Italian Food in Wilmington, DE

For red gravy Italian, we like Attilio's at Lincoln and Lancaster Ave. (they have fried smelts all year round!) For more authentic Italian, Pomodoro on Union St. is delicious, and one of the few places to make their own pasta.

Inexpensive lunch on road from Philly to Rehoboth Beach, DE

There really isn't much once you get past Wilmington (1/2 hour out) and the beach towns (2 hours out with no traffic). Best to wait til the beach and there are tons of threads on good places right on Rt. 1. The Pickled Pig is my favorite right past the Lewes exit. Have fun!

ISO Foodie Bed and Breakfast

There is also the Inn at Montchanin just outside of Wilmington. It has a great spa and restaurant and is right in the middle of all of the museums: Winterthur, Longwood, Hagley, Brandywine River Museum and more.

Good Truffle Oil in New Castle Co De

Can you use truffle butter instead? Much more likely to have real truffles in it (truffle oil usually is made from chemicals and no actual truffle). I think it tastes better too. Delicious on leftover mashed potatoes, if you have any left! Did this last night...

Thai take-out in Wilmington, DE

Bangkok House is decent, much better than the Pan Thai that travelmad remembers. Very inexpensive compared to Jasmine. We do both takeout and dine-in and always see a line-up of orders waiting to be picked up. They have a fairly large menu with all the usual curries and noodle dishes as well as some less known specialties. Pretty equivalent in quality to inexpensive Thai in major cities, so probably the best bet for what the OP is looking for.

French Butter in Wilmington

#2 butter snob! I only use plain butter to cook with now. When I can taste it, I want the good stuff!

French Butter in Wilmington

Janssen's has about 4 different french butters that I have tried. My favorite is the Buerre de Baratte (sp?) from Brittany with sea salt. Yum! I think there are salt free ones, too, but I love that crunch and salty goodness.

Du Four Puff Pastry

Janssen's Market outside of Wilmington, Delaware has it. www.janssensmarket.com

Wilmington, DE area - is it included on this board?

Santa Fe (Wilmington, DE)

Don't read too much into the health of a business from 1/2 price gift certificates. It is an easy way for places to stretch their advertising dollars without cash up front.

Where to buy Mexican Coke in Delaware or southern PA?

Tollgate Liqours on Lancaster Ave sells it by the case. I have picked up the singles at Janssen's Market on Kennett Pike. I think there is a place in the back of Prices Corner that has it too.

Philly Chowhounds need help for Wilmington, DE

I second gfweb's recommendations and would add Toscana as well. It isn't very loud on Sundays (but can be other days). I prefer Harry's Seafood down on the riverfront to the Savoy, but it can get a little noisy. Definitely one of the better wine lists in the area - including by the glass.

Yi Palace in Wilmington

It is on the right going north, in the same shopping center as Super G and Chilli's, but on the left side of the center next to Oreck.

Wilmington - Opinions on two restaurants

Well travelmad, hmmm...how do I not sound like a food snob...ok, I'll just admit it. I like to be challenged with new flavors and combinations when I go out to eat. Unfortunately, not everybody I like to dine with feels the same way. So I compromise (sometimes) on places where everybody can find things they like. UCG has good steaks for the steakhouse people, good fish dishes, and yes, a chicken dish or two. A few of the people I dine with don't feel like they have gotten their money's worth unless they take half their dinner home in a doggy bag, and they always have something for Fido at UCG. I have always enjoyed my meal, even if it hasn't been very memorable.

I really like Matthew Curtis (the new owner), and think he has chosen a strategy that will get him through these economic times that have been so tough on restaurants. Is it my favorite place in Wilmington? No, but we go back often depending on the crowd.

Union City Grill is now owned by a former chef at Toscana. He is doing great things there. He makes crowd-pleasing food well with fairly large portions. The only strange thing is every time I have gone there, most patrons are over 60. I guess reasonably priced, well done non-challenging entrees with large portions appeals to this crowd. Big plus: easy off-street parking. If this is a place for the business dinner you posted about in another thread, it would be a much better choice than Timothy's.

Your best bet might be a hotel restaurant. Not the best food, but they cater to your budget and need for privacy.

Wilmington DE Good Italian Recs

We love Attilio's on 4th St for red gravy Italian - it's not too far from your hotel, but definitely drive (not a safe walk). I'm not sure if they take credit cards, so bring cash. Walking distance from your hotel is Mezzanote in the Brandywine Building on 12th St. - but it is more high-end Italian and can be hit-or-miss depending on your choice. For the chocolate chip cookies, try Presto on Washington St, just a block or two from your hotel.

How much do you pay for a catered meal

In my experience, $25/hour is what to a pay a server, not a chef for a catered event. Most catering captains/chefs are paid $40 and up an hour...

Wedding Rehearsal dinner in Wilmington, DE

Actually DH has a separate private room, but we filled it with 10 people for a birthday dinner...delicious!

Wedding Rehearsal dinner in Wilmington, DE

I had an anniversary dinner for my parents at Harry's Savoy Grill on Naaman's Road. We chose one of the smaller rooms and it was perfect for 30 people - we had both a cocktail area and a table area where dinner was served. The staff was excellent and the planning was easy. It wasn't inexpensive, but everyone loved the food, so it was definitely worth it. Depending on the size of your wedding party, it might work for you. Good luck!

Fresh Lychee in Delaware?

I saw fresh lychee at Janssen's in Greenville this week.
