Romantic Paris...

With air travel being as undependable as it is, I would not attempt to have a reservation your first night. You will be exhausted anyway and stressed if there are any delays. Would you consider making the special night later in the trip?

El Arrayan: Touristy or not?

We have been many times and don't find it too touristy or too expensive. Mixed fairly hip crowd of locals and non-residents, great atmosphere and wonderful food.

Ze Kitchen Gallerie [Paris]

It has received mixed reviews on several forums from real diners, not a Michelin Bibendum nebulous panel. I trust their reviews, maybe some good and bad nights. Maybe coasting on laurels?

Seafood Markets in Puerto Vallarta Area

I don't know the source of the fish but there is a website that a lot of ex-pats frequent and they know a lot about what goes on. It is allvallarta.com click on the message boards and post your questions. They are good about providing info about the way to do things in PV.

Seafood Markets in Puerto Vallarta Area

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you--I was afraid I would forget first thing this am and of course, I did! The fish market is near the cemetery called "Panteon" which is off the highway called "Libramento" and is bordered by streets Rio Colorado, Rio Usumacinto. You can get there from the other side(closer to the bay)by going up Calle Guatemala, or San Salvador. I don't remember the exact street location but is is very close to the cemetary. I will post on another board tonight and feel sure they can be more exact.

Colonias are areas of town. 5 de Diciembre is north of downtown and extends from the water up towards the mountains. Many of the streets there have names of South American countries. I don't have my map right here but can give you better directions tomorrow, If you are there now you could ask any local for the fish market near the Panteon.

Seafood Markets in Puerto Vallarta Area

There is a seafood market near the cemetary(Panteon) in the colonia 5 de Diciembre. I have been there twice and have not seen many gringos. Huge fish, shrimp, etc. I hope this is not too late to help you.

They were really busy when we were there in March and I would definitely recommend reservations, especially during a busy season.

Great BBQ in Pto Vallarta

Would it be Las Carmelitas? I have not been there but know many who have. Cab ride up a mountain with great view of the city and bay.

Anyone own Wells' "The Provence Cookbook"?

I thought I could be of help but the p. Wells Provence cookbook I have is "P. Wells at Home in Provence" and there are no souffle recipes in it. The only goat cheese recipe that is similar is a goat cheese gratin and it has no eggs in it. Sorry.

BEER at New Orleans

Abita Beer is locally brewed and is very good. Several regular brews as well as seasonal brews: Amber, Light, Golden, Turbodog. Seasonal now Bock and Red Ale as well as many other choices. Great beer.

PV opinions on Vista Grill, La Kliff, Xitomates, La Palapa, etc...

Casa Naranjo is not as Mexican oriented as the others. Great food with more of a Continental leaning but with a Mexican flair. We loved it

What's good in Puerto Vallarta?

El Arrayan is a great favorite. No view, but open air patio and wonderful regional specialities.

Just Returned from Puerto Vallarta

I am ashamed to admit that we have never dined at Dacquiri Dick's because of the name!! It sounds like a bad franchise and does not sound like it is in Mexico. I have read so many sources who rave about it--definitely on our list for next trip. It seems terribly small minded to judge so quickly on a name alone, but we did.

Tamales in Puerto Vallarta? Or small out of the way eateries that will blow me away?

Maria Candelaria. I had a card but can't find it--worth a stop. El Arrayan for great traditional food, many dishes from owner's family recipes. Not open for lunch. Maria Candelaria is open midday.

No Knead Bread - 1 Year Later

A cotton dishtowel(not terrycloth)with a tight weave and rice flour is the perfect combination. The rice flour does not stick to the dough nor the towel.. No need to wash the towel, just save it for re-use on next loaf.

Just Returned from Puerto Vallarta

I hope you get to El Arrayan next time--it is a great favorite of ours. I think they open at 6 for dinner, maybe closed only on Tues(I think that is correct)night.

We have been to El Dorado several times for lunch and don't remember an extremely long wait. We also sit back past the first row of tables to avoid the constant interruption by the vendors. I am never rude to them but feel that after I have said No gracias senor to the same vendor three times, they should get the idea that I don't want to bring a carved wooden elephant home from Mexico.

I have never been a fan of Blue Shrimp but seem to be alone in that opinion. I thought it overpriced and don't really like the cloyinly sweet or thick sauces that coated whatever we ordered. Also, it is one of the few places in town highly recommended by the cruise ships--that takes it off my list in addition to the soupy shrimp dishes.

B&B's and Eating in Camden Maine

Was traffic noise a problem at night? We stayed at the Whitehall 10 years ago (under previous ownership) in a front room on Rt. 1 and the truck noise kept us awake all night.
