Any recent word on Meritage in Scarsdale?
As 7:30 reservations posted this is one of Westchester's best kept secrets. My feeling is why pay double at "42" or X2O when you can get the same if not better quality at half the price. Me and my wife have always felt welcomed and appreciated when we go to Meritage and unlike "42" when I am working late I do not need a reservation to sit at the bar for a drink. Raider: The roasted peppers are amazing, have you tried there homemade hummus? I always take some home when I go!
Mykonos in Dobbs?
I went there about a year ago with my wife for lunch and I am sad to say it was a horrible experience. (Check the older thread on "Mykonos") It was a while ago and they were open about 6 months so it they could of been ironing out the kinks. I pass by it all the time when I head over to sushi Mike's and it never seems busy. I will try it again next week to see if things have changed.
Excellent New Greek Restaurant In Westchester
Hopefully things won't "die down" and as long as they keep up the quality I will keep going back. By the way thanks I.E.A.L.O.I i am ordering take-out from them tonight, on your mention!
Excellent New Greek Restaurant In Westchester
The place is most likely the best Greek Restaurant in Westchester right now and I had a great meal there but they received a "Very Good" from the NY Times not an "Excellent" like you posted. It's nice to hear that they have long waits, they deserve it.
Catering near Scarsdale
Meritage in Scarsdale. They just catered my parents 50th anniversary at my home for 60 people and it could not have been better. The food, service and overall presentation was very impressive. The young lady "Jamie" who I dealt with was very accommodating and professional. Here is the phone number and her e-mail address 914.472.8484 email: jamie@meritagerestaurant.net. I do not know there address but you can Google them like I did to get more information.
best barista/capuccino/cafe in lower westchester, PLEASE!
Have you tried "Slave to the grind" in Bronxville? I hear that it is one of the best independant coffee houses in Westchester.

Has anyone tried Sammy's Uptown in Bronxville?
I'm confused.....I drove by this past Monday to go to Sammy's and a sign on the door said open for lunch "ONLY" Tuesday thru Thursday, so how was the restaurant full at night? I assume the limited hours were part of a "soft opening"
Peniche in White Plains?
I went there for lunch and enjoyed it. The price point is decent but if you don't watch yourself it could get a little high. I had the cod fritters, batatas bravas, octopus, caziz salad and the bitoque steak. Everything was good and the standout was the octopus. My least favorite was the bitoque which wizzapizza above loved but I have had it in Newark and this version just didn't do it for me. The place is absolutely beautiful and I would love to see what it looks like in the evening. They must of spent allot of money renovating, maybe that's why they do not give any complimentary condiments and that they even charge for bread!
Schlessingers Steakhouse
I am going to Newburgh this weekend and my brother in-law wants to take my family to a placed called Schlessingers Steakhouse. So can anyone give me any advice or recommendations on this place. TIA
Kitchen Nightmares US - Oct. 17 episode
It was the Mayor of Yonkers, not Tuckahoe who dined there. Also I mentioned this in another post that the owner was previously a soap opera actor before he opened up the restaurant.....hence all the drama on the show!
Feelings on Da Ugo or Estoril in Rockville Centre?
What's your comment on Estoril???
Maroni Cuisine
I know that this is a largely Westchester board but has anyone tried the tasting menu at Maroni's in Northport, Long Island? I just watched an episode of Bobby flays "Throwdow with Bobby Flay" and the challenge was meatballs and Bobby got his but kicked! The menu on Friday and Saturday is strictly a tasting menu. So has anyone had it?

Red Hat Bistro now on the river
I read somewhere in the Journal News that the people of Zuppas in Yonkers are taking over the location of the old Red Hat and that they will be offering a rustic italian (pasta) menu, and it also said that they would be serving late until 1:00am

