Joy of Kosher Best of 2011....Joke of Kosher more like it
It actually *is* Pasta Factory. They went meat and changed the name a bit later.
Chai Ko Tapas (Teaneck)
We ate there last night. Went out for a "date night".
We were very impressed by the service, but like KC were underwhelmed by the decor. The dumplings were some of the best I've had though.
The main was excellent - at the servers suggestion we tried a prime rib that had been marinating for four days, served with a mushroom sauce and a demi-glace, both on the side instead of smothering. The steak was massive, and they encouraged splitting, which was nice.
Service was speedy, and the presentation was excellent/
Why not -- another new restaurant in Teaneck?
It's open as of today. They had some excitement last night too. Firetrucks in front. Going to see what's what.
Kosher Food (Maybe Not Quite Chow) In Port Authority
They should have opened near the Passiac gate, Then people would know who KOA was.
That said, Kof-K's contract is actually for the ingredients, not the stores themselves. Each store would need it's own Teudah.
Kosher Food (Maybe Not Quite Chow) In Port Authority
So it turns out the new Carvel/Cinnibon in Port Authority, right near the Bergan County buses, is under KOA.
That's going to drum some business up.
new name for pasta factory
I was gifted with a gift certificate to the new place. Any suggestions on what's proper Chow?
NYC Vegetable Garden - New Location Opening Soon
That's great, but will they do anything about the food tasting like... well, I don't wanna be unkind, but um... ick?
I haven't eaten there in over a decade, so maybe it's changed, but it was one of the worst "popular" placed I'd ever eaten at.
Why aren't Marshmallows Kosher?
I just came across this and have not much to add, but I want to applaud this brilliant post.
Well done, sir or madam.
pringles stuffed potato chips
It's been a decade since I had the Israeli junk, which I admit to be terrible, but I always thought it less a chemical issue and more an over-sweeting issue, which is common with a lot of israeli nosh. Oh, and a texture issue. BLARGH.
I just don't know why anyone would ship Shoprite to Israel (or as you point out, Straus to the US), when there are better options.
Burgers Bar coming to Teaneck
One day, when my granchildren ask me what I have done for Klal Yisroel, i will tell them of this.
pringles stuffed potato chips
Ten years ago, i was in Supersol by the King David and they had an endcap with three ice cream brands- Strauss, Ben & Jerry's, and Shoprite. Someone was actually shipping that fake, chemical junk out to israel and Olim were actually *buying* it.
Ew.
Noah's Ark in Teaneck
Seconded. it's a great place for a burger made by people who know the actual difference between "well" medium" and "rare". best burgers in Teaneck and there's actual SERVICE.
Burgers Bar coming to Teaneck
We went last week and were insanely disappointed.
The beef patties were thin and the spices in them weren't really "there". The buns were dry. The thinly sliced fries, more like fresh chips, were cute, but tasted of oil instead of potato. There were a ton of them overdone as well.
The hot dogs were nothing special, but for two things: they sell a foot long dog in a normal bun, which is just odd, and not only do they not have sauerkraut, the two guys behind the counter had no idea what I was asking about. A hot dog without sauerkraut is an abomination unto Nuggan.
They did have a full set of Pepsi Jelly Glasses in a display case. That was neat. Also, staff was quick and helpful.
I can't say I'd eat there again, even on someone else's dime. I'd even rather go to (gasp) Dougies down the block if they were my only two choices (and then I'd explain ot the person why Noah's Ark should have been a choice)
Boston Pizza & More in Worcester, MA
Story I was told was original owners and new Jewish partner.
New kosher supermarket in Teaneck....opening or not?
Scratch that. They were renovating.
New kosher supermarket in Teaneck....opening or not?
Interestingly enough, they may already be closed. The doors have been closed for the last two weeks, and they have paper up so you can't see in. All the signs are still up though, and they may just be renovating. Seems strange to do so after only 6 months.
Calls to their listed number go unanswered, so don't have high hopes.
Boston Pizza & More in Worcester, MA
I just tried out a new Pizzaria in Worcester, at the insistence of the local Chabad Rabbi. I was expecting a mediocre slice, and instead had some of the best Pizza I've had outside of Rosa's. They make a thin-crust that's paper-thin and perfect. The mozzerella is great - salty but not so salty, and the sauce is mild and tasty. The non-think crust pizza is good and cheesy, not quite "deep dish" thick, but good for thick, which I usually don't casre for.
Those are all I got to try, but what i did try i loved. I'd really put it in my top five.
The address is 320 Pleasant Street, and the number is 508-363-1400. Open 10:30 AM-12:00 AM
MochaBleu in Teaneck
They don't, but it's a good angle for why to do it.
I find the Earth's Balance sticks and the like actually ape butter well...
Big Brand names going kosher
Well, if we're going to rule Haskachot out on the basis of distance, the OU certifies *lots* of stuff on the West Coast.
I mean, there may be really great reasons why this isn't acceptable, but in this day and age of subcontracting, it's hard to see distance as one.

We tried this on Sunday (11/15). They had very little available, food-wise, but they were honest about it. We went for breakfast so we just had coffee, bagels, and some pastries. The coffee was good (according to my spouse - I don't drink it). The bagels were very disappointing, but if you're going to this place for a bagel you might have other issues.
The pastries, however, were another story. Delightful, and oddly enough- pareve (non-dairy). I tried the eclairs and my friends something else, and both were great.
The prices are a bit high overall, but the pastries may be worth it. Not sure I'd go here for a casual meal though.
Kosher for Passover Coca Cola (NY Area)
Pathmark in Bergenfield has Pesach Coke for 69 cents a bottle.
Kosher Skittles
They sell them with an OU in the UK. If you know someone there, they can send you some.
