Frankie & Fanucci’s-Hartsdale (ex-Lias's location)
garlic powder?..........uhh......yeah......This thread is hilarious........F and F is busy....the food is acceptable and the price is right by local standards......even the detractors here have eaten there 3-5 times. Is it possible there is just some knit-picking going on........I feel like this place was never gonna get their due unless they delivered some unprecedented, I must be in italy experience. Lighten up folks.....its just bread, cheese and dough.
New Mexican in Hastings
authentic taquerias.........yummy............what are your favorites?
Saranac Lake, NY - Good eats?
Lake Placid is your best bet up there. I have vacationed in the area for years and dining is always hit or miss. There was a great wine bar that I believe had just opened up last year that we had a dynamite meal in.......but alas I cannot remember the name. Honestly we have always planned on cooking while in the north country.
Meritage Scarsdale NY/ recent meal
what nite of the week were you there? $114 dollars was for 2 people i am assuming.
Meritage Scarsdale NY
website says they are not open for lunch on mondays......how long ago was this?
Oporto in Hartsdale
I ate dinner at Oporto the same night and had a completely different experience.....as a matter of fact I have been eating at Oporto for years and never experienced anything like what I am reading here.
Having to wait for a table on a Saturday night, especially the rainy Saturday night in question, does not seem that out of the ordinary in Westchester. In these cases I find that a little patience goes a long way in not ruining my evening.
When an otherwise consistent restaurant seems to be having what are admittedly minor hiccups, I turn my attention to the company I am with instead of the "dining" experience. I find that I am having less and less "bad" experiences these days.
Lighten up Alan, the folks at Oporto are good, hardworking people and they deserve better than this from the public they strive so hard to please.
Any recent word on Meritage in Scarsdale?
I think they are designed (and priced) for .3333333333333333 persons.
Any recent word on Meritage in Scarsdale?
Always a solid experience.......great food, great service and lovely atmosphere. Some say it's pricey but I tend to disagree when you consider what you are getting.....shhh! don't tell anyone.....this place is one of Westchester's little secrets!
Real Italian in Lower Westchester
I agree 100% although I would never describe Dante's as just a "red sauce" place. It is authentic southern italian more so than standard red sauce.
Real Italian in Lower Westchester
"outstanding, amazing red sauce places." ???????? This is an oxymoron. While I love the genre, even the best of them are never "outstanding" or "amazing", just like Pinot Grigio is never a transcendent wine experience. jus my 2 pennies.
Where is the value in Westchester?
Often times I read that prices at particular restaurants are high.....or I see comparisons of prices on particular menu items at different restaurants, and it raises, what in my mind is the obvious question.....Are we comparing apples to apples?
If restaurant A is charging $19.95 for filet mignon and restaurant B is charging $32, is restaurant B making that much more money on that steak? Or are they using a better product that presumably costs more than restaurant A's? That being said.......is it fair to say that restaurant B is expensive compared to restaurant A without taking into consideration the quality of the product being served?
There are obviously other factors as well........having a better trained, experienced staff presumably carries more cost, but in return you get better service or less liklihood that the aforementioned steak arrives at your table under/over cooked.
If you consider this, comments like; "Chez Blah Blah Blah has amazing food and great service, but it is sooooo expensive" are contradictory. So why do we do this, why do we label restaurants that deliver genuine quality as expensive, and label restaurants that are less expensive but serve a lower quality product as a value?
I posted this on the tri-state board because I live in Westchester and want to hear about the restaurants that C-hounders feel have a good quality to price ratio. TIA
Ultimate Westchester Restaurants 2006
Aside from the usual suspects there is no mention of some of my favorites on this thread:
1. Cafe Meze- The longest running high quality restaurant in Westchester.
2. Meritage in Scarsdale- Food with integrity and a menu that stays interesting.
3. Lia's in Hartsdale- The chef there is a true technician, the pizzas are a thing of beauty.
4. Oporto- Honest food at a great price and arguably the best chicken and sangrias in westchester.
5. Plates- A wildly creative chef who I know for a fact uses some of the best ingredients available.
