Best Mexican in downtown Novato

There are quite a few little taquerias and Mexican restaurants on grant in downtown Novato...any advice on which to try? Thx!

north bay food recs: marin sonom and napa counties

Nice! I had some of the best pasta of my life there with pork cheek ragu - insanely delicious.

yup - that's it. also just saw on their facebook page that they now have duck tacos. supposedly they are starting to serve dinner on fridays soon and plan to have some outdoor seating for the summer...

good questions. a few places i like: shoreline coffee shop (great cochinita pibil), el molino central, tony tutto pizza, marshall general store, el huarache loco, taco bar at mi puebla food market. that's a lot of mexican but i like all cuisines. also like the fremont diner very much.

thanks!

after living in marin for almost two years i am still struggling to find favorite restaurants, markets, etc etc. i have a few favorites here and there but feel like i must be missing out on some things as well...would love to know people's off the beaten path favorites in marin, sonoma and napa counties (ie not things like fancy wine country restaurants - not that there is anything wrong with those).

thanks!

one night in phoenix - looking for off the beaten path yumminess

Thanks to everyone for their advice - I ended up only having one dinner and one breakfast free - and ate both meals at Gallo Blanco which was as folks had promised, delicious. The chilequiles were amazing and I had an assortment of tacos for dinner - pork, beef and shrimp, all of which were also delicious. Loved the atmosphere, the drinks (the bartender made me a tasty virgin prickly pear margarita), all good.

Will look forward to checking out other recommendations next time I am in town.

one night in phoenix - looking for off the beaten path yumminess

Dear Phoenix folk - I am going to be in town for business with one night free to dine on the town. Would love recommendations for some suggestions I won't find easily myself. I am a pretty adventurous eater so am willing to try a wide variety of foods. I have a soft spot for hole in the wall taquerias/taco trucks in particular.

Many thanks!

food that's better in in dc than other places?

Coming to DC area for weekend and would like to try a local specialty/cuisine that's particularly great in this neck of the woods. Have car, will travel, open to all kinds of foods. Your advice much appreciated!

Charlie Hong Kong in Mill Valley

Ate here last week with high hopes and was hugely disappointed. small portions, rotten lettuce in our salad - literally black and goopy, they forgot half the ingredients in one of our dishes and the spring rolls also smelled distinctly "off". the menu does't feature many, if any, things that are actually street food so if that's what you're interested in this is likely not the best spot.

as for the mention that this restaurant is similar to Spice Kit I totally disagree - Spice Kit is delicious with huge banh mi and great quality ingredients. none of those things are true of Charlie Hong Kong.

New Year's & Anniversary dinner in Sausalito?

I would also throw into the mix Sushi Ran (great sushi and also walkable from your hotel) and the restaurant at Cavallo Point (which also has a great, cozy bar with a fireplace next door).

Food You Can Only Get In NYC?

I am going to be in new york for only two days (sat/sun) for work and want to focus on foods that I can only get in NYC or that are best in New York. I am from San Francisco so have access to a lot of great Asian, Mexican and Central American restaurants so am looking for something a little different while in the Big Apple. Many thanks!

Great place in Cartagena, Colombia?

El Santisimo is lovely - it moved fairly recently to a new location with rooftop dining - that would be the way to go as the inside space is nice but nothing spectacular.

Also recommend both cocina de socorro (fancier and has best seafood rice i had in all of colombia) and casa de socorro (more casual also good but not as good as the frou frou cocina de socorro. this nytimes article discusses both:

http://travel.nytimes.com/2008/05/25/travel/25hours.html

for a nice, cheap dinner without many other travelers, grab a pizza at pizza en el parque - you order at the walk up counter and then eat in the park with a stool as your table - very fun and lots of locals (at least i think they were local folks). its on the tiny parque fernandez madrid.

most excellent bakery (gold coated dulce de leche brownies) - La Milla. very fancy but worth it for an amazing sugar fix.

Colombia

Was just in Cartagena two weeks ago. Great food. Pizza En El Parque for fun, casual outdoor pizza served in a low key neighborhood park - try the pear and bacon version. El Santisimo just moved into a new location with rooftop dining right near the Sofitel hotel - lovely, high end dinner with tamarind prawns, salmon ceviche that was similar to gravlax, and a sophisticated take on traditional caribbean fish stew. El Cocina de Socorro - pardon my spelling - best arroz con mariscos of the trip (I had a lot) and excellent grilled fish with fine herbes and arroz con coco. La Casa de Socorro - more casual than El Cocina - also great. incredible calamari and grilled lobster al diablo. curious capirinhas made with aguardiente. La Cevicheria- worth it for just their ceviche con coco y limon alone. Excellent, fresh fish. Drinks after at the fancy schmancy bar at the Sofitel hotel. Dulce de leche and coconut treats for dessert at the Portal de los Dulces.

Cheap Eats/Dives/Landmarks/etc. to see over 1wk

I would also like to add Yamo burmese in the Mission. The link below to the chronicle's cheap eats section has other good tips as well.

Saturday SF Ferry Farmer's Market - What not to miss?

It is indeed called Primavera and the chilaquiles rock. I have waited in line almost an hour for them and its worth it (especialy if you have a donut muffin from the downtown baker and creamery to tide you over). Get there early as they sell out of items fast and get a yummy agua fresca also (the ones with cucumber are particularly refreshing).

Sentinel - First look

Stopped by the Sentinel yesterday morning for a sugary breakfast - the sour cherry muffin was one of the best things I have eaten in a while. Very dense without being dry at all and a lovely slightly crunchy top. Yum. Much better than their coffeecake IMHO.

$24.00 tiny Chicken breast from Pizzaiolo

Or Blue Jay Cafe/Farmer Brown and Front Porch. The latter is served in a big ol' bucket and is citrusy and wonderful. BlueJay/FV more traditional but great.

Best Dim Sum in Chinatown

Hi - I want to take some out of friends for dim sum this sunday and they really want to see Chinatown, so I'd like to find somewhere in that neighborhood.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Need Jacques Imo's Advice

I would definitely go - 45 min to 1 hour probably for the wait, maybe less since its not high season right now. Order the savory cheesecake appetizer if they have it. And save room (somehow) for dessert.
