People forget about Cherry Hill House...Haven't been in quite some time but I think 25 people would be fine here! Few years back we had a party upstairs for about 25 and it was cozy & nice..great food too.

Looking for the perfect cinnamon buns

I make my "dough" for cinnamon buns in the bread machine..Works every time.

Frosting is easy yummy but easy..it's basically
2 Tbsp. melted butter
1 Cup Icing Sugar
1/4 cup cream cheese (room temp)
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Put all in bowl and mix with electric beater on high..Mix a few mins and let sit to set before icing cinnamon buns..This is the best icing I've tried so far..and the one I use all the time when I make the buns..

What are Chowhounds having for dinner tonight?

Tips on making Lasagna to be frozen in portions?

Yes, I agree!! Make it in a large pan and cook then cook, cool & slice into individual portions & freeze..I've tried all ways and I too wrap in plastic wrap first then place into ziploc bags for freezing portions..Takes up less space in freezer this way then putting into containers..Take out & nuke or put into oven to reheat. Ever wonder why all the freezer low cal meals contain pasta? It's because as someone else mentioned they are so forgiving ....

Valentine's Day Chocolates

Richard's in Port Credit gets my vote these days..At Christmas I got a lovely box of chocolates from there and the chocolate covered marshmallows were lovely, also the carmel chocolates..the mice too were yummy the ones without the liquor..I'm tired of Lindt & Godiva..Richards gets my vote!! Wonderful tasting chocolate & melt in your mouth creamy... It's near the Go Station..they moved awhile ago from their Lakeshore Road Location.

Ottawa Restaurant Recommendations?

Without a doubt you must go to the "Wellington Gastropub". It's my #1 choice. Fabulous food, menu changed twice a day every day of the week. It's not a big menu but something for everyone that's for sure. Food is wonderful with great presentation...All desserts are home made including the ice-cream. One page wine list with nice offerings. It's also a great spot for lunch too!!!

Searching for authentic salsa recipes.

Best tomatoes you can find
medium onion
FRESH cilantro
Jalapeno pepper or serrano 1 or 2 or 3 depends on your taste
salt to taste
1 lime
dash olive oil

Peel the tomatoes, & core & chop
chop the onion
chop the pepper
chop the cilantro
Combine in bowl & stir, add dash of fresh lime juice & dash olive oil..Stir together and voila..Mmmm good..plain & simple..doesn't keep that long but tastes great!!! It will keep a day or two though.....No garlic in salsa in Mexico that I've ever tasted!!!

What to cook in my new crock pot?

Our Favourite is a Short Rib Roast with Au Jus..Mmm perfect for sandwiches & the Au Jus for dipping..make a salad or cole slaw and Voila..Recipe is easy, 1 short rib roast, either fresh or frozen even, 2 - 3 sliced onions, 1 pkg Au Jus Mix..I use McCormick's Brand, 1/2 cup white wine, 2 cups low sodium Beef Broth, 1 bay Leaf, 1/4 cup Worchestshire Sauce. If the roast is fresh then brown it first..if not don't worry, just put it in the pot frozen..Cook on low all day. My best tip is to spray the inside of the pot with Pam first. Then add the onions, then the roast and mix the rest of the ingredients together and pour over the top..Great leftovers!!!

FRESCO'S Prepared Meals to Cook at Home!!

I came across this company with many wonderful products available. They are prepackaged ready to cook meals..I found them recently at a large Dominion store at Southdown & Lakeshore Road E. They had a kiosk set up and I tasted the Beef Stirfry..which was tasty. We've had the Shrimp and also the Spicy Pork which was very good... I normally don't buy anything like this but I'm telling you these products are lovely to prepare. I love the freshness of the vegetables...simply wonderful. Wonderful for two people!! Check them out if they are available near you. They also have storefront locations where they sell many different types of COOK AT HOME meals. Check them out!!!

Ottawa: dinner at Domus Cafe or Wellington Gastropub?

Hey Thom,
Funny, but we've been there also..I'm a bit tired of it actually.
We just returned from a few days in Gatineau and happy to report another fantastic meal at the Wellington Gastropub. My DH had the Berkshire Pork Loin and totally agrees with your comment. I had a taste and it truly was delicious. I had a filet which cooked to perfection. My DH had a lovely salad with spiced pecans, balsamic dressing and it was simply heaven. We had chcocolate creme brulee and a cake with dates & coconut pecan sauce..Mmm good. We like the casual atmosphere of the Wellington with the addition of such great variable menus. (twice daily) WOW!!!

Ottawa: dinner at Domus Cafe or Wellington Gastropub?

We recently had an awesome lunch at the Wellington Gastropub in Ottawa. So much so, we went back the next night to celebrate a Birthday Dinner with a friend of ours. Dinner was higher than my expectations. Shane the owner even brought me a fresh creme brulee, as I told him it was my favourite, and it wasn't on the dessert menu. What a special touch. The wine list was good and we ordered a wonderful Amarone with dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant!! They change their menu at lunch and diner every DAY!!! We enjoyed it so much that we changed our plans to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary to go back to Ottawa so that we can dine at the Wellington on our Anniversary.....Mmmm yummy!!!

10 or 11 hours in a slow cooker?

Beef "Dip" Sandwich

Ingredients:
3 1/2 pounds beef bottom round roast
2 medium onions, sliced
1/2 cup dry white wine
1 package (1.1 oz size) Au Jus Mix
2 cups beef broth
6 French or Hoagie rolls
Directions:
Remove the top layer of fat on the roast. Place onion in bottom slow cooker; add roast. Combine wine, Au Jus Mix and broth; pour over meat.

Cover and cook on low 9 to 10 hours or until meat in tender. Slice the meat for sandwiches. Remove broth from pot (remove onions) and strain.

Serve in small bowls for dipping.
I add a couple of cloves of garlic and fresh thyme sprigs & freshly ground pepper. Also I use a "short rib" roast..I find it has great flavour ...Mmmm
Enjoy!

10 or 11 hours in a slow cooker?

Hey Deenso I use my slow cooker mostly in the Winter however, if you ask me unless it's chicken you are cooking..I'd put in a short rib roast large and all the fixins for beef dip sandwiches and cook it for 8 - 10 hours..then put it on "keep warm" should be fine..Hopefully your slow cooker has the "keep warm" feature..should be fine then.
I have a great recipe for Beef Dip Au Jus...for the slow cooker if you should want it..
