Half Moon Bay Restaurant & Day Trips Recomendations

I'm a big fan of Pasta Moon on Main St in HMB, not too far from Rt 92. It's comfortable, a reasonable value, delicious, and the owner and staff are lovely. I almost always stop there when I'm in HMB.

Half Moon Bay - Monday group dinner for work

I second the Pasta Moon recommendation for several reasons. I've been there on business occasions; they can put your group into one of their private rooms and restrict the menu selection, if necessary, to accommodate your budget. The food and service are lovely. Try the squash-filled ravioli with the amaretto cookie crumbs.

Dog-Friendly in Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Lutz, Land O'Lakes, Zephyrhills

Is my recollection flawed, or didn't the FL legislature pass a piece of lesilation last year making it illegal to forbid dogs at any restaurant with outdoor tables. (You and doggie have to sit outside and server may not touch doggie.) I offer this tidbit only because - by legislative fiat - any restaurant with an outdoor section is now dog-friendly. So go find your favorite spot.

Ft Lauderdale Sublime ..... Been There?

I've been there a few times. I'm not a vegetarian - far from it, but I loved the place. It that this fantastic green, zen-like beauty to it, and the food was amazing. However, it closed for a long time after the hurricane season of 2005, and I think it re-opened briefly but then closed again for good. As far as I know it's closed. If it has re-opened, I can't vouch for it in its present incarnation.

L.A. Chowhound in withdrawals! Moved to Ft. Lauderdale

Here are 5 recommendations in the same area as some of the one's you've experienced.

Try Tipico in the Gateway center for Mexican; Suhko Thai for Thai, Canyon for sit down Southwestern (pricier), and Monster Sub for carry out subs.

A little further south, since you like diners you have to try Lesters on State Route 84.

Italian in FLL

Oh, now I understand your question. No...you'd get excellent fish or meat entrees for the money. If you want to be charged $40 for a plate of pasta you'd have to go to Cafe Matorano, which is why I didn't recommend it.

Italian in FLL

Hmmmm, I was thinking it's more of a meat and fish place.....not really pasta and salad. Not to say there aren't pastas on the menu but that's not exactly what they're about. It's what I call "High Italian" cuisine, if you know what I'm saying.

Fine Dining in Key West

Is there such a thing? A coouple we know is going there for a celebration and we want to buy them a really nice dinner...like $200-ish. But where? They wouldn't like stuffy, but they do like fine food. Any suggestions?

Italian in FLL

Casa D'Angelo is the best Italian retaurant in the city, I think. Dishes are well crafted and executed. Only downsides are that it's in a strip mall (constant irritant to me about Fort Lauderdale restaurants) and I don't think your $30-40 per person will be quite enough. It's also a little cramped. Still the best overall though and the food doesn't disappoint.

Napa Valley Restaurant

A couple we're fond of, and who've done us some nice favors over the years, are celebrating a birthday together with a Napa vacation and we'd like to make them a fantastic dinner reservation and give them a nice celebration meal. Budget is $200-ish. I haven't been to Napa in 15 years and don't know what's great and special at the moment. Suggestions, please?

Roasted Rosemary and Lemon Chicken

I think it's impossible to beat Thomas Keller's roast chicken recipe from the front pages of Bouchon. I've never tasted better chicken. This one IS the holy grail:

Pre-heat to 475F.
Rinse and dry the bird (3 3/4 pounds, approx) thoroughly. Salt and pepper inside and out. No stuffing, no moisture --> no steam.
Truss it.
Cook for about 45 minutes.
When you pull it from the oven, drop some fresh thyme springs into the cooking juice.
Relax it a bit, then slice. Slather some butter on it if you wish. Pour the thyme-infused cooking liquids onto the meat.

Couldn't be simpler, nor better. Everybody loves this chicken.

Need Ft. Laud dining option for 15

Not totally kid friendly (a little crowded) and across A1A from the beach so it's not like the kids'll be running in the sand while the adults dine. Do you care about the quality of the food, or you just want to feed 15?

Where's the best market to buy big shrimp?

I love the fish picture too. I saved it to my My Pictures file. Looks like something in a stock art collection. Thanks for sharing. Pacific Snapper, I presume?

Rehearsal Dinner Locations in Ft. Lauderdale

Chima would be great fun for a rehearsal dinner, and the space is flexible and attractive and I think it would run about $32 per person before drinks so you could probably arrange some table wines to pour and keep it to your budget.

Casa D'Angelo or Herban Kitchen

Chima's a clever coice too for a group. I know these Brazilian steakhouses are getting a little overdone with chains, but Chima is a really good original one. The building is lovely, with a great courtyard out front for cocktails before dinner; the salad bar is huge and filled with tantalizing salads and appetizers, and the meat is of course dlicious and plentiful. It's really fun for a group; more fun and suitable to group dining than Casa, which I find a little cramped. Also, Casa is housed in a strip mall on Federal Hihway whereas Chima is on Las Olas...much better for strolling or going out for coffee afterwards. I've never heard of Herban Kitchen, sorry.

At the Shore Club in south beach for a week

There's a really cool place on the South side of Lincoln road, about mid-wat down, and it's called Cafeteria, I think. It does really great delicious interpretations of cafeteria classics and it's one of my favorite inexpensive places on South Beach. Try like a tossed salad and their macaroni and cheese. It'll set you back maybe $11 and you'll have an awesome meal. You can be totally comfortable there eating alone at the bar too.

Miami's best recommended?

Casa Tua, Casa Tua, Casa Tua, Casa Tua, Casa Tua, Casa Tua.

I've been to almost all the restaurants you mention, and I think Casa Tua will be one of your favorites. Absolutely beautiful in a non-trendy, extremely comfortable way (Think of eating in the home of a very good friend with a gorgeous place in the Hamptons) and the food was perfect.

Ft Lauderdale / Deerfield Beach

Catfish Dewey's is sort of an all you can eat fried catfish place. Definitely unpretentious, favored by the older folks, has a certain charm, but may not be what you're after. Old Heidelberg isn't a seafood restaurant, it's a traditional German meat-haus with a butcher counter attached. My recommendation: go to Himmarshee's, sit at the bar and get their snapper and a glass of wine for $25.00.
