Surrey's would be a great Sunday brunch. They are cash only, so keep that in mind.

Desperately Seeking Crawfish Pie

I believe you are thinking of Tee-Eva's. Its a little yellow with painting on it building pretty much at the corner of Magazine and Napoleon.

Timpano (Big Night)

I also used a 9" springform pan and it came out beautifully. It is the picture on my profile. I took about 6-7 different recipes and took different parts from it to my liking. The sauce and the dough are the most important parts.

Slightly stinky chicken... Am I crazy or is it okay?

Interestingly, it seems that all those that are against ratting the chicken have had past experiences with food-poisoning. Seems to me the reason they've had food poison in the past is due to their phobias of not eating food that is slightly off. Being a immunologist, this just goes to show that you have to "challenge" your immune system for it to function properly when it is needed. Also, to the people that are only about "eating for pleasure", some of us are too poor to throw away food that may be slightly spoiled.

Cold Crawfish makes this foodie mad!

I've always considered the "cold" crawfish thing to be a New Orleans thing. All the places I've ever eaten crawfish at outside of New Orleans has always been piping hot. Maybe it is because most of the places in New Orleans don't particularly specialize in crawfish so they have to worry about other food items, whereas alot of places near Lafayette usually specialize in them so they are always hot.

Anyone been to Cochon? How is it?

Must have been an off night for the smothered chicken. I found it to be full of favor...yes, the gravy is water, but that is the way it is supposed to be (at least that is how my cajun mother makes it as well...not supposed to be "soul food", but cajun food). To me the portion sizes are perfect. I've left quite full on all my visits.

Need Suggestions for Garden District

Tulane is not in the Garden District. I really love Surrey's for breakfast, which is in the lower garden district, but far from Tulane. They have great specials that incorporate a lot of local food. The Boudin breakfast biscuit sandwich is really good. Their juices are great as well. It is cash only.

New Orleans BBQ

I've had the breakfast and was very disappointed. Portions were really small and everything was out of a bag. The coffee was pretty bad too. I don't think they use anything fresh in the place. And see, here all this time I thought it was more of a BBQ place than a breakfast place based on what others have commented to me on the BBQ. I guess it is safe to say that I won't try the BBQ now.

Fine Dining at the Bar

Before the storm they had this awesome pork dish...it was a double cut pork chop with this amazing fig sauce. I keep begging for them to bring it back.

Sukho Thai is great. It is BYOB as well. It's pretty safe late night. There will be a lot of other people around.

Where can I find huitlacoche, squash blossoms, and masa?

Whole foods carries a good selection of mexican products. Also, there is a new latin grocery that has opened up on Tulane (near the old Albertsons).

Recs for baby-friendly dining in NOLA

Cochon would be perfectly acceptable for a baby. They also play very good hip music so she may enjoy that.

Maybe Impossible

The warehouse district isn't a bad walk from the FQ. There you could have a light tapas lunch at Rio Mar. you could also just dine on raw oysters at Felix's.

Father's Retirement Dinner: WHERE??

Consider Brigsten's or Herbsaint. Both have a very neighborhoody feel (even though Herbsaint isn't really in a neighborhood, Brigsten's is however). You'll have to make reservations pretty early considering it is a Jazz fest weekend.
