Pareve Dessert for Thanksgiving

Does anyone have any pareve dessert recipes for Thanksgiving? I want to bring something to my mom's this year, but there are some limitations: she always makes cookies and pie, so those are out. I'm thinking some sort of tart or cake. Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance!

Thanksgiving without butter? Oy.

My biggest advice is to check the margarine carefully for a "pareve" marking. Not all margarines are pareve - you'd be suprised how many are dairy. I use Mother's and find it works well. Good luck and don't stress too much :)

Tomato Paste in a Tube???

Thanks for all the responses! I've looked a couple times at WF and TJ's but I will look again. :) And joanW2002 - thanks for the freezing tip! That's a good thing to know! :)

Tomato Paste in a Tube???

On the cooking shows on TV, the chefs always use tomato paste that comes in a squeezable tube that is re-closeable, but I can only find tomato paste in a can at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods and everywhere else. Then I end up wasting the rest of the can because I don't cook with it often enough. Does anyone know where I can find tomato paste in a tube in the Chicagoland area? (preferably in the city...)

Madison chow

I agree with most of the comments already. Tutto is definitely underwhelming, especially when there's other great Italian (Bellini's!). I highly recommend Cafe Continental for their brunch! They have a bananas foster french toast that's to die for and really yummy cheese grits!

I second jrnorton23 on the Terrace - there's nothing like it, especially with a cold beer and a hot dog (or brat). Bring cards, board games, spend the day in the sun. :)

Other favorites on State Street and in the area:
Ian's Pizza (best late at night, go for the Mac & Cheese)
Sunroom
Blue Marlin (great seafood)
Ocean Grill
and.. the Thai cart in Library Mall (I'm blanking on the name... can anyone help?)

I was just there this past weekend - enjoy!! :)

Counter Measures

My parents actually have a huge compost pile in our backyard. The neighbors don't love it, but it's great for the garden! Plus they create virtually no waste between recycling and composting. Pretty cool!

I have a Box of grape nuts, now what?

I agree! I ran out of granola one day and used Grape Nuts instead. It's a heartier addition and now I eat them every morning!

Counter Measures

This is such a great source of information! Green is so trendy now, it's logical that it would apply to the kitchen as well. Another great source for staying green in the kitchen is at Recipe4Living.com (http://www.recipe4living.com/content/...).

Matzah Toppings

I live off of matzah pizza all week! I wish I could eat peanut butter, but it was always taboo in my family. But Temptee (that whipped cream cheese) and jam is my favorite breakfast! Also, the classic smoked cheese melted on matzah is also a good snack.

Passover brunch

Fried maztoh is a must. It's easy and everyone always loves it - especially for breakfast/brunch. I also recommend matzoh meal pancakes served with a fruity jam and some sugar sprinkled on top. Sounds so good I almost forgot it's Passover food! :)

Pita Party

Just the idea of handing all my friends of relatives a tub of hummus wrapped up in a bow.... hilarious! I'm a hummus-lover myself, but come on - Christmas present??? I'd be disappointed.
