suggestions for dinner in brooklyn heights

Second to Henry St Ale House - good beer selection (tap & bottles) and the food is always tasty - a step above your usual bar fare. The black bean burgers are homemade, and they're awesome - so are the wings. Plenty of tables so you can have dinner there & not just feel like you're at the bar.

Long Trail Blackberry Wheat in NYC?

Tried this for the first time in VT and loved it - brought back some, but I haven't been able to find the Blackberry Wheat in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Red Velvet Cake

I actually just had fantastic red velvet cake this weekend - Mara's Homemade on E6th & 1st. It's definitely worth sharing though - we couldn't finish it - but delicious and authentic.

Nobu 57 Saturday Night - Where for Drinks First?

Hi Everyone -

I've found similar posts asking for places to go for drinks before Nobu 57, but I wanted to be a little more specific and see if I can get some more suggestions. I am having dinner w/my Dad at Nobu 57, 9 pm reservation, and am looking for somewhere not too pricey or pretentious to have drinks around 8 or so on a Saturday night. If you know something more off the beaten track that wouldn't be totally packed on a Saturday at that time, that would be great, so we can hear each other! Wine or cocktails - either is fine. Also, is there a bar in Nobu 57 itself? If so, how is it?

Thanks for your suggestions!!

Casual Around Beacon Theater?

All good suggestions...also like Wine & Roses on Columbus; it's a wine bar w/decent food, not too pricey. and jaques imos, another one of my standbys.

Hibino - Japanese in Cobble Hill

I was there last night as well - the mackeral obanzai was fabulous, and my girlfriends & I were big fans of the eel roll and the softshell crab special roll. Great service, and a decent wine list (although we found the sake to be a bit on the pricey side for our taste)

Grimaldi's hell

The sign on the door says it's a vacation until August 22 (I think that's the exact date) so hopefully they will re-open...I live around the corner and that's my favorite pizza in the area. Also, MShapiro, I've tried the eggplant parm and some other dishes - very good, solid, Italian cooking and reasonably priced.

Italian for 5

I'm a fan of Cacio de Pepe in the E. Village, also of Cesca on the UWS (a bit overrated, but the food's still good).

The most intimate fine dining restaurant in Manhattan?

One if by Land, Two if by Sea is an old standby for what you're looking for.

Wine Flights in Manhattan?

I like the Divine Bar on the west side better than the east side, but both are great and I think a nice atmosphere.

5 Stars near Liberty and West Streets?

Nobu is in tribeca as well, if you're looking for sushi. Not a big fan of Roy's. Definitely cab it up to either Tribeca or the W. Village - there's nothing of the caliber you're looking for in that area, although there are some nice places to eat (Delmonico's, Harry's Cafe, a variety of places along Front Street in the Seaport). Also a big fan of the Bridge Cafe, just north of the Seaport, which is only a 15 min walk or so from where you're staying.

Ocean City, MD - Where to eat?

My bf & I are heading from NYC to Ocean City Thurs - Sun this week, and staying on Atlantic Ave & 37th St. Looking for some rec's for great dinners - sunsets, good food, casual or more fancy - we're up for anything (especially things in walking distance). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!

Lobster!

Looking for a great place to get whole lobsters, with all the trimmings, and the kind of atmosphere where you don't mind making a mess ripping into it! Any suggestions? Anywhere in Manhattan, or Brooklyn, if you've got a good place.

thanks!

South Street Seaport tomorrow- Need assistance please

I've had mixed experiences at the Paris, but I agree that the way to go is along Front Street. There's a good tapas place, and if you head up far enough, the Bridge Cafe (very classy, more on the expensive side). Also, Mead's is a good bar / casual food option, which isn't too fancy, but is a nice atmosphere.

2 Gold / Gold St. Diner - Anyone tried the sushi?

I've hit up this new place a couple of times, with not so great results. However, in its defense, I did go mostly during its first 2 weeks after opening, so I'm sure things will get better. I went for brunch this weekend - service was much improved, and my fruit/yogurt/granola breakfast was fresh & tasty (although it IS hard to mess that up). Anyone have other experiences to share? Main question is, though, has anyone tried the sushi???

Great Cupcakes/Birthday Cake Recommendations?

I'll put in another vote for CRUMBS - plus, they come in large or small sizes so you can get a variety to share. i'm also a big fan of their frosted cookies - so good!

Upper West Side vegetarian lunchtime?

There's a Josie's on 74th & Amsterdam - it's got a lot of veggie options, but can be a little on the crowded side.

Downtown Indian for tonight

I've been to Brick Lane, and a few others over on E. 6th, but does anyone have any place in particular they recommend? Looking for good, decently priced (not take-out cheap, but not ridiculously expensive) food - nothing too fancy, preferably w/a liquor license (beer & wine only is ok). Let's say anything below 14th St, unless you have an amazing find a little further uptown. Thanks for your comments!!

Need suggestions for LES/financial dis

Go to Jubilee on Gold and John St - fantastic grocery / prepared foods / everything you'll need. Pick up lunches, snacks, etc.

For dinners, check out Adrienne's on Stone Street, or Ulysses next door. Also, where you are staying, you can walk across City Hall Park to TriBeCa for many many more options.

Financial District Standout?

Go to Stone Street. Ulysses has a good bar, and decent dinner specials depending what night you are there. Adrienne's (right nextdoor) has the most amazing pizza (not a pizza joint though, it's a real restauruant) and a full bar. Order the square / old fashioned pizza to share - it's enough for 3 or 4 to split, especially if you get salads. Harry's Cafe (around the corner - Hanover Sq) is also good, more expensive, for steaks, etc. If you head over to the Seaport area, there are better places if you head north of the actual Seaport (is that Front Street? I think so). A great tapas place whose name now escapes me is about a block north of the Seaport. The Paris is okay, but it can be hit or miss. Carmine's Seafood is good too, and there's a couple more nice-looking options in that same area.

Kuma Inn Quick Review

I haven't been there in a while, but I've always enjoyed dinner there - definitely go back when they have the liquor license, because I remember some sort of sake tasting which was fantastic. Is it still cash / AmEx only?

Roth's Westside Steakhouse - Anyone been there recently?

I went here a few times about 4 or 5 years ago, and enjoyed the steak and the live jazz. Has anyone been there recently to confirm that it's still a good spot for steaks / martinis / jazz?
Thanks!

thanks for the heads up! Maybe we can do a birthday dinner then in that case...I'll check it out.

Peter Lugers - Anything vegetarian?

Yes, it is a little pointless to go to Lugers for non-steak, but my boyfriend wants to head there for his birthday, and I eat fish, but not red meat or poultry. Anyone tried anything there I can eat?

Thanks!

Isabella's is right across the street - I haven't been there, but there are many who swear by its old school Italian food.

Open bottle of wine - how to store?

Hello - Often I will open a bottle of either red or white, and not finish it for a few days or a week or so. How should I store it to keep it fresh? I've had too many bottles of vinegar that I've tried to drink after having them open for a week. I have a bottle stopper that I usually use which I think is airtight - any other suggestions? Thanks!
