Mother's Day BRUNCH (list of places)
George is also doing a Mother's Day lunch. Prix fixe menu for $55.
Saturday brunch at a place near the Yonge subway line, between St.Clair and Union
Queen & Beaver on Elm.
Finding Meyer Lemons
I picked up a 1lb bag in St. Lawrence Market ( lower level - can't remember name of shop) for $2.99.
Yours Truly - new restaurant on Ossington
According to their twitter: "We only book half the room for each dinner sitting (6/9pm). Walk ins are very welcome."
Egg yolk ravioli
I haven't tried it but there's an Egg Yolk Raviolo on Splendido's current menu online.
Weezie's - meh
Thanks for your pov Googs. Haven't been in a year and half but enjoyed it enough then. I've got a few more Saturday theatre nights in the distillery this year so will go back to give it a try.
Weezie's - meh
Thanks for the update jamesm. And yes, Gilead is a good option. I think we'll just plan to do that.
Weezie's - meh
Has anyone been lately? It's been a while since I went last and am wondering if people are still having good experiences there. Am thinking of doing dinner there before a show in the Distillery in a couple of weeks.
A few questions to help finalize some details for trip next month
Thanks for confirming what I already suspected about RRBCo. As for Sobbit Goa, it came up in my search for Santa Rosa eats which included your own review. I was curious about it because while I've had some home cooked Goan food in the past, I've never been to a Goan restaurant. And thanks for the pastries options!
A few questions to help finalize some details for trip next month
Thanks for the Sweetie Pies tip. If we don't make it to Napa without a snack, we'll definitely check it out while we're in the area! Good to know about Oxbow. We'll plan to do lunch at Grace's.
A few questions to help finalize some details for trip next month
Thanks Robert. I’m not sure how I overlooked Cotogna. Looks great and think that I’ll actually swap out Flour+Water for it.
A few questions to help finalize some details for trip next month
Undecided/unsure on a few things for next month’s trip to wine country & San Francisco and am hoping some opinions from local ‘hounds will help me finalize the last few details.
1. Will be leaving SFO on a Thursday am to Napa via 101 to Bay bridge. Found some cafés/diners suggested for breakfast on chow if we decide on a sit-down but is there a great place for coffee around SFO/en route? Bonus if it’s got some pastries or the like we can grab to munch on on our way.
2. We have 9pm dinner reservations at the French Laundry that Thursday. Don’t want to overdo it at lunch and some suggestions I’ve read have been to graze at Oxbow market but am thinking we’d like to do a casual lunch early afternoon. Landed on Boon Fly Café and Grace’s Table – any thoughts?
3. We’ll be driving from Healdsburg to SF on Saturday with a stop in Santa Rosa at the Russian River brewpub. Looking for a good lunch idea in Santa Rosa. Thoughts on Sobbit Goa or Dierk’s Parkside Café? Would rather not eat at the pub unless someone thinks it’s decent enough for lunch.
4. Have 3 dinners booked in SF. Was aiming for a more relaxed/casual atmosphere with good food after The French Laundry and Cyrus in wine country. Booked Flour+Water, Bar Tartine & AQ. Curious about Aziza though. Would you bump one of these for Aziza?
Any thoughts are much appreciated!
Ici Bistro... also over there
Noticed on opentable this morning that Ici is now taking reservations online. Not sure how long they’ve been doing this but may help those who have been frustrated trying to get reservations in the past.
"Fancy" Veggie Restaurant Options?
Not sure how much you're willing to spend for a NYE dinner but how about Canoe or George? Went to Canoe for NYE two years ago and they prepared a vegan tasting menu for my husband. Before making a reservation, I called to make sure they could do this as the menu didn’t really list vegetarian options. And George always offers a vegetarian tasting menu so might be worth calling to find out if it’s an option for their NYE menu (not clear from their website).
Grant Van Gameren, Eno Sociale
We've had 7 at the high tops - this included one chair at the end. I haven't eaten in the private room but a friend was part of a group there once and really enjoyed the atosphere and tasting menu. Agreed it does look cool.
Belly Ice Cream - have you tried it??
I paid $13.95 for a 500mL container at All The Best. It certainly isn't cheap but totally worth it to me as an occasional treat (probably better for my waistline if I don't eat it regularly!). Finished off the apple crumble last night. Yum!
Belly Ice Cream - have you tried it??
Picked up the apple crumble from All The Best today. Just had some and it was exactly as you described. So good!! Thanks for the reco!
Weekend breakfast/brunch in Liberty Village?
Did you end up at Williams Landing? Saturday was a great day for the patio!
Weekend breakfast/brunch in Liberty Village?
Does anyone know if Williams Landing, the new place in Liberty Village, serves breaksfast/brunch? Enjoyed a drink on their patio soon after they opened but have not tried the food.
Dining options near Exhibition grounds
How about something in Liberty Village? You could try Temple Kitchen for decent fare and I don't think casual clothing will be an issue here. There is also School restaurant - I've never eaten dinner there as brunch and service never blew me away but they do have a nice patio and casual would also work there. Both are open on Sunday around 5. Am now re-reading your post and I wouldn't put either one of these in the interesting dining experience category! But they are close and open on Sunday. You could head up to Ossington but at quick check of a few places, Pizzeria Libretto is the only one open before 6.

