Tea room anyone?
It used to be that there were Tick Tock tearooms for little old ladies to meet and socialize at and enjoy various dainties. I have a friend that I'd like to take to such a place for an Easter Brunch if there's anything like that still around. Near Pasadena if possible, and neither too dressy nor too expensive, if at all possible. Do you have any thoughts or recommendations?
Where to find dry Sichuan chicken with peppers?
Red Chilli House in Rancho Cucamonga is far from where you want to go, but far and away the best Sicuan-style Chinese food I've ever had. Friends in from China agree, as does everyone else I've ever taken there. Everything's really good and the Red Chilli Chicken Cubes -- the specific dish you asked about -- is spectacular! Try it out. It's worth the drive.

Billy's Deli in Glendale -- fine catering
Even Langer's isn't Langer's. Despite all the hoopla, neither I nor any of my friends think Langer's is any big deal at all.
I'm going to try Billy's.
NOT being Langer's sounds like a pretty good recommendation -- especially if Billy's comes in at less than the truly outrageous $14 that Langer's charges for a (really good bread, but otherwise nothing special) sandwich.

I have a friend coming in from Korea who I will be taking to dinner this Friday night. He'll be staying in the Northridge/Granada Hills area and neither he nor I have any clue what's good around there. He particularly loves American BBQ and Mexican food, but anything terrific and modestly priced will be much appreciated. Any suggestions?
Where can I get Lamb Chops in the Inland Empire ?
They have a good selection of lamb at the Red Tomatoes Farmer's Market at 9950 W. Foothill Blvd in Rancho Cucamonga. They also have the cheapest good produce I've ever seen and a really terrific Middle Eastern restaurant with (definitely non-fancy) sit-down facilities. Seriously yummy felafel, schawarma, baba ghanouj, fresh made tandoori bread and all the trimmings.
Where can I find the world's best burrito?
Burrito King on the corner of Sunset Blvd & Alvarado in Hollywood. There was also (and may still be) one on Hyperion. Try the machaca or the chorizo, although all of their offerings are absolutely first rate. They're also BIG, but nothing like the absurd size of the Manuels' or Hollenbeck Specials at El Tepeyac. Don't forget to ask for the really good curtido, too.

A great duck resturant
Try the duck breast at La Vie on San Gabriel Blvd in Rosemead. It's a generous portion, not at all fatty, quite delicious, prepared in the French manner by a Vietnamese master chef, and comes as part of a complete prix fixe dinner at a very reasonable price. Also, if you're there, be sure to order and leave room for their truly delicious dessert souffle.

A Thai friend is coming to Southern California later this month and will be visiting the Thai Wat. Afterwards, he would like to see how good the best of our local (in or near North Hollywood) Thai restaurants is. Where should I take him?
Thai duck soup
I used to love the Thai duck soup at the old Siam restaurant on Hollywood. Is there anyplace that serves something like that now? If there's more than one, which is the best. An Orange County location would be preferred.

old school green goddess dressing - anywhere?
Foxy's coffee shop in Glendale has it and may even claim to be its originator. It's exceptionally good, fresh made, and available for sale to go. The rest of the food at Foxy's is also quite excellent. It's on Colorado, near the corner of Central.
Oinkster Burger
I and a friend went to Oinkster on Saturday after having read wildly favorable reviews of it, both here and on Yelp.
Those two sources seemed to recommend the Pastrami sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich as the best things on the menu, so those were what we ordered. Frankly, we found both to be smallish and disappointing. The pulled pork seemed to have been cooked without any seasonings at all -- just roasted, or maybe even boiled until it fell apart, but near totally flavorless, and the pastrami was idiosyncratic: obviously a non-standard "house" cure that really didn't taste much like pastrami at all. Please don't take from this comment that I have no tolerance for proprietary cures for pastrami. Chris' and Pitts' in Anaheim serves an absurdly large (over 1 1/2 pounds, by actual measurement, that's mild, savory, only slightly pastrami-like and absolutely wonderful for $8.95, including fries, soup or salad. We thought the fries and onion rings were okay at Oinkster, but if we are ever in the neighborhood again, instead of Oinkster, we'll go to Red Top burger, only two or three miles away, and get something truly memorable!

How are the panchan at Hae Jong Chon in K-town?
From what I've read, everything else seems at least okay, but the few comments there were on the side dishes were not encouraging in terms of either number or quality. What's the real scoop? While you're at it, any comments on the other menu items?
MOST OUTSTANDING BURRITOS IN LOS ANGELES AREA
Why has no one mentioned Burrito King. It used to be a chain centered around the Silver Lake district, and now may be just the one at Sunset and Alvarado, but their burritos -- especially my favorites, the Machaca and the Chorizo -- are the best I've yet had.

Fab's Hot Dogs - moving Spring 2010
I agree completely. Two of us, visiting separately, ordered five different items and found them to be far, far less than sufficient to justify the fifty mile drive to get them. All were perfectly okay, but, as allyoucaneat so nicely put it, "nothing to write home about." Truly much ado about nothing!
Best hot and sour soup in San Gabriel area?
Not in San Gabriel, but unquestionably the best Hot & Sour soup we've ever had. Seriously yummy. Get the Green Onion Pancakes to go with it..

West Coast Chicken n Noodles?
They serve really good "Chicken and egg noodles" at DuPar's at the Farmer's Market on 3rd street and Fairfax in Los Angeles. They also have the ultimate dessert to enjoy afterwards: Gooseberry pie!
Exotic Food Trucks
Other than the Kogi Truck, what are they? Where are they? what do they serve? are they any good? I'm particularly interested in fusion-type trucks, like Kogi, but would love to know about anything else that's special or good.

Corned beef hash??? ANyone??!
Went to TJ's to try the packaged Corned Beef Hash. Couldn't find any. Found ROAST beef hash, instead. Tried it and found it to be quite good. Were they just out of the Corned Beef version? Or is the Roast Beef Hash all they actually carry and the previous comments were in error?
Noodle House and its neighbors
Went to the new Noodle House in Rowland Heights for lunch on Thursday. The food was spectacular and the service was quick and friendly. We loved it so much (Thanks, Exilekiss and all the others who recommended it so highly) that we went back for dinner on Saturday night.
Arriving at 5:30, we were seated immediately, even though there seemed to already be people waiting (for takeout, maybe?). Once seated, tea and menus came quickly, but with a full house, and only three servers, even though there were seven or eight people cooking, the food took FOREVER to arrive.
We weren't the only ones, either, The people at the table next to ours got there before we did, and said that they they had waited more than an hour for their food to arrive.
The food was great, once again, and the server was very apologetic, saying that they were having trouble getting enough qualified staff, so we will definitely go there many more times. Even so, it really DID seem that things could have been better organized.
Next door to the Noodle house, to the North, is Pair Thai, and to the South was a Shabu Shabu place (Sorry, I don't remember the name). Has anyone tried either of these? What did you think?

Bossam recommendations
Try Cham Sut Gol or Shik Do Rak in Garden Grove, both on Garden Grove Blvd, between Brookhurst and Magnolia. Shik Do Rak bills itself as "The house of Dduk bo ssam", but we like Cham Sut Gol better.

Is it as good as the one in Inglewood used to be? Do they still have the same fried chicken?
