Favorite Italian Restaurant in Bergen County

I'm so tired of Italian food, i could spit. How many more Italian restaurants can open? I watch 'foodie' shows from Italy, and I think...why can't that happen here? So simple, and fresh. Seafood and vegetables. *sigh* But when I do eat Italian in BC, it's at Il Cafone in Lyndhurst, or Risotto House in Rutherford.

Clove Indian Cuisine in East Rutherford - food delivery report

Yes, I absolutely agree...the sit down buffet is really good. I especially enjoy the weekend buffet.
(I've never done take out since my debacle in the summer, but I have gone back for the buffet!)

Saratoga Springs November 2-5

For a throwback German experience, Spa Brauhaus in Ballston Spa. Not far from SS....I enjoyed the food, and the kitchy, local ambiance. I would think they are opened year round, but check first.

Corned Beef Hash and Eggs

I second this, wholeheartedly.

Harold's New York Deli Restaurant In Edison

I've been to the Edison location - is the Harold's in East Rutherford/Lyndhurst owned by the same person?
When my husband and I ate there - I was able to make 2 reubens and a large amount of corned beef hash with the leftovers. Yes, I know the price is high, but three meals out of leftovers is good to me!

In search of baking classes in Northern jersey

Hudson County Community College has an excellent culinary program and they have lots of offerings for "adult education". (and the price is right, too!)

According to the ads, Olive Garden has fresh pasta.....

Brand new and absolutely terrific in Rutherford - Grill Poblano

Wow. I live in this town, and I'm confused about both of these reviews. This is an example of the best/worst of the Internet.
Give the owner of the business 5 minutes for goodness sake! In this economy, it's almost madness to start a business....plus you have to find staff that will stand up to the high standards of everyone that has a laptop or I-whatever.
I can't wait to check them out....and I want to support them through their ups and downs, and get to know them as a choice for food in Rutherford.
I'm thinking of every job I've ever had...how would things have been different if I had been ...Fired Or Hired...after 1 month.

Survey: Do we cook worse than the previous generations?

One of my favorite 'cookbooks' is the "Ellis Island Immigration Cookbook" by Tom Bernardin. He collected recipes of a generation of immigrants that created sustenance with a minimal amount of ingredients. The entire book is a story of our past - created through food.
So, I would say that we use entirely too many ingredients, because we are not hungry. 100 years ago, we were grateful for the concoctions our mother made out of flour, water, salt, meat, and vegetables.
They were forced to be creative with what they had. Now, we have too many choices. As cooks, we have a choice...which our relatives did not have.

North Jersey , ethnic , good eats ??

La Gran Via, 39th and Bergenline, Union City. Never had a bad meal, but the empanadas are my family's favorite.

The CHEW

These are the TV shows that inevitably are kept at ear splitting volume as I am stuck sitting in a doctor's office, fighting the urge to run screaming out of the room. By the time I'm called in to see the doctor, any test I may be prescribed will be a welcome relief!

Food suggestions in Clifton

100% agree. If there's any way you can make it through with a hand basket, it helps to get through the aisles and not be broadsided. (The large baskets need bumpers and turn signals!)

Korean food near Mahwah NJ

Clove Indian Cuisine in East Rutherford - food delivery report

I agree about Kamal Palace. Excellent alternative for delivery. The food is flavorful, and I'm glad that there are Indian food restaurants in the area now.

However, I do have a love/hate thing going on with Clove. I enjoy their lunch buffets (especially on the weekends, when the offerings are a little more adventurous).
A few months ago, I was in the area, and wanted take out, but my husband didn''t. I had never done 'take out' from a buffet before. I took one styrophone container and put my curry, vindaloo, etc in it, then took another one to place the pakora and salad, because I didn't want them to 'mix'. Well, I was promptly charged for 2 lunches. When I explained that I just didn't want my salad and pakora to get all soupy, the woman looked at me and coldly said, "no, that's two lunches....you are welcome to eat it here, but if you take it out, I will charge you" My answer was - "so, if I dump this all into one container, you'll only charge me once?" "Yes". So I proceeded to dump all my food into one container. I still used up two containers...but she wanted to make a point. I told her I had never 'taken out' from a buffet before, and wasn't familiar with the drill. I was pretty perplexed by her hostile attitude, and didn't appreciate it at all.
I didn't go back for a long time.

Great NJ Beer Stores

I second the Rutherford Wine Shoppe. They are very helpful, and their selection is impressive.

Cape Cod Farmer's Markets

In my mid-life, I've turned into a proud Farmer's Market junkie. I've been going to the Cape all my life, and have been to a few markets at the Cape. So far, my favorite is the Harwich market, but I'm wondering if there are strong opinions for or against any markets? Which have more vendors? Better turnout? Thanks for your opinions!

Produce/Meat Bergen County Area

My huband and I go to the Montclair Farmer's market on Saturdays, 10am-2pm (Walnut st. railroad station). Produce, plus fresh fish, fantastic kielbasa and pierogies, cheese and, of course the obligatory pickle booth.

In lower Bergen, Passaic, there are lots of Polish meat purveyors.

Great kielbasa.

Foods you have drive an hour to find?

While not a restaurant destination per se, my husband and I drive an hour to the Blairstown Farmers Market on Saturdays (10am-2pm), and then eat lunch at the Blairstown Diner. And we are happy. (and it's not in Zagats...we just like it)

Pancakes-Best in NJ?

Rutherford Pancake House, Park Ave., Rutherford

Best Food in Bergen Co, NJ

Silver Spoon Cafe from Pequonnack will be moving to Ridgewood (in June/July), and, I think, give the Pancake House some serious competition. Silver Spoon is a great breakfast/lunch place, but they do special dinners. Don't know if that dynamic will transition to the Bergen Cty location, but I hope so.

Greatest Jersey Pizza that most people haven't heard of

Yes, tommy, somehow the 'doormats' at Benny's taste differently when it's not associated with a late night in Hoboken!

Which bus for Cuban in Union City?

190. Get off immediately at the service road on Park Ave in Union City. Walk west to Bergenline. You can take vans on Bergenline to travel the length north/south.

La Gran Via is at 39th and Bergenline. My personal favorite.

Forno's of Spain in Newark

I agree! The food was good, but the parking lot was great!!

Gourmet Food Trucks in NJ Yet?

Tanqueria Autentica is a great draw at the Montclair Farmers Market. The drawback is that...they are a great draw..... At lunch time the lines can be prohibitive. So either go for breakfast, or wait until just before closing!

Best cities for food by Lyndhurst?

Yeah, I do agree. I love throwbacks!!

Best cities for food by Lyndhurst?

Just as an update: La Cibeles has been closed for a couple of years, and the space is still vacant. The Colonial Diner has completed a complete overhaul, and while the menu remains pretty much the same, it has expanded its space. (and I think the food has taken a turn for the better - it's one of my favorite places for breakfast and lunch)

Best cities for food by Lyndhurst?

You could take the bus up and down Ridge Rd from Lyndhurst to Kearny and back and sample everything from Scottish (The Argyle) to a myriad of Latin American places in Kearny and Harrison.
In Rutherford, one of my favorites remains Sabor Peru (on Highland Cross, off of Park Ave.)

Cheap lunch: Indian in North Jersey

It's on Route 17 South, so if you're going North, it would be on your left. (Get off at the Route 120 exit, and make the U turn to 17South)
Also, on the Lyndhurst/North Arlington border is Kamal Palace - they're pretty good too. It's a much smaller place (next to an Applegate Farms) on Ridge Rd. They do take out/delivery, too.