Old Stone Mill tonight on Kitchen Nightmares
I watched the show this evening and I still have not figured out if it helped or hurt the restaurant! Anyone have any comments about the show? It wa very interesting to watch but you have to also know that Dean was a former soap opera actor......makes you think a little doesn't it.
Weekend Brunch in Westchester?
No the brunch menu is ala carte a well as the drinks. I enjoy the ala carte way over the buffet style because I can dictate what I want to eat and at the same time control the pricing. Check out the web site posted below. Buffets to me are sometimes overwhelming and I usually feel worse after eating a bit too much because of the variety and that there is so much too choose from.
Weekend Brunch in Westchester?
I went to brunch on Sunday at The Sterling Inn in New Rochelle and it was the best I have EVER had. I would love to try out Xaviers or X2O's brunch just to compare because everyone say's they are the best for brunch. Sterling Inn's brunch was fabulous, amazing french toasts & eggs benedict! It was not that crowded though I think if more people even knew they had brunch and the quality it would be much busier. I came across it in Westchester magazine it was listed as one of the top places to go for brunch. I was very impressed. I wonder how there dinner is has anyone been lately?
Excellent New Greek Restaurant In Westchester
I went there last week and enjoyed my meal there. The location is not so great and from the window I saw three (yes three) meter maids hovering around in a small two block stretch. The owners should complain to the town. The food was very good I had a variety of dishes with my guests and the only complaint was the grilled calamari was bland. It was the large type tubes and it just did not taste that great. (Sorry I think that was the first negative comment on this post) The decor seems a little cold and spaced out it would be better if they added (yes added) more tables to give a cozy feeling. They put down a decent size complimentary hummus place and pita bread to start so my question is why would anyone want to order the hummus on the menu? Overall it is much better than Lefteris Gyro and I rather go here but when I was driving to and from Santorini I passed Lefteris twice within an hour and it was packed to the gills! I guess it's true what they say location, location, location!
Flirt Sushi in Irvington closed?
I had a meeting in Irvington and the person who scheduled the meeting suggested Flirt Sushi (I have never been before) and when I arrived she was standing outside because the doors were locked and everything was shut down. I called 1-866-WE-FLIRT that was posted on the door and the person who answered from the NJ location confirmed that they did close! Wow that was fast, didn't this place just open less than a year ago? I guess there will be no more flirting over in Irvington.
Piave anyone?
I ate there a few weeks ago and honestly have to say it was one of the best meals I have had in a while. I am a big Mark Fillippo fan (the old Chef of cafe Meze) and I actual went there to base it by cafe Meze standards and was pleasantly surprised. The decor is more intimate and modern and the food more varied. I am actually looking forward to my next visit, which I can’t say for to many other places. We were a party of six and the mood of the table was very festive due in part to the good food, decor and lighting. It was to me a complete package. The owner / manager Paul was very courteous and accommodating, the only problem I had was my wife kept saying how handsome he is, oh well it still was a perfect night!...... ;)
X2O...dashed expectations!
I had a worse experience at X2O on July 3rd but I gave them the benefit of being new and so I did not want to post a comment. I figured I give them a while to work things out and give it another try, but based on frank113 comments I will give it a few more months before I return. My biggest complaint is that they knew very well about the half dozen or more major mistakes at my table (like my guest waiting 20 minutes for his entree when we already had ours) and did not acknowledge or offer to remedy anything. I really hope for there sake they work out the kinks!
Ultimate Westchester Restaurants 2006
The establishment formerly known as Cafe Meze is now "Piave" completely different owners and chef. Chef Mark Fillipo of the old Cafe Meze is now at Morgan's Fish House in Rye. The decor is slightly different as well as the menu the only similarity to Cafe Meze is that most of the staff is the same as Cafe Meze (Servers, bartenders & managers) I hear very good things about Piave but have not yet gone, I am looking forward to going soon!
Lia's Hartsdale for Lunch- or alternative?
Harry's has always been about "hype" more than the quality of food, and that does not last long in the restaurant business. The food is mediocre at best. The regular crowds that go there are a bunch of Scarsdale wannabe's. There are much better restaurants on East hartsdale avenue without having to deal with that atmosphere.
Belle Havana in Yonkers (Ex Chartreuse)
I am also a big fan of the new "Belle Havana" and it's nice to know that they are open late bbut I would call ahead if you do go late because on quiet evenings they close early. The scary thing is that they received an "Excellent" from the NY Times as Chartreuse and they did not fare so well. I hope with all the exposure and with X2O nearby they will have a better chance because it is truly a great restaurant. Love that ceviche!
Oporto in Hartsdale...update?
K-Fungs to me was always a decent chinese food experience. When the choices of Chinese food are usually either a store front (no tables) take-out counter or an oversized buffet with tacky decor. K-Fungs was the perfect balance for an inepensive meal with nice tablecloths to boot! I heard that the owner who is an attorney in Manhattan and after the flood did not want to be troubled with the expense of reopening it (close to $450,000.) was tying to sell the business to her manager and chef but that deal has been slowing dying. This is all told by the staff at Harry's which is a couple of stores down.
It will reopen as chinese restaurant eventually (because K-Fungs did so well) it just remains to see if it will still be K-Fungs
Oporto in Hartsdale...update?
One of my favorites. I two had a similar unpleasant experience when they first opened and avoided it for a while until Jeff the manager from Harry's of Hartsdale told me that new owners took over a few months after they opened and they changed the name to "O porto". I feel that it is one of the best values in Westchester when you combine the food, decor and service. If your expecting a Blue Hill or Xaviers I would not recommend this place. If your expecting a very decent meal at reasonable price point (which is hard to find in Westchester) I highly recommend it. I agree with lucyis above regarding the desserts, that it needs to be jazzed up a little more. I have told the manager about this and he said that they plan on revamping the entire dessert menu. One of my favorite dishes is the steak with egg on top over a bed a fries is superb. One final comment the sangria is a must probably the best i have tasted, go there late just for the sangria and sit outside that's what I always do.
P.S. - Hartsdale is fast becoming a nice restaurant destination with Azuma, Lias, Harrys, Oprto, Piave, Cassanos and hopefully to return K-Fungs.
That Japanese Place on Central Avenue?
The name is "Fujinoya" I haven't been but a few of my friends have and they all said good things about it. A few have said that it is very "authentic" which would lead me to believe it's the real deal.
X2O,yonkers
I have a friend who called for reservation and they said that they were "fully commited" for the evening but he decided to go anyway to check the place out and was eventually seated right away. So I would take a chance and go if you can't seem to get a reservation. I by the way do have a reservation ( June 30th Saturday) and will be reporting back as soon as I can.
Mr. Chan's Rte. 119 WP/Greenburgh - R.I.P.
I hear that the Westchester Wine Warehouse that was adjacent to mr. Chans will be taking over the place to expand their store. I hear it is going to have a full kitchen for events and wine tasting. I also hear ( I hear alot ) that they will be having guest Chefs appearing from time to time.
