spaghetti & meatballs *not gourmet*

i have woken up with a severe craving for good old fashioned american style (i.e. red sauce) spaghetti with meatballs. i don't want to drop twenty bucks on it at some fancy italian place. just a reasonably priced delicious plate of spaghetti with meatballs and maybe some garlic bread.

preferably between canal and union square, but will travel further for excellence.

thanks in advance. i could eat it for breakfast right now!

Bagel/Cream Cheese/Lox Brunch??

where's the best place downtown (east/west villy preferably) that serves a good lox brunch, you know with the capers, onions, tomato, lemon. lox, cream cheese.

second avenue deli doen't have the cream cheese. and russ & daughters, while delicious, is not a sitdown restaurant.

much obliged. grazzi.

Soba?

Where is the best place to grab some delicious soba noodles for lunch? I live in Williamsburg and am convinced there is nowhere in this neighborhood to get any. But anywhere downtown (below 23rd or so) will do. I will travel to sate this craving.

I don't want/need a fancy place. Just a place that serves delicious soba dishes - cold & hot - to takeout or to scarf down there.

Thanks!

Good eats near Museum of Natural History?

just checked out the menu on menupages. looks good but a wee bit pricier than i'd like to spend tonight...

Good eats near Museum of Natural History?

So my gf and I are going to check out the MNH this afternoon, and thought it would be a good idea to try a restaurant up in that neck of the woods, instead of our usual east/west village, downtown haunts. But neither of us are familiar with the area, and I know that a lot of places are tourist italian places for museum goers, the lincoln center crowd, etc etc.

We'd like to goto a good, solid neighborhood joint with a good ambience and tasty eats. Cuisine doesn't matter as much as those criteria, could be ethnic or continental. Not in mood for bar food/burgers though.

Thanks much for all your reccos!

East VIllage Sliders?

My gf and I are craving sliders somewhere near her pad in the EV (too cold for travel tonight). It can either be eat in or delivery. Not feeling the Blue 9 tonight, we want sliders.

Does that even exist in the EV?

Many thanks!

Romantic, Late (11pm), Small Dishes, Good Drinks?

I am taking a very special lady to see a Broadway show this evening. I imagine it will let out around 10, 1030ish. I don't particularly want to stay in that area, in fact would rather go downtown, East Village, West Villy, etc.

Since it will be late, I don't think an app, entree, bottle of wine is in order. I am thinking more small plates and good cocktails or wine by the glass. I already took her to Tia Pol, which is actually a perfect description of the kind of place I am going for. Although, since we've already done the tapas thing, maybe something different.

Thanks in advance for your reccos, I know this is a bit of a meticulous and specific request.

Cheers!

Bachelor Party Restaurant Recos?

I need to find a place that would be fun for a group of about 15-20 guys in their early 30's for a Sat night in mid-October. Some place that is both good with beer/drinks and also some nice food. Nothing too fancy, and nothing too divey.

We considered Zum Schneider's but we dont think they'll be able to accomodate a group that size on a Sat night...

Much appreciated.

Dylan Prime or Craftsteak?

What about Strip House?

Dylan Prime or Craftsteak?

I have a rezzy for 8pm tonight at Smith & Woll's. I am going with a good buddy for a sort of night on the town if you will, we are early 30's, male. After reading about the dark suit, overrated, overpriced, gray haired, pooor ambience at S&W I am having second thoughts.

DP or Craftsteak seems like it may be more in line with the tone we are going for, but accross this board, menupages, etc the reviews range wildly from disastrous to the best meal of my life.

Come on folks, can I just get a fair and honest take on these places? I ain't expecting the best meal of my life, and if we have to drop 2-3 bills, so be it. We want great steai, great atmosphere.

Cheers!

Food/Sake and baseball?

I wanted to report back because I did indeed goto Hagi. Awesome perfect choice, so thanks so much squid. Ate a bunch of yakitori (alligator, chicken skin, pork belly) and eel tempura (delicious), daikon radish which was sublime, pork dumplings, asaparagus with bacon, and maybe a few other things.

We did have to wait about 15 minutes, but no biggy. We were hoping for bar seats by the big screen, but instead we got a 2-top right behind the bar area, perfect.

Drank two pitchers of Sapporo and a bottle of some dry and fruity sake. Including tip we each dropped anout 70 bucks. Def pricey for ballgame watching versus the usual wings and cheap beer pitchers, but well worth for the experience and qualify.

Best steakhouse...

I am sure this is a topic that has been coverred ad nauseum on here, but I need to make a rezzy for Thurs night for a party of 2. It doesn't need to be romantic, it's an important dinner I am having with my business partner.

When I read the reviews on here and menupages, they all seem to range from terrible to "the absolute best", the conflicting reports are confusing.

Should I just goto Smith & Wolls? Or try something like Palm Too or Old Homestead?

Cheers!

Food/Sake and baseball?

Awesome, thanks! Do I need a rezzy or will I be ok showing up with 1 or 2 friends at around 7pm?

Foodie Food + Watch Baseball?

Looking for some places to accomplish both goals. There are no other requirements.

Gracias.

Food/Sake and baseball?

I have a friend in town who is both a foodie and diehard Yankees fan. I am supposed to find somewhere for tonight that will absolutely be showing the Yanks/Sox game, as well as serve good food.

I saw Sakagura and Sake Bar Hagi on the Bourdain show a few weeks ago, and I seem to recall seeing TV's. Are either a good spot to fill both criteria?

If no, I would really appreciate some recommendations. Many thanks in advance! Let's Go Mets :)

Meatloaf Sandwich

I have had an intense craving for a meatloaf sandwich for about two weeks now. I really know of no good options in Manhattan. I work in Tribeca/Chinatown, so reccos down there would be ideal, but I'll hop a subway if necessary if the quality is right. Years ago I used to eat one from Boston Market when I lived in Boston, and it was, believe it or not, quite good.

Thanks much!

Saigon Bakery has the #1 Banh Mi

based on this board's recco's, and my recent fascination with banh mi (only ever had nicky's in the east village), i took a brisk walk today from my office in tribeca to saigon on mott. there was a line of about 5 people in front of me, not too bad. everyone seemed to be ordering "one spicy". i tried an unspicy pork, and an unspicy chicken. for the record, one sandwich is more than enough (and believe you me, i eat). the pork was absolutely delicious. i tasted the chicken which was good, but not as good, and brought the remainder back to my office for a coworker. he seemed to enjoy while wolfing it down in about 43 seconds.
i'll def be back for the pork, at $3.75, you really can't beat this for a tasty lunch.
