Need a little chowhound help - am going down to Sanibel next month
Just got home yesterday after a long weekend and it's so pretty down there, can't wait to go back! Weather was perfect, but am very suprised how little beachfront bars and dining there is
Thanks to Chowhound we were able to have some pretty decent meals. I wasn't able to sell the picky eater in our group on Thistle Lodge- we had to go to Pinchers Crab shack as a compromise ( stone crab there was good but service not so much - had to wait almost an hour for our order and this was sitting at the bar) and vacation is about making compromises.... I can't dictate where we go all the time, right ?? (although I did try ...lol)
We did get to the Lazy Flamingo for lunch ( great fried grouper sandwiches) Island Cow for breakfast, Mucky Duck for drinks and view and the Timbers for an all crab dinner ( stone crab appetizer, crab cake appetizer and a cup of their crab bisque)
Am very glad I live up here.. Stone crab is an expensive addiction ( $15 for 2 claws) but it is so very good
Thanks again for all your help! ;-)

Salted Caramel in Jacksonville/Orlando (or in between)
Fran's makes an incredible salted caramel. They're based in Seattle, but if you call them, they will tell you who sells them in your area...
Need a little chowhound help - am going down to Sanibel next month
Hi Florida Girl!
Don't worry, I don't take offense easily.... chain restaurants have their place and are not all bad, but what's the point of traveling if you don't try something you can't get at home ?! Thank god for chowhound and all the great recommendations I've gotten here over the years
And we're a balmy 35 degrees up here in Boston.... not quite pool weather but almost... maybe if it goes up another 5 degrees or so ..... :-)
Need a little chowhound help - am going down to Sanibel next month
Can't wait! My mouth is watering just thinking about the stone crab claws.. Thanks for the tip on Ellington's -sounds like fun and I love listening to live jazz.
Need a little chowhound help - am going down to Sanibel next month
I'm just happy to go somewhere that doesn't have 5' of snow so Florida is looking pretty good right about now. Thanks for recommendations! Thistle Lodge looks gorgeous. Can't wait to try these places out!
EL Chinese real and excellent Chinese in Fort Myers...Dim Sum! Cuddle Fish!
Thanks for the tip! I'll be down that way in a couple of weeks and dim sum sounds good to me

Wow... didn't realize it was so bad down there that there would be no answers! Am crossing Fl off my list for future vacations..lol!
Need a little chowhound help - am going down to Sanibel next month
Am just headed down to get a little sun and some temperatures above 30 degrees and decent meals down there would be a bonus.
I did a search on the boards and there doesn't seem to be much new info... Everyone mentions Doc's, the Bubble Room, Sweet Melissa's (is it even there anymore?) and McT's but they all seem to be pretty bad for food.
Am going with at least one picky eater (no onions, plain grilled chicken, no sauce... ) and one adventerous eater - (escargot, good wines)
Am looking for some Fl shrimp and \ or stone crabs, any happy hours with good drinks, good burgers or just a nice place that uses local ingredients.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
Chino Farms
Was there last Saturday and got some sweet strawberries, baby carrots, and potatoes. Everything was delicious!
Who delivers Easter Baskets (Besides the Easter Bunny, of course)
Thanks for the help! I'll be sure to check out the website!
Who delivers Easter Baskets (Besides the Easter Bunny, of course)
Does anyone know of a place in the San Diego area that makes up and delivers Easter baskets? Am looking to get one for my 5yr old nephew in Escondido !
Did a quick check of Eclipse and Chuao but didn't see anything on their sites,
Haunted Restaurants?
In honor of Halloween, are there any new ones to add to the list ???
Where can I find garlic scapes ?
I just tried Whole Foods in Dedham today. None left!
Where can I find garlic scapes ?
Are there any local farm stands or farmer's markets on the South Shore that carry them ?
happy hour -- fleming's
If you're going to start a petition to reform liquor distribution laws here in MA I'd be happy to sign! I think it's crazy that I can't get a bottle of my favorite sauvignon blanc shipped from Napa to me in Boston !
Donut shops in San Diego
Love Petersons for donuts! That's one of my nephew's favorite places to go! He always picks out vanilla w. sprinkles for himself then when we get home, he eats my chocolate donut instead!
I've learned to buy an extra one and hide it from him otherwise he'd eat that one too!
San Diego Vacation (with kids)
The staff at Barbarella in la jolla was wonderfull w. my then 3 1/2 yr nephew... He was very cranky and we were on the verge of taking him outside when the hostess came over. She was very nice to him... gave him toys and a little stuffed animal to play with while he was there which got him quieted down enough for us to finish dinner.
Escondido Chow help.... ;-)
Thanks for the help eveyone! The 10 days out there went by way too fast (with a side trip to Vegas - but that's another post!)
I am glad I don't live out in San Diego only for the fact that I made my first visit to Ecliipse Chocolates..... and would be there everyday for the chocolate cupcake w. caramel and sea salt. which would then cause me to gain about 100lbs! We tried the S'more cupcake which was good but the Caramel chocolate one was over the top \ i've seen god good! Is is wrong to dream about a cupcake?
Vegas & Craftsteak ...... how much will it cost me??
I have to say our waiters were excellent! they listened to our likes and dislikes and tailored the tastng accordingly. I never felt rushed and we were half hour late for our reservation (I was down at the Wynn - winning at the roulette wheel and not watching the time! I did call cause I still had to go back to my hotel and change) They were very accomodating even though the place was packed!
Vegas & Craftsteak ...... how much will it cost me??
OMG, it was unbelievable!!!!!
We did the waygu tasting menu for 2 and it was worth every penny! Make sure you are hungry when you go.... Service was impeccable, room was packed - I thought there was a recession going on ????
The skirt steak w. bordelaise sauce, heirloom tomato salad and monkey bread were the absolute favorites
Can't wait to go back
Vegas & Craftsteak ...... how much will it cost me??
I can't wait..... am already drooling in anticipation! and am very relieved to hear it's relatively affordable especially after reading other Vegas posts where Chowhounders have spent thousands of dollars on one dinner!!
Vegas & Craftsteak ...... how much will it cost me??
Any tasting in particular? And oh yes, there will be drinking!
Vegas & Craftsteak ...... how much will it cost me??
Am heading out for a quick trip to Las Vegas next month. It's my brother's birthday and he's a huge "Top Chef" fan so Im taking him to Craftsteak (plus it's been getting great reviews on this board so I'm looking forward to it as well ).
With appetizers, dinner, a few sides and wine (will probably skip dessert) how much should I realistically budget for ? And are there any can't miss items that we should try
Thanks ;-)
Escondido Chow help.... ;-)
Who knew there were so many good places in Escondido???!!!! Thanks, everyone! Chowhounders to the rescue again! Luckily I'll be out there for 10 days so I'll have time to hit a lot of these places! Am looking forward to having some truly outstanding mexican food!

Thanks for the suggestions! I love Cali mexican (which I definitely can't get here in boston) and swap meets and can't wait to go .
Is there a good meat market in the area too? I'm sure one of the nights we'll end up throwing something on the gril especially if I get some great produce at the swap meet!i
