Sunday evening dinner in Lisbon?

Hi Everyone,

I'll be traveling to Italy via Lisbon in September and due to flight scheduling, I'll have a one day stopover. I'd like to enjoy a really great dinner while I'm in Lisbon, but it looks like many of the restaurants that are highly recommended here are closed on Sundays. Can anyone recommend a place that would be open on a Sunday evening? I'm looking for something uniquely Portuguese, but am open to non-traditional or fusion style. Thanks!!

Sicily, Amalfi Coast, Naples- Feedback please!

Where did you go for a cooking class in Sicily? Trying to plan a trip for September and having trouble finding recommendations for this. Thanks!

Emeril's Orlando or Tchoup Tchoup

I think the food at Tchoup Tchoup is a little more exotic than what you'd find at Emeril's-- it's like a pan-asian style. Everything I've had there has been good and it's my go-to place if I'm headed to Orlando for a concert at the Hard Rock Live. They do change the menu frequently so it keeps things interesting. It used to be tough to get a reservation, but I don't think it is so much anymore. Seating in the bar area is first come, first serve though.

Orlando has a Korean barbecue taco truck!

Awesome! Would they consider a once a week trip to Tampa? Tried the Korilla truck in NYC last month and it was great!

Restaurants with interesting game choices within approx 1 hr of Vail?

Hey Mountain Hounds!

I'll be visiting Vail for vacation in March and I'm looking for recommendations on where I can try some unique dishes featuring wild (or farm raised) game. Any type of restaurant is fine, but I'd like to have some choices--maybe buffalo, elk, venison, quail, etc. I'm willing to drive about an hour or so from the resort area, so if you know of anywhere unique, I'm all ears!

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Late night food near Grant Park

There is a Lou Malnati's on State Street that is open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Their web site says they deliver until 11 on those nights as well. I'm staying at the Blackstone as well and was looking for similar information. Trying to find a cab after Lolla is absolutely impossible. I was thinking about trying to take the train to Avec one night too, but we shall see...

Anyone been to Silom Thai Cooking School?

I am visiting Thailand soon and definitely want to take a class at one of the local cooking schools. Has anyone visited the Silom Thai Cooking School? From what I have read, you shop at the market and also learn to make curry paste from scratch which sounds great. If anyone has been, I would love to hear about your experience and perhaps how it compares to some of the other schools.

The web site for the Silom school is

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Tampa birthday dinner for a NYC Chowhounder: Help!

I would second the Ocean Prime suggestion. My party had seafood (seabass, snapper) and steak (NY strip), and they were all excellent. Most sides are a la carte, but they have a good selection. The "handcrafted" cocktails made with fresh fruit were really good as well.

Council Oak at the Seminole Casino is good as well. Even though it is billed as a steak place, you can't go wrong with the Alaskan King Crab legs that are flown in fresh daily.

wanted: gourmet box/picnic lunch Tampa/St.Pete

Roy's is doing lunch now and I think they may have a bento box kind of thing. Not sure how portable they could make it, though.

Tastings in St. Petersburg closed??

I went over to Tastings wine bar in St. Pete last night to find it totally closed up! They had removed all of their signage and everything. I was there less than a month ago and there was no indication that they were closing or going out of business, so needless to say I was kind of surprised. Does anyone know if they are closed for good or maybe just relocating? I know that the Baywalk property has gone into foreclosure, so I was hoping that maybe they were just moving, but there was no indication of this at the storefront. Anyone have anymore info on this?

What's the story with The Table restaurant in St. Pete/Sarasota?

Seems like both the Table in St. Pete as well as the Table in Sarasota are both closed now. From what I had read, the manager of the restaurant in St. Pete was planning on reopening with the chef from the Sarasota restaurant, but I haven't heard any updates. Anyone know what's going on? The restaurant in St. Pete was great and always seemed crowded. It'd be a shame if it is closed for good.

Key West in Nov.

We tried Tavern 'N Town on our last trip (end of Oct.) and found it to be very good. It used to be affiliated with Norman Van Aken, but I don't know that it is anymore. The fish was very fresh and came out piping hot. I also enjoyed the pomegranite mojito. The Havana Banana Split is almost identical to the banana dessert that was served at Norman's in Miami for many years. Yummy. The restaurant is located in a new hotel that is just off the highway on the right almost as soon as you drive onto the island. Sorry I can't recall the name!

Recommendations for a later dinner in ABQ?

Thanks for your help! We wound up at Frontier, which worked just fine for us and we even took home some extra tortillas and sweet rolls for pre-balloon breakfast. Too bad we got skunked by the weather on Sat/Sun. Oh well-- next year!

Recommendations for a later dinner in ABQ?

Hi Everyone,

I am flying into Albuquerque this evening and will probably try to get out for dinner around 8-8:30ish. It seems like a lot of restaurants in ABQ (especially New Mexican restaurants) close before this time. Can anyone recommend a good non-chain restaurant where I can get a meal at this time? Would prefer local cuisine/something unique to the area. Thanks!!

