Fresh Market - Scarsdale
Bingo. Had been enjoying the chicken salad but picked some up this weekend that had turned. That's my last visit.
Peter Luger Drink $$$'s
Second all this information (except that I slather steak sauce and blue cheese dressing over the tomato and onion and wouldn't miss that-have to keep my cardiologist in business). A good pour glass of wine is a pricey $12 I believe.
Zabar's Babka - memory failing or major downhill alert?
Each one can be different. Don't pick out a large one-puffy and dry. Search through the carton. Smaller and more dense (my kids call it "muddy") is the way to go.
Best Brownie in NYC
Partial the the cocoa dusted one at Balthazar (yeah, not classic style etc.Go call a lawyer-it's tasty anyway).
Stuffed Shrimp?
Well, this is far from the title of this, "stuffed shrimp", but we are back to the price vs. expectations calculus. Mcdonalds is jammed because it's affordable. El Quijote is jammed because where else can you get twin lobsters, competently cooked, for 30 bucks? Nobody goes there expecting Lutece or French Laundry. In an expensive city it's good bang for the buck.
Stuffed Shrimp?
El Quijote awful? That's over the top, even allowing for differing tastes. People have been jamming the place for some 40 years, and I and others have been returning numerous times. Not gourmet, but a fun joint, most dishes competently executed, best lobster and sangria buy in the city. Paella is weak.
name 5 overrated, or over hyped or famous restaurants whose food doesn't live up to reputation
Motorino
Hudson Valley Restaurant Weeks 2012
I will keep your very important spelling corrections in mind. (Sheesh).
Hudson Valley Restaurant Weeks 2012
Just came back from a very nice RW experience and menu at Kelley's Bar X in Congers. Would happily repeat-my best RW meal so far.
Scarsdale NY Chinese recommendation- Jade Spoon
Everything is fresh. I like the shrimp and walnut dish. Most items range from fair to good. But watch out if you don't like ginger in your brown sauce.
TOP 5 DISHES To EAT in NEW YORK
Another life long NYer who votes for Langer's, but Katz's has a right to its rep.
Peter Luger=nothing but hype
You say the steak can be replicated elsewhere, which is true on a "good" night most anywhere, but having been to many of the others numerous times I find Lugers to be a more consistent performer. That really matters when you are gambling your $100 per person and building expectations for a special night. (But I agree about the sides-not life altering, just good).
Lost My Bialy Virginity
Right-as above, bialys like English Muffins are meant to be eaten toasted.
Looking for Regal Crown Sour Cherry Candy
I pop into this topic when it shows to see if anyone had any luck. I would definitely mail order this stuff if it was still made. Cherry crack, worth every cavity.
what should I get at Zabar's for breakfast?
People resent Zabar's because it's big, but their nova, belly and baked salmon are superior. Try the loose rugelach -best in the city. But yeah, the bagels are not the best around, though H and H weren't so great anymore either.
RUGALACH
Those loose Zabar's rugelach are my favorite. Strange, they come loose out of a big bin, and you're almost afraid to by them that way-but they are always fresh and tasty.
Where are the best jelly donuts?
Tried the new Flex donut place in the Grand Central concourse (lower level). Small for $2 but the cheese jelly donut wasn't bad, other varieties look interesting.

Ate at Italian restaurant this weekend and they only offered bottled water - sparkling or flat
Citation on serving water? I didn't track one down. This subject has come up in many online forums over the years from what I can tell and other than the one above for workers there's nothing cited. Resolve it and I can get you a free glass of water as a prize.
Fresh Market - Scarsdale
No problem parking just now on a weeknight. Weekend parking is a bear. Prices ranged from reasonable for the store brands, which seem to be pretty nice quality, to really high for certain brand name items. Will bee back.
Best Gyro's in Westchester?
From among these (haven't tried Mythos), all decent, I am partial to Elia. Well balanced sandwich.

After a bit of non-exhaustive legal research it seems not to be illegal in N.Y. It's still tacky and ultimately stupid. There are other ways to make money.

I've been both too. More in Nassau at more accessible price points, certainly, maybe more overall. Different approach here, and high expectations. I think Westchester is more Manhattan-centric.
cold sesame noodles
The link is dead. Either it expired or he put it there knowing it was dead, just to torture us with sesame noodle cravings. Oh, cruel fate (apologies to Dr. Smith).

Agreed there is more food snobbery in Westchester, which leads to our negativity about the local choices. The "proof" is the preponderance of Westchester posts here over those from Nassau/Suffolk, even though the latter counties have higher population count and density. Westchesterites, perhaps because they are more likely from or working in Manhattan, have high expectations and find them to be unfulfilled.

Maybe credit cards don't offer an analogy-those fees come right out of the merchant's pocket. As long as its an announced policy not to accept them, they aren't being discourteous. Of course, the practice may chase customers away, but that's their call. The water thing, on the other hand, strikes me as discourteous, especially if it's not clearly announced.

They're talking about the now defunct Putnam division, the 4th line of the NY Central.
Delivery options in Tuckahoe/Crestwood/NE Yonkers?
Sushi was still on the "meh" side but the various Cantonese items were a tick better than when they opened. And they were busier too, which is good because I get freaked out by empty restaurants and worry about how long the food has been around if there's no turnover. I'm not saying it's a destination, just that I'll be less eager to avoid the place.

I hated David King in Eastchester when I first tried it months ago, but desperate for a place without a wait I tried it again last week and it was somewhat improved.

Only "authentic Italian" anywhere close is Spadaro in New Rochelle, though it's in a weird little spot and the price only comes down to "reasonable" if you use a coupon from restaurant.com. Everything else nearby is mostly over-priced (for what it is) "Italian American", but hey, that done in a fun, unpretentious atmosphere at reasonable prices (think Francesco's in White Plains, Carlos in Yonkers) is a great category.

My thinking was not that we should feel the same about the issue because we both post here, but rather because users of this website exhibit a higher than average concern for keeping quality up, including the quality of people's experience. If restaurant patrons start feeling like they are being clipped because something like this becomes a trend, it brings the industry down. If you want to confront a separate charge for water, a bread basket etc. because restaurants starts nickel and diming us instead of just reflecting the meal price in the entree where we can see and compare it to others, that's your business. I don't happen to think most people would agree that would be a good trend for restaurants in general.
