rochfood's Profile

I beleive I have failed as a chowhound parent, and now I must suffer.

Hmm..I like Red Lobster (steamed whole lobster from the tank, caeser salad, chedder bay biscuits) and americanized Chinese food. I'd go in your place..".you buy..and I'll fly".
My 5 year old's favorite food is "Chinese noodles" ( lo mein) and I don't bat an eye at it. I just don't get it for him whenever he asks. We'll see when he turns 10.

Food Network Star, Episode 3 - Chopped Lite (SPOILER)

Justin..you mean Marcel ?

Food Network Star, Week 2 (SPOILER)

OP..cmvan..you left out the best part.
The woman who got cut and bitched about the soul food chicken and waffles...
( PS I don't get chicken and waffles..but I get fried chicken..and I get waffles. So.."getting" chicken and waffles should not be such a foreign concept and tough to "replicate" The fried chicken sits next to the waffles..not like they are magically incorporated somehow.)

Anyway..the best part was that she said "she doesn't eat chicken off the bone" hahaha.
This is a culinary person to be taken seriously ? What are you..some sort of icky food phobic type of child ? Any cook/chef worth their salt should not be squeamish about chicken on the bone. She should have booted right then and there.

Food Network Star, Week 2 (SPOILER)

I don't think he disliked pickles (he actually said he likes them). He said he was not "inspired" by them or something to that effect.

Food Network Star, Week 2 (SPOILER)

Didn't you post this on the other page ?

Fourteen ounces is the new pound

I assume using the "7/8th" of the product is an attempt at humour. The less meat doesn't upset the balance of the jambalaya ..it's just an observation/ proof that smoked sausage until recently used to be packed in 16 oz sizes. Many recipes call for 1 lb of some type of meat. It is a relatively uniform standard of measure. Most items are priced X amount per pound.
I assume you know all this but you seem to be missing an obvious point..intentionaly, I'm guessing.
Cereal is a bad example off standard packing size increasing. There is no standard cereal box size. They vary brand by brand and little box to big box size.
Also, packaged items are no longer a novelty and have been around for quite some time..and these items are are what are being "observed"...not from the shopkeep at the general store. Yes..we are talking about corporate packaged goods..and these companies do nothing "on the whim"..all these decisions about package size have been deliberated in boardrooms..that's what companies do. So..I would not use an example of your local general store guy..to corporate policy.where consistancy is the point. So, yes customers do notice..because they are deliberate decsions..not whims.

Food Network Star

Just wondering about her show, if it was still on. Didn't feel like googling it..and figured some one with a big opinion would chime in.

Leftover Lobster

I'd steal it for myself and make a lobster roll.

Fourteen ounces is the new pound

Yup..Hillshire farm (and others it seems) now offers their Polska Kielbasa in 14 oz packages and their turkey ones are 13 or 12 oz I believe. They used to be be sold as 1 lb rings. (and the turkey was 14 oz). Same prices however. At what point will be too small ? They will have to increase price at some point ? Or else the product will look semi ridiculous and they won't be "fooling" anyone. Zatarains jambalya mix calls for 1 lb of smoked sausage. I guess we should be eating less meat anyway ?

What about "Aarti Party ? " ?

Best Chain Breakfast?

Is Sambo's still around ?

Around the World in 80 Plates [Split from Top Chef thread]

I will pull the rug from out from under you !

Wendy's chili cheese fries

The chili seems a bit thin to pour over also thin fries. Does the liquid just flow to the bottom between the fries ?
I like their chili..just doesn't seem to be the right consistancy to pour over fries..which should be thicker.

ALDI Stores: Quality Products at Deep Discount??

And ironically...meats are usually the one thing at ALDI that are not a good deal. Their meat prices seem not as competitive as most of their other things.

dad need recipes

Mmm...croak pot.

"Poor Man's" $1 Big Mac -- save $$$ at Mickey D's

Remember.in France..it's LeBigMac

Buffalo Wild Wings???

They used to have drumstick nights when you could get drumsticks (not wing drums) at deal with any of their sauces. I thought that was unique..because you usually just hear about wings. They were tasty as well.

Best Chain Breakfast?

McD's 1 sausage McMuffin w egg and a 1$ sausage burrito w hot sauce.
Large coffee for 1 $ as well.

Sit down..Friendly's " Big Two do" 2 slices sourdough toast..2 scrambled eggs and 2 sauasage links...Friendlys is the only diner in my area (chain or local) to give you sausage links in casings.

Guess what my DH put on his McDonald's hash browns this morning

Was that last one MILF ?

those Park Slope parents wanting to ban the Good Humor type ice cream truck

The ice cream truck coming through my neighborhood was one of the best memories of childhood. I don't live in a neighborhood now (busy road) and the ice cream truck is something I do miss. Do they even hit up neighborhoods anymore ringing their bell ? That sound made being a kid fun. I wish my 5 year old could experience that..but will not. We seem to want to take the fun out of anything.
I also like it when they sit (or used to sit) at the end of the road to the beach entrance down the jersey shore. So you could run through the hot sand and get some cold treat.

Guess what my DH put on his McDonald's hash browns this morning

A cadbury egg is not an egg. an Egg McMuffin egg is a real egg..just not a fried egg. It's not alittle yellow pillow like most FF rest..you can tell there is an a regular yolk and white..

Guess what my DH put on his McDonald's hash browns this morning

Nice..what about on Le Big Mac..?

ground beef vs ground beef in tacos--fat drain?

Thats why I use my 80 % lean beef for burgers only. Some fat drains off but the burger still retains some which you need for a juicy burger. I don't use 80 % lean for tacos or other "skillet type" meals like sloppy joes..meat sauce..hamburger helper ( ha ha).
I save 90 % lean for those meals..you still drain the fat.but not as much..and it's doesn't ruin the taste of the whole dish to use lean meat..because it is crumbled.
I feel using 80 % lean for skillet type meals wastes their fat..if that makes sense.

Derby Day/Cinco de Mayo

Don't they make some kind of crazy (not in a bad way..) stew/soup in Kentucky ?
Obviously this may make one think of Tex Mex chili

lamb for Easter that isn't gamey and isn't chops.

I'm sure I am in the minority, but my tastes probably run more toward a "typicalAmerican" and enjoy ground lamb patties. I don't eat it very often, don't even see in stores very often. But, it is delicious pan seared in some butter and seasoned salt.
I don't know if it a "gateway" lamb, or not..or even if it matters.

what to do with fruit that refuses to soften/ripen?

My bananas were so hard I made mofungo with them.

what to do with fruit that refuses to soften/ripen?

I have bunch of bananas that have stayed green and rock hard for over a week. It will soon be equal to that McDonalds hamburger that suppposedly never decomposed.

Teh Dorito Taco!?

"On a side not, what are the chances a moderator can fix the title to this thread??? OCD"

Anyone else find this sentence ironic ?

Shamrock Shake 2012

Just give me the damn waxed paper cup already..what is this froo froo nonsense ?
What's with the clear plastic dome and cherry ? Is that an observation window ? To observe how much the "shake" looks like Irish Spring ? Oohh..so swirly.
Where's Uncle O' Grimacy when you need him ?

Where to eat in Niagara Falls/Buffalo area

The locals enjoy Mighty Taco. A better taco bell. And local to Buffalo.
