parkside - meh?
I'm in the minority around here, but I find Parkside to be mediocre at best. I'm willing to give it a third try to hopefully hit the three's a charm, but I'm not in a hurry.
Uchiko is hands down my favorite place in Austin, and honestly, so far, the world. I just got back from a week in San Francisco, eating at a couple of starred places as well as some other trendy things, and nothing competes with Uchiko on any level from food to service.
I think Congress warrants a try next time you're in town as well. I was bowled over by the lobster bisque. The other two dishes were kind of meh, but I'd like to give it another try.
Meatball subs?
My husband orders that pasta dish every single time we go to Enoteca. It's amazing. I bet it'd be outstanding as a sandwich.
Hard Hat Vol IX
Last time I was at Pho Saigon in Chinatown Village, I asked the lady who is always there (owner? manager?) if they'd be opening a South location any time soon. She said it was already in the works, but didn't indicate where. I think she said spring/summer.
Mercury Pizza on South Lamar/Kinney Ave
We ordered pizza from here at work last week, and I thought it was serviceable. The slices are ginormous. We got one margarheita and one with a bunch of meat and veg. The part I wasn't crazy about was the "bone" of the crust (the end). It had a bland, watery aspect to it.
I think a slice and a drink are around $5 for lunch, and the slice is just insanely big.
Help me find the right happy hour
Trio at the Four Seasons is my go to. They have 2 or 3 big bar tables that seat at least 6. You can get more around there if needed. The prices are fantastic and they have a new menu where all of the food is $5. The drinks are all wine, and it's a small list, but it's a really good list.

Sea Urchin for Purchase (not at a restaurant)
Thank you all for the great recs and ideas.
Here's the recipe I found that I want to try:

Best meal in Austin with my wife suggestions please?
Agreed, my favorite restaurant, not just in Austin, but anywhere in the world...so far.
Sea Urchin for Purchase (not at a restaurant)
Does anyone know of any place in Austin that I can buy fresh sea urchin? I'd really like to try my hand at a sea urchin pasta dish, but can't find a place to get it.
Birthday weekend coming up, Uchiko suggestions please
I also love the corn sorbet. The first time I tried it, I was immediately taken back to being 8 years old eating corn pops while watching Saturday morning cartoons. It's my second favorite dessert in Austin...
Birthday weekend coming up, Uchiko suggestions please
We went last month and tried a couple of new things. The ones that stood out were the Jar Jar Duck and the Pork Cheek. Oh the pork cheek. I want to eat that every day for the rest of my life. With Uni on the side.
I second the tobacco cream. It's my favorite dessert in Austin.
Madam Mam's Westgate now Sap's? What's going on here?
Noticed tonight as we were driving by that the MM signage is all still up, but there's a big banner hanging over the patio that says "SAP'S". A peek inside looked like a new interior. Does anyone know what's going on here?
Good Breakfast tacos WAY south.
There's a good little shack on the corner of Stassney and Congress, I think it's the SE corner, called San Juanita. The barbacoa and egg, as well as the papas rancheros are really good. Also, the tacos at Brodie Park Market on Brodie and Davis are serviceable as well as the KC Donut place in the strip with Evangaline on Brodie.
Favorite Austin Desserts?
OMG, I've been wanting to try the Baltimore Bomb pie from Dangerously Delicious ever since I saw it on TV. His pies look incredibly insane. I can't WAIT for this to open!
What about Cooper's?
I really like it. Like you, I think they have great sausage and wonderful brisket. Cooper's is actually where we take out of towners in the spring because the drive is so much prettier and we can go down to Fredricksburg easily from there as well.
Trappistes Rochefort 8 and 10 set to release in Austin
I just read on the Alamo Drafthouse Twitter feed that they will be carrying it at the South Lamar location!
Trappistes Rochefort 8 and 10 set to release in Austin
If you do, you will know who did it :)
Next time I'm at Whole Foods, I'm going to ask if they'll have it since they've had it once before. I'll report back as soon as I know something.
This is shaping up to be an OK fall.
Trappistes Rochefort 8 and 10 set to release in Austin
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. You're all going to have to fight me for it. I'm going to go around town and buy it all up!
This has been a horrible past week/weekend, and this news has made it so much better. 8 is my favorite beer in the whole world. I had it when I went to Belgium 5 years ago and brought some back. Low and behold, I found it that month at Whole Foods downtown, then it was gone.
Seriously Scrumptious, you just made my week. Thank you!
Speaking frankly about Frank
Ah, finally, a voice of reason. I really love the coffee, and I've had some fine brunches (minus the fact that the music is way too freakin' loud), but the rest of the offering to me are, Frankly, not very good. I've tried a few different things over the years from my plain mustard and relish only dog to the currywurst to a couple of interesting sounding daily offerings of sausage and I just don't get it.
The bread is always sub-par, to the point of it feeling like it's disintegrating as I eat, the sausage never quite lives up to the wonderful descriptions, and any variation I've had on the fries other than plain with dipping sauce have been flat out awful.
Love the concept, love the people who run this joint, but the food just doesn't do it for me.
Where to find Guittard or Valrhona chocolate?
I've bought Guittard baking discs at Central Market, and I know that WF used to carry Valrhona. Pretty sure they still do.

Bud's Po-Boys
A few years back, I had a shrimp po boy at Cypress that tasted as close to anything I ever ate growing up in NO. It was so close that I had flashbacks to Gambino's in Slidell as an elementary school kid.
I've been back a few times and it hasn't even been close to that experience. I don't know if I got one on a fluke one day or what, but I'm dying to recreate that experience at some point.
Who serves your favorite sweetbreads?
Yeah, the more I've thought about it, the more they weren't all that. The smaller ones were much better than the larger ones.
I need to get back to Vino Vino. Or try some of these other recommendations to make up for that.

Who serves your favorite sweetbreads?
Last fall I had them for the first time at VinoVino. They were a small plate, probably around $8-10. They were so wonderful. Fatty, creamy, a little crispy. I dream about them...
I had them last week at Contigo and they were just OK. Honestly a little on the dry side. I think they were $9 for the plate and came on parsnip puree with some pickled turnip.
Best Chilaquiles?
I really like Sazon and La Condessa. LaCondessa's are a little "cheesier" than what I've had most places, but they're pretty fantastic.

Hard Hat Report Vol 8
I've had it at brunch at Olivia and it is definitely good. I remember a nicely seasoned crust that was crispy and didn't all come off when you took a bite. The chicken was nice and juicy and the portion was sizeable.
I'll be interested to see how it stacks up against others in price. Mainly Popeye's. Seriously. I love me some Popeye's when it comes to fried chicken.
Korean Fried Chicken
We went a few weeks back and loved it. We got the sweeter one and devoured it. What I love about it is that at first, I was like, meh. Then as I ate more, it got more and more layers of flavor to it. It was interesting chicken! How often can you say that? I really want to go back, but I'm trying to trim my waist line and this is not conducive to that. Boo. Where's my calorie-free, fat-free tasty KFC?
Where to get rabbit in Austin?
Countryside Farms at the Saturday morning downtown Farmer's Market usually has it.
RIP part 4
That is the best idea I've ever heard. Now, how do we go about making this happen? How about A + A (I now prefer it over Asia Market) where Red Robin used to be and Ho Ho where Marie Calender's was?
And if we could get Tanh Ni to just move down here, as well as Pho Saigon, I'd be forever appreciative!

I am going to miss their Champagne truffles so much. Those things were incredible.
My favorite things from Central Market

Mostly to provide snark.
