Looking for Awesome BBQ for my Wedding

Hi there,
We're renting a house for our wedding in Norfolk, CT and are hoping to have a big bbq bash for our friends and family. Can any fellow chowhounders recommend some BBQ joints in CT or MA that cater? So far I've come across Bub's BBQ, Cookhouse Restaurant and Blue Ribbon BBQ. Does anyone have any thoughts on these?
All ideas much appreciated!
Thanks!

FIsh Head and Bones for Stock

I'm trying to make my own fish stock for bouillabaisse. Does anyone know a fish market that sells fish heads and bones? I've called Fairway and they can't help me.
Thanks!

Knives Sharpened in Brooklyn?

i've heard The Brooklyn Kitchen (www.thebrooklynkitchen.com) does a great job and they don't use a machine, which is important to me. In fact, I'm planning on bringing my knives there next week.

Surplus of Buttermilk

thanks so much for all these responses! do you guys think adding buttermilk instead of milk to a bolognese sauce would be detrimental?

Surplus of Buttermilk

thanks for all the great suggestions so far. i was just perusing 101 cookbooks and saw that Heidi makes her fresh ricotta with buttermilk. Been meaning to try my hand at that for awhile now... but for next time, i too would like the recipe for the sweet potato buttermilk casserole!

Surplus of Buttermilk

I have a quart of leftover buttermilk in my fridge that I'd hate to let go to waste. I'm trying to be healthy this month, so fried chicken doesn't look like it's in the cards. What are people's favorite ways to use it? All sweet and savory suggestions greatly appreciated!

The Meat Hook--Williamsburg

I am a frequent patron of The Meat Hook and feel that it is very well priced for its quality. Like any great shop, their meat prices run the gamut from every day use to special occasion. I am one of those people that paid over a $100 for their standing rib roast over New Years. But that was a special occasion and the meat was unbelievably flavorful. However, The Meat Hook is also a great butcher shop for every day use. My boyfriend and I bought two huge pork shanks for osso buco the other night, and that rung up to about $10. I've also bought dry aged NY strips that go for $18/pound, where as Fairway's is usually about $28. My last little plug is that the guys behind the counter are so passionate about what they do, and that translates. They'll tell you everything about where the meat came from and help you figure out the best way to cook it.
They also have housemade stocks, fresh vegetables from the farmers market, bread from Roberta's...
I know, I know, I sound like a commercial but I really think this place is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood!

I want to make Brisket, but I don't have the time... Alternatives?

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am without a slow cooker and have plans every night of the week until Friday. So I've decided a good compromise is to make Ina Garten's Beef Bourguignon. It only takes about an hour and a half in the oven. So we can munch on latkes and smoked salmon while we wait for the stew. Happy Holidays!

I want to make Brisket, but I don't have the time... Alternatives?

I'm making a hanukkah feast on Friday night with latkes, kugel, etc. I always like to include brisket in my celebration but this year I just do not have the time. Does anyone have any suggestions for a beef dish that is quick but might have some of the tenderness and flavor of a brisket?
Thanks!

Birthday Meal for Excited Brooklynites

For my boyfriend's birthday, we'll be visiting our best friends in Pac Heights. I'd like to pick a place for dinner that's around $50-60 pp and that offers a unique San Francisco experience. Perhaps focused on west coast produce? I'm up for any suggestions. Anywhere in the city is fine, but somewhere close to where we're staying is even better.
Thanks!

Road trip from Brooklyn to Camden

I'll be driving up from Brooklyn to Camden, Maine in the course of one day. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a must have lobster roll or lobster dinner. I would appreciate it if it weren't too far off the beaten path, but I'm willing to go a little distance to taste the best!!

Grad Dinner in Brooklyn

Thanks for the question. I realized "outrageously priced" is not the correct way to describe what I'm looking for. I am seeking affordable: $25/pp. I've eaten at both Aurora and Baci and like them both. Baci could be a good fit, Aurora may be too expensive.
Thanks! I really like Applewood too, but I think that might be out of my price range.

Grad Dinner in Brooklyn

I am in charge of finding an early dinner spot to celebrate my sister's graduation next Thursday. We want to do something in brooklyn, I live in Williamsburg and she lives in Park Slope. My mom will be treating about 8 of us, so I'd like somewhere that feels special, but isn't outrageously priced. I was thinking Motorino could work, but I'd like something a little more high end.
All suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My boyfriend and I are introducing our moms... help!

Thanks for the recommendations. I have a reservation at Schoolhouse for brunch on Sunday and am really looking forward to it. Also really excited to learn about the restaurant in general, it sounds like they're doing a lot of interesting stuff with local farmers and the community.

My boyfriend and I are introducing our moms... help!

Hi all,
I'm hoping you can help me make this afternoon as pleasant as possible, can you tell I'm nervous? My boyfriend and I are taking our moms out to lunch and to the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, Ct for their first meeting. I'm a little clueless when it comes to restaurants out there. I'm looking for something nice, but still pretty casual and well-priced. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Grand Central Market

I thought I'd shop for groceries for my dinner tonight at Grand Central Market since I'll be in the area. Does anyone have any favorites/suggestions of what should not be missed/avoided? I eat everything, but am thinking of going for fish/seafood.
Thanks!

Cleveland Eats

Hi,
I'm a New Yorker, but I'll be in Cleveland next week for a food show, and I'd love to know some of the can't miss restaurants. My boss will be paying for the meals, so price isn't an issue, but I'm more of the relaxed type of dining kind of gal. Also, I'd love if anyone can give me recent dish on Lola. I've heard so much about it, and lately some of it has been mixed reviews.
Thanks so much!

In Search of Grape Leaves recipes

I made this recipe from epicurious last summer. It was a complete hit! It's time consuming, but if you make the filling the day before it's not so bad.

Anyone Been to Bodeguita Cubana?

I embarrassingly (i live on the block) ordered delivery the other day and was really disappointed. I had the palmito salad which was completely flavorless except for the dressing that tasted like burnt garlic. I also had the cuban sandwich which, while not gross, was nothing i would ever want to eat again. It is too bad because the place is so cute and i really wanted to like it.

birthday dinner recs

I am taking a close friend out for her birthday thursday night. I'm looking to spend around$100 for the two of us, including a bottle of wine, OK maybe a little bit more. I am considering all types of cuisine. My perfect place would be laid back but but still have a festive atmosphere. Somewhere below 14th street would be great too.
Here are some of my ideas: Tree, Frankie's Spuntino, August, Pearl Oyster (do you think we could have lobster rolls and fall within the price range?), Kampuchea, and Dieci (it's on my block).
What do you guys think? I welcome all comments and other ideas.
Thanks!

Soft shell crab sandwich?

Thanks everyone for the info. I just called up Wild Edibles in Murray Hill, and he said they aren't making sandwiches. They only have cornmeal crusted crabs served entree style. I guess it's back to the drawing board.

Soft shell crab sandwich?

I'm having a craving. Pan-fried crabs, great roll, mayonnaise-type dressing, lettuce tomato. Anyone know where I can find one? Come to think of it, with all my requirements maybe I should just make it myself!

Mystic & nearby for meals that you still think

I think the lunch place you are talking about is Water St. Cafe. I love both Noah's and the Cafe; Boom is another wonderful place in Stonington. Another one of my favorite spots is the Daniel Packer Inn in Mystic. The upstairs is more formal, my favorite is the pub downstairs with excellent food, a working fireplace, and fantastic ambiance. For take our sandwiches and excellent baked goods, try Mystic Market. There are two locations in the downtown.