Private dining
I’m considering a private dinner at either Splendido or George restaurant. I’ve eaten at both on different occasions but as a diner in the main room. Has anyone ever planned a dinner in a private room at either restaurant? If so, how was your overall experience with the food, menu planning and service?
Help in choosing a restaurant from this list
Back from my weekend in NYC and I just wanted to say thanks again for the votes for Scarpetta. It was a perfect and easy choice for our girls night out.

Help in choosing a restaurant from this list
Thanks for all your quick & decisive replies! Based on your feedback, we're going to do Scarpetta. As a previous poster mentioned, Toronto does have an outpost here but I have yet to try it, and I look forward to Scarpetta NYC.
Help in choosing a restaurant from this list
I'll be coming to the city next month with a friend for a girl's weekend of shopping, walking, talking and eating. This will be my first time in NYC and the plethora of options is overwhelming!
We currently have reservations at Eleven Madison Park and Le Bernardin and now I'm trying to land on a place for dinner for the Friday night. Would love to find a place where we can talk, enjoy the food and some wine and not feel rushed to get through dinner (but is this asking too much for a Friday night?). Sticking to an Italian theme, I've narrowed it down to Scarpetta, Maialino and Osteria Morini as well as Locanda Verde although I would have to take an early reservation here. I've read the great things about the bread at Scarpetta, some dishes to try at Maialino as well as the noise level at LV, but still can't make up my mind.
Which place would you choose? And is there another Italian restaurant not on this list that might fit the bill? (have excluded Marea as it seems it is seafood centric and want to skip as already doing Le Bernardin)
Thanks very much in advance!

ISO High-end vegetarian-friendly/creative restaurant in central Toronto suitable as treat for 20-somethings
I had dinner at George last night and my DC had three vegetarian courses. As noted above, the kitchen does put forth an exemplary effort on these plates and there was no pasta on any them. George also offers a vegetarian tasting menu.
Vegan pizza that delivers to yonge and eglinton - late at night
Pizzaiolo opens late in some locations so may also deliver at midnight. A few vegan pizzas on the menu. I'm a fan of the Fredo (carbs on carbs!) after a late night out.
ISO gluten free cake
Back from Vancouver. Went with the black & white mousse cake from Sweet Obsession and it was a huge hit with the birthday boy! Thanks again for the input. Also tired the lemon dacquoise which was a tasty treat!
ISO gluten free cake
You had me with lemon dacquoise! My bro is a chocolate fan so I'll go with the mousse cake for his birthday, but I'm going to be sure to try the dacqoise while I'm there. Thanks again!
ISO gluten free cake
Thanks for your input. Before I place an order, one last question - does Sweet Obsession produce good quality cakes? They have a chocolate mousse cake which looks good.
