a three course lunch for 12 euro, which is definitely worth checking out. The eggplant flan was amazing as is the cinghiale (wild boar) with chocolate and vinegar. It looks like dessert but it is a divine combination of sweet and tangy.
I found out about it on this board and will be eternally grateful to those who led me here.

Pasta Fresca in Trastevere
I had a great meal at La Gensola- John Dory fish atop a potato salad and an unforgettable apple pie with cinnamon gelato. I ate at Glass Hostaria as well and liked it very much but it is more of a trendy upscale kind of place and the menu isn't suitable for children unless they are very adventurous eaters.

Florence validation
My Florence visit has come to an end and interestingly Trattoria Garga was one of my favorite meals of eleven days in Italy. I had veal with avocado that was divine. My husband had an amazing swordfish. Service was great. The owner of our hotel in Tuscany told us to avoid Quattro leoni "like the plague" so we skipped it. The one thing that I have learned from this trip- which of course I already knew- is that is impossible to get a concensus on any restaurant and you must take all opinions and go with your instinct.

Pizza in Florence?
I was at 'ino today and absolutely loved it. The bread is the best I've had maybe anywhere and there is a wide selection of panini toppings. Haven't had pizza in Florence so can't help on that front but highly recommend 'for ino for lunch.
Sunday and Monday in Venice
After doing some research on these boards I was ready to commit to Alle Testiere for one of my two nights in Venice. I now see that it is closed both nights. Now what? Can I get some suggestions? My plan is to go to Al Gatto Nero in Burano one night and need an alternative for my last nights in Italy. I am looking for something that would be comparable to Alle Testiere.

Trip Report Part 1: Venice (Long)
thanks for the detailed post. I'm anxious to hear about Florence. I'm having a hard time making decisions on restaurants there for some reason.
Italy trip food suggestions
How far in advance do reservations need to be made.? Is a day or two ago or are we talking weeks?
Florence validation
I have scoured the boards and other online sources for Florence dining. Interestingly, you don't see the same names over and over again, which makes it difficult. Too many choices! I want a combination of traditional and creative/modern cooking. Here's what I have for four dinners:
Trattoria Garga
Cipolla Rosa
Quattro Leoni
Buca Lapi or Trattoria I Due G
Can I please get some feedback?

reservations- how and when?
Great suggestion. Thanks! I do always feel more comfortable when I have reservations.
reservations- how and when?
What is the best way to make reservations for restaurants in Italyz/ Specifically, I want a reservation at Perilli for a Sunday lunch. I do not see a website or anything but a phone number. I do see on this board that reservations are recommended in advance. I used Top Table for a dinner reservation for Glass but they don't seem to have the other restaurants where I plan to dine (L'Asino D'oro, and La Gensola).
Also, is 8:00 pm too early for dinner? Will we be dining alone at this hour or is it respectable?

Three Dinners in Florence
I have four nights in Florence in early November and I take my dining seriously. I have plenty of recommendations for casual options for lunch but am looking for dinner options. I would like a mix of traditional Tuscan and modern cooking. Ora D'Aria interests me but I am afraid that my non meat-eating husband will have nothing to eat (I looked at the online menu and it really is limited). I am planning one dinner at Quattro Leoni. So I still need three recommendations for Florence's best. I'll take suggestions and if you want to point me to previous threads that's ok too.

I've been reading about Perilli including your suggestions for dishes. My husband does not eat meat. Given this, would you still recommend Perilli?

Restaurant blogger -first visit to Rome- help wanted
I write a restaurant review blog and am visiting Italy for the first time with my husband who does not eat meat. I have spent hours on this board trying to figure out how to make the most out of my five meals in Rome. Now I have a headache and I'm ready for some guidance.
We arrive Friday afternoon and I am considering dinner at La Gensola or Palatium
Saturday- we will have a busy day of touring- Forum and Colisseum in the am and then Vatican. Am considering Pizzarium for lunch. I have no idea if it is close by.
Dinner- Glass (or should I switch to La Pergola?)
Sunday- in the neighborhood of Jewish ghetto. need somewhere for lunch
Dinner- Le Tre Zucchi
is L'Asino D'Oro a must? I don't know if it is open on Sunday for lunch.
I would like a blend of traditional and contemporary restaurants and locations that make sense for lunch. I am happy to take a cab for dinner.

40th Bday - Estadio, Eola, or Bibianna?
Estadio has plenty of terrific vegetarian options but they don't take reservations after 6:00 pm which may be a dealbreaker. Bibiana is also very good.

I ate at Adour and Oval Room during the winter Restaurant Week and I highly recommend them both. This year I am heading to Rasika, Tosca, and Watershed.

Graffiato by Mike Isabella opening soon...
My husband and I went to Graffiato last night. we did not have a reservation. we showed up at 8 expecting an hour wait. it ended up being about 30 minutes and we got a great seat upstairs looking into the open kitchen. We loved the food. I too was excited to try the pepperoni sauce. It wasn't as outstanding as I expected but it was still great and it's really nice with the chicken thighs. I am a tough pizza critic- I want the crust to be crunchy and this fit the bill. It had a bit of char, a bit of chew, and some crunch. we had a vegetarian version of the gnocci and the corn agnoloitti. Both were stellar. The flavors were complex, the textures interesting- no complaints at all. I'm going back in a couple of weeks and I can't wait.
If you are not a Mike Isabella fan- sit upstairs. He's downstairs at the pizza oven. But I wouldn't let that stop you from trying the food at Graffiato.

late night dining and lunch during Spoleto
I will be with a group of 8 during Spoleto. We have one lunch at Husk and dinner at Fig. I need somewhere for dinner at 9:30 on Friday night and lunches for Saturday and Sunday. I am considering SNOB or High Cotton for one meal but not sure how late they are open. McCrady's is right up my alley but a little pricier than I want for a late dinner and don't seem to be open for lunch.
Suggestions, please?

Oval Room for RW...anyone been?
I was at Oval Room tonight and thought the meal was wonderful. The menu was specifically for Restaurant Week with five choices in each category. I started with a warm goat cheese and potato pave with poached cherries and cracked peppers. Complex flavors which worked well together. My entree was a crispy skate with red curry sauce. Delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly. Dessert was a citrus vanilla cheesecake with a graham cracker ice cream. Also quite good. My only complaint is that the bread seemed stale. But if the intention is to get me to go back for more, it worked. I'll be back!
Oval Room for RW...anyone been?
I have a reservation for tomorrow night at Oval Room. An interesting article about the value of RW has me thinking twice.

best cheap eats in New Orleans
I am coming to New Orleans for a meeting and have reservations at Bayona for dinner and Cochon for lunch. I need a recommendation for one additional dinner. I want local food and don't want to spend a fortune. Suggestions?
