Impressive Dinner Near LAX?

Hi, so my future father-in-law will be in town this friday and he has assigned ME the job of finding a great resturaunt for the family to have dinner. I really want to do a great job, so of course, I came here first for your help.

Here are the caveats:
must be within 2-3 miles from LAX and there must be a little atmosphere.

Price and cuisine doesn't matter.

Memorable Las Vegas Dinner [moved from L.A. board]

My fabulous boyfriend and his best friends are going to Vegas to celebrate his birthday this weekend. He really wants to have dinner somewhere amazing. Can you help?

They are staying at Mandalay Bay, Guy Savoy is out, one of his friends said nothing looked good on the menu (I know, I know) and my boyfriend doesn't want to go to a steak house.

I almost never make food decisions without consulting with the chowhounders and have never been disappointed. I am excited to see what you have to say about Vegas. :)

Needle in a Haystack

Last year I ate in a great mexican place down town and I can't remember the name or address. I know that is like finding a needle in a haystack, but it was so good I was really hoping that someone might recognize the place.

Okay, so from the outside it kind of looks like a hole in the wall but it was actually kind of fancy, I remember the food was kind of expensive. It's down town and the area was definitely very industrial

I know that this is such a long shot and I will be shocked if someone knows what i am talking about based on my incredibly vague and non-helpful description :) but I have heard other people talk about it so I am keeping my fingers crossed!

ohmygosh! Thank you so much! I have also been hearing about some amazing Argentinian place? I know it's not near campus, but has anyone heard of it? I know it got "best sandwich" in one of the Los Angeles mags
