CHOW's Intense Brownies

Jackie2830....In the list of ingredients, it says that the butter should be at room temperature (I realize that the butter should be cooled after melting but I didn't understand why the butter had to be at room temperature before melting)

*Anti-Foodie thread warning* For COSTCO shoppers....

I haven't tried this but I heard that if you ask someone with a Costco membership to buy you a Costco gift card, then you'd be able to buy groceries (even without a membership card)

CHOW's Intense Brownies

Out of curiosity, why does the butter need to be at room temperature if you are going to melt it?

Chickpea Flour

Thanks! I'm not looking for "besan" but the other, Mediterranean, variety. I live on the South Shore and I've looked at Tau but they didn't have what I was looking for (off day maybe?). I'm willing to travel to find it :)

Local source for tarbais beans?

Ok, scrap what I just said. I checked today and they didn't have any tarbais beans left. Who knew they were so popular?

Local source for tarbais beans?

If you are willing to travel to the South Shore, sometimes the stores at Marche Village (on Taschereau, in Brossard) have them. I've seen them at Marche Vittoria (the fruit store at Marche Village): they are usually near the squash. Or else at the "en vrac" store. Not quite sure about the quality though.

Fish on the South Shore

I'm hoping that someone will be able to help. I'm looking for a place that sells fresh fish on the South Shore (Brossard, St-Lambert, Greenfield Park, Longueuil, St-Hubert) and, if possible, at decent prices (if that's even possible!). For the moment, we're going to Coralli (which we love) but we hate having to cross the Champlain Bridge.

Thanks!

Salt and Cream

Thanks so much! I'll definitely be going to JTM for the cream (I wasn't sure that such a thing existed in Montreal although I've heard that it is readily available in the States) and to Costco for the salt.

Salt and Cream

I am searching for reasonably-priced sel de guérande and fleur de sel. Also, I am looking for heavy cream without all the additives/stabilizers/thickeners. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Brunoise or La Montee de Lait

We went last night to MDL and enjoyed it immensely. We had the 7 course tasting menu which featured crab with creme fraîche in a melon "soup" (cold), pan-fried scallops a la niçoise, blue-fin tuna with green onion yogurt, foie gras with chanterelle mushrooms, molasses piglet, chèvre chaud on a eggplant pancake with onion confit and finally, for dessert, the chocolate mousse with a creme brulée foam and sponge toffee. I found that the chocolate mousse was just a little too much after such an elaborate meal (although my husband didn't think so and managed to finish both his portion and mine) but other than that, I really enjoyed my dining experience. Thank you so much for your advice. It was much appreciated!

Brunoise or La Montee de Lait

Hi,

Brunoise or La Montee de Lait? My husband and I are trying to decide on which restaurant to go to. We have previously enjoyed going to Toque, La Chronique, APDC and L'Epicier. It is not necessary that the restaurant have an extensive wine list. We would prefer a quieter restaurant (i.e. not on the noise level of APDC). Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Brunoise Tasting Menu

Hi!

I would like to know whether anyone has tried the tasting menu at Brunoise. My husband and I have tried the tasting menus at Toque and at La Chronique and have enjoyed them very much. Wine pairing isn't important to us.

Thanks!
