ISO bento-style lunch containers for kids

What kinds of food are you putting in the big compartment if mini firefly doesn't eat sandwiches?

hey lexi,

if you put an ice pack in the sandwich compartment, is there enough space in the split section for food for mini firefly? my little guy isn't a massive eater but he's certainly not a bird either. maybe my eyes are bigger than his stomach! lol.

Great idea about the ice pack in the sandwich compartment. I hadn't thought of that. I saw the sistema boxes at bed bath and beyond. I will go back and take a closer look.

ISO bento-style lunch containers for kids

hi CHers,

my little guy is off to full-day JK in september and i'm starting to look around for bento-style lunch containers. it seems there are quite a bit of options available online but i'd really like to see this stuff in person.

in an ideal world, i'm looking for containers with the following:
- 4 compartments; i'll settle for 3
- hinged lids ... but i'll settle for just one lid that covers the entire container (i don't want a big box with a ton of little boxes/lids inside - too many moving pieces that will ultimately get lost)
- relatively easy to manage/open by an almost-4-year-old
- fits in an insulated lunch bag
- BPA free etc.

i didn't think it would be so tricky to find this stuff ... so far, i've been to loblaws, walmart, canadian tire, pottery barn, ikea, bed bath and beyond, home outfitters.

the only option i've found that seems to meet my criteria is the spencer bento box at pottery barn. if i can't find anything in store, then i'm considering the easylunchboxes on amazon.

i'd love to hear what you've bought and where you bought from! fwiw, i'm in etobicoke.

thanks SO much for your help.

lunch containers for kids

thank you! i saw these containers and they look great. my only concern is whether they'd be too tricky for a 4 year old to handle. supposedly, there might be SOME help available for the kids to get their lunches sorted out. but i'm not sure what the details are. the school is having an open house next week so i'm hoping to get that answer!

Wow, thank you soooooo much for all these suggestions.

Where do you buy your bento supplies? I'm not sure where in Toronto I would find these but could definitely look online.

And sadly, Target shut down in Canada; but again, I can look on the US site.

Tks again!!

lunch containers for kids

hi CHers,

not sure if i'm posting in the right board (please move if required)...

my little guy is starting kindergarten in september (gulp). we will need to send him with lunch. we've been in a luxurious bubble with daycare for the last few years providing him a warm and relatively gourmet lunch (i.e. chick pea chowder, butter chicken, provencal fish, grassfed beef, etc). the kid has been eating better lunches than me!

i'd like your recos for suitable/appropriate lunch containers ... BPA-free, non-stick coating free, etc. my kid will be just shy of 4 when he starts school and while very communicative, he's got little hands and i have no clue how he's supposed to manage some of these containers i've looked at. it's a 1 teacher: 12 kids ratio and the kids are expected to be able to serve themselves.

i'm looking for two containers: one for hot lunches and another for 'cold' lunches (maybe like those bento-style containers i've seen?).

also, please feel free to share recos for lunch bags/boxes. my kid loves diggers, dinos, trains, and cars.

fwiw, i'm in toronto, canada but have access to purchase stuff online in the US.

thanks!!!

ISO organic dried apricots in bulk

no worries!

the manager said they're no longer able to purchase the product from head office.

interestingly - i remember seeing more organic dried fruit at bulk barn before and didn't notice that much (if any?) this time around.

Food recos in/around Vevey/Montreux

hi sophie,

it's been a couple of years and hubby's memory is already foggy on the best days. :)

he remembers going to le chalet with colleagues; he liked it and said the views were incredible. a colleague took him to a restaurant outside of vevey but he doesn't remember the name. :(

he got take out from a local chinese restaurant - nothing remarkable (we have amazing chinese food in toronto!).

he picked up chocolates at poyet ... now, THOSE were amazing.

grocery stores were all closed by the time he was out of meetings (everything seemed to close VERY early) so he was never able to stock up on anything. yikes.

sorry i couldn't be of more help!

i've never had an issue returning stuff without a receipt; i think they look it up on my card.

i've even returned OPENED and USED organic honey without a receipt (i think it had gone 'off' and the person at the desk said they get a lot of that product returned). i also returned a carton of eggs once cuz there was egg 'gunk' all over the eggs and it was one of the cartons that were wrapped in plastic so it's not like i could have checked beforehand.

the chips are WAY thicker and more 'hearty' than terra chips. and they seemed to be less greasy too.

i went around 11 am ... i guess that's early?

i'm always in a rush (thanks to my preschooler and my newborn) so i'm constantly weaving in and out at the etobicoke location trying to beat the crowds. :)