Best (Restaurant/Food) of Montreal

I have to second the seal duo as well! I had never had seal before, but it was great-- well prepared and delicious! Our server told us that 5e Peche was the only place in town currently serving seal. I didn't see it on any other menu, either. (I was there in the beginning of July, btw)

Best crab in Tampa?

The Alaskan King Crab Legs at the Council Oak (in the Seminole Hard Rock Casino) are hard to beat. They apparently fly them in fresh every day from Alaska. Just make sure they come out piping hot-- if not, send 'em back!

Just fyi, I went to Buvette Chez Simone today and they did not have the Pear Cider. Apparently it was something special that they had for the opening...??

St. Pete in early July

The only thing really within easy walking distance of the Trop is Ferg's sports bar. It's okay, but nothing to write home about. There is a trolley called the Looper that runs to and from Tropicana Field and points in between on game days, so you might do better to take the trolley somewhere closer to downtown for food. There are lots of restaurants on Central Avenue and nearby to choose from. BTW, I think the Looper normally costs a quarter to ride, but it might be free for the games....I can't recall.

Foodies in St. Pete

ZGrille on Central is good and fairly inexpensive. I really like their pork tacos. Also, they have lots of interesting beers to choose from.

Place for a snack near Place des Artes?

Hey Chowhounders,

I am arriving for my Montreal vacation on Saturday (early afternoon) and have tickets to see Brad Mehldau at the jazz festival at 6pm. I have a dinner reservation for after the show, but I'm sure that I'll want to get something light to eat beforehand. Can anyone recommend somewhere near the Place des Artes for something light (or even appetizers) in the late afternoon/early evening? Thanks!

Suggestions for Mont Tremblant in the summer?

Hi everyone,

I will be visiting Montreal in a few weeks and had planned to go up to Mont Tremblant for a day or two. I searched the board for suggestions, but am curious about whether most places are open for the summer?

If anyone has any great lunch or dinner suggestions for places that will be open the 1st week of July, I would appreciate it. Thanks!!

Dining in Helsinki on a Sunday night?

Hi everyone,

I will be visiting Helsinki for a few days at the end of June/beginning of July and have read quite a few tips here on good places to eat.

However, it seems like many places are closed on Sundays. I will arrive in Helsinki on a Sunday afternoon would like some suggestions on what might be open and good for dinner. I am planning on staying at the Hotelli Seurahuone in the city center and have heard that their restaurant (as well as room service) is closed on Sunday as well.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Busch Gardens

Not really healthy at all, but the Crown Colony restaurant serves a family-style fried chicken dinner that I always thought was pretty good. Plus, it overlooks the veldt, so you can watch the animals while you eat.

Fine Dining/Seafood in St. Pete, Tampa or Anywhere in Between

I think Salt Rock Grille is pretty good. It's right on the intercoastal in the Indian Rocks area. I usually order seafood there, but they also have lots of steaks as well. I also like Marlin' Darlin'. It's not exactly fancy, but not exactly casual either. They have some interesting preparations on their menu. They also have a ceviche spoon appetizer ala Jaguar in Miami if you like ceviche. I think you can find menus for both restaurants on the web if I recall correctly.

Le Provencal - Coral Gables

I always loved Le Provencal when I lived in the Gables. They had awesome Beef Wellington. Plus, all the dinner entrees came with a salad and a full plate of veggies... kind of a rarity in these days of "a la carte"...

Looking for a good non-chain place North Tampa/New Tampa Lutz

I 2nd your recs for Don Jose and Mariposa. Have been to Don Jose many times in both the old and new location. The duck is very good, as is the chicken and yellow rice. Although I haven't had it in a while, the ostrich is pretty good too. It's a lot like beef if you've never had it before. I've only been to Mariposa once, but I had the sopes and they were great. They also have lots of great fresh juices there.

Recs for early dinner near Greensboro Coliseum in NC?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for an early dinner for a group of about 8-10 people near the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC.

It looks like Stamey's has had mixed reviews lately, so I'm not sure if we'd want to go there, but we'd definitely like to stay near the Coliseum.

Also, is there any "must go" places in Greensboro or nearby for a brunch or lunch on a Sunday?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Actual good places to eat in Disney/Universal/Orlando

I love Emeril's Tchoup Tchoup at the Royal Pacific hotel (in the Universal complex). The food has a lot of asia/pacific rim influence. They also have very good fruity-type specialty drinks (the Tangaroa Island for 2 comes out flaming...). Don't be discouraged if you can't get a reservation-- you can usually walk in and get a table in the bar area.

As for Tampa, if you're not looking for a steak, you may want to check out Restaurant BT (It's a Vietnamese/French style restaurant). I really like both the Lemongrass chicken and the duck (though they also have lots of interesting looking seafood dishes on the menu). Great cocktails as well.
