Christmas Eve sushi pick-up near SD's Campland on the bay?

Hello,

We'll be in San Diego over Christmas. We thought that it would be nice to get some sushis and come back at our RV for some nice sushi. We don't know "sushi world" at all, I could say.

We would like to try GOOD sushi because people often tell us that the reason why we're not head over heels about sushi is because we didn't have GOOD sushi yet.

So, could you recommend a good "sushi for beginners" close to Mission Bay or Pacific Beach were we could pick up sushi on the 24th?

Also, I guess it's impossible to just show up on that night and that we should call ahead. But then, what do we ask for? We are absolute beginners as you can see!
Some people rave about Sushi Ota and it's convenient (from what I see on the map) but I guess that people in the know would have many more suggestions.

Thank you,
Pascale

List of Shops in San Diego to buy cooking ingredients

People on Yelp seem to adore Trader's Joe for groceries. Is it ok or it doesn't deserve CHers interest? (we're not from the US so we don't know Trader's Joe yet)

List of Shops in San Diego to buy cooking ingredients

Hi,

I was about to post about grocery stores in SD. Maybe someone could point out in this list (and I don't mean to crash OP's post) which ones are:

a) convenient for visitors (ie close to dowtown SD)

b) where you could buy most of your New Year's dinner (I mean a place where besides the basics you can find for example smoked salmon, some decent wine, good bread etc)

Thanks

Slow food grocery stores in Tuscany?

Hi,

Last time we went in Italy we went to a few macellerie and salumieri recommended on the Slow Food site and loved what we bought there.

Now it's not possible anymore to have free access to those suggestions on their web site.

Since I don't intend to buy the whole Slow food book since I have bought so many guide books yet could you just throw in a few suggestions if you happen to be in the possession of that Slow food book?

We'll stay in Fasciano, ten minutes from Cortona. We'll visit the usual Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza, Lucignano, Siena, Chianti, San Gimignano etc.

Thanks for any help you could provide.

Taverna Le Coppelle in Rome: any outdoor seating?

Hi,

A few people here recommended Taverna Le coppelle for a low-cost, interesting option for our last dinner in Rome.

First question: is it open on Sundays?
Second: is there any outdoor seating? We're going in June and would prefer eating outside.

Thanks

Dinner in or near Piazza Navona, Roma?

Hi,

We'll spend our last evening in Rome and are looking for a suggestion very near Piazza Navona.
We went to Cul de Sac last time and it was good altough cramped and teribbly hot (not a chance in the world to get a spot outdoors...)

Any other suggestion? Price IS an issue so a main course with a one or 2 glasses of house wine shouldn't cost more than 25 euros. No need for desert and appetizers.
Thanks.

Restaurant La Noce, Québec

(English synopsis will follow)

I had dinner at La noce back in Feb and enjoyed it very much.
Red tuna tartare was excellent. Tilipia as a main course was good too.
Note the Spiegelau glassware which is unusual even in upscale restaurants.
Crème catalane was very good and the maitre D (the owner, I think) was very nice.
Total bill was reasonable. I would go back.
