Looking for high-end and soulful sushi in Dallas

That covers the high-end. Now, if you're looking for "soulful", I'd recommend Sushi Sake. There are several posts on this forum extolling its virtues.

Onion Soup Les Halles

Oh I don't think it looks like crap. I think it looks like a real person made the soup and then took a picture of it, just as it was. I like it.
I make this all the time at my restaurant and that's how it looks when it comes out of the broiler. I've never touched a bowl of it with a towel.

Good Thai in East Dallas/Downtown?

No, they're not right next to each other. Bangkok in is Skillman and Oram, it's good enough. Bangkok City is Peak and Bryan and also Greenville and Dyer or University or something close, it's no bueno. I live in East Dallas right by Bangkok Inn. It's ok if you talk to the owner and really explain what you're looking for. This is the hardest part of eating Thai in a restaurant, convincing them that you don't want "american 'thai' spicy" and whatnot. Best just to drive up to Plano and hit Jasmine Thai or Noodle Wave.

Onion Soup Les Halles

What's vague about 8 large or 12 small? Look at the onions at the market, you'll spot the different sizes, then just go from there.
This soup rules, it's such a rich, classic delight. I love Bourdain.

Temptations Indian Restaurant, DFW CLOSED??

Which one? They have an uptown Dallas and an Irving location. Uptown's open for business and makes a super vindaloo if you ask for it.

Green Papaya in Dallas

Any Vietnamese restaurant would have pho. However, I gotta agree that Vietnam is far superior. Even better, Mai's on Bryan.

Korean in Dallas?

Quadruple for Seoul Garden. Make it happen, you won't regret it. And try the pork belly off the bbq menu.

Greetings from a new Dallasite

Thanks for that tip! I currently live in uptown and was begining to think there wasn't one place worthwhile around here except Lola. Oh and Hook Line and Sinker...

Royal Thai? Really? I've only been once for dinner, but I thought it was pretty sub-par; I also got the same impression at Bangkok City on Greenville. I do like Thai Soon and Jasmine Thai a good bit, and there' s also the true hole in the wall: Thai Lotus! I'm about to go now I think... It's in the Oak Lawn area, on which crossroad I can't recall. Vietnamese and Korean seem to be in abundance though. Hong Ly is good in Richardson's Chinatown area.
