Sigh. Boston restaurants, PLEASE learn some common sense when it comes to social media

They were probably replying using a phone or a similar device. It's hard to punctuate properly when trying to type on those wee screens.

Irish Breakfast on Marathon route?

Try Crossroads at the corner of Beacon & Mass ave. It's near the route, plenty of tellys, and the grub is OK. I haven't had the Irish breakfast there in a few years, but from what I remember, it was pretty decent.

What's the best Irish Breakfast around?

I haven't eaten at the Burren in years, last time I wasn't very impressed (but I didn't have the breakie).

What's the best Irish Breakfast around?

Both the Pig and the Druid do a great Irish. The Druid's is a bit more authentic, and the pub does have more of an auld Irish pub feel.

The Druid's sausages are traditional Irish links, probably Galtee and they do lovely crispy fried spuds and really wonderful crispy sunny side up eggs and baked beans.

The Pig's sausages are Jumbo sausages which the chef often butterflys which I don't like and have never seen in Ireland (plus I think it affects the taste). And they usually do scrambled eggs and not fried eggs, and no baked beans, but they do use Iggy's bread. :)

Parking near the Pig on a Sunday afternoon might be a lot easier that in Inman Sq (unless they're a big show at the MFA).

Best Boston Burger

Charlies? I had a burger there last summer and it was the thinnest burger I've had in years. I asked for it medium well and it was still cold in the middle. It reminded me of a badly done Pour House burger (and they're not great but cheap). Has the chef or kitchen changed since then?

The best burger I've had recently was at the Beehive. It was fairly big, the burger and the bun were perfectly sized, and it was cooked as I requested it (medium well), and it was tender and moist. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, I actually think it was better than the burger at Coda.

Dining in the in-between places (Dublin to Galway to Giant's Causeway, back to Dublin)

The Skipper's Tavern in Burtonport does really good seafood. Sometimes the tables are a bit sticky, and the service amateur but cute, but they're food is good and they have a nice pint of Guinness.

B-Side to be sold? Say it ain't so

I was talking to one of the staff there and they were saying it's changing hands too, but didn't know what will happen to place.

I just hope the staff and the ambiance doesn't change (too much), and we don't end up with some generic chain instead (imagine a CVS there!). However, the last few times I eat brunch there (last year) I didn't think it was up to the B-Side's usual standards and was so disappointed that I haven't eaten there since. But, the drinks are still great, and the lads at the bar are the coolest barmen about.

Long Live the B-Side.

breakfast pizza?

Woody's on Hemingway had a breakfast pizza last time I eat brunch there about 3 months ago. It had cheese, eggs, and bacon, I don't remember if it had any veggies.

Fabulous, inexpensive 40th bday party

This isn't downtown but close, but the The Muddy bar at MIT is available for private receptions, cheap to rent, and the beer and wine prices are ridiculously cheap. It's not the most ambient spot inside, but it's in an amazing old building (the Walker Building) and you could have food catered, and if you bring CD's they'll play 'em or a CD with mp3's.

Here's the location: http://web.mit.edu/muddy/location.html pop over someday for a beer/wine and see what you think, it is open to the public.

Two Nights in Boston - Need great beer and grub?

And there's the Squealing Pig out near there too, with some of the cheapest prices in imported beers, and quite good bar food. The beer list isn't as big as the Publick House, but it's quite extensive and a fair bit cheaper and the food might even be a bit cheaper.

And Deep Ellum's food is (or was last time I went) somewhat better than Redbones.

Two Nights in Boston - Need great beer and grub?

By the time he drives there, goes past Kenmore square and find an intersection where he can make a turn he could have walked there. My advise is; Boston is small enough to walk, or T it and get a taxi back, and then you can really enjoy the beer to it's fullest! ;)

Where have you always had a bad meal?

I was just there for the 1st time on Sat night was under-impressed with what I ordered; a decent chicken burger but in a bland roll with soft squishy fries.

what is the best falafel in Boston?

Cafe Jaffa ain't bad, I live just around the corner from there, and their falafel is better than Steves, but I'd still vote for FK. However, Jaffa has a bar, and tables, and wait staff, and FK is a take-out counter.

what is the best falafel in Boston?

Sultan's does some great food indeed, but I have to give the nod to FK as they're cheaper and just have that "ugh what is this place, wow the food's really good" ambiance. Plus, it's the first place I tried Falafel where I actually liked it.

food near Bank of America Pavilion

There used to be a real shortage of places near there, but that's changed in recent years, but in order of proximity you have:
Yankee Lobster Fish Market, casual, and they do take out. Almost next door.
LTK (Legal Test Kitchen), casual with the feel of swish lounge. About 3 min walk.
Morton's. Fancy Steak House. About 5 min walk.

If your looking for something different or fancy you might be better to go somewhere downtown and catch a taxi over for the show (as the Silver Line will be packed if it's close to show time). If you don't know Boston don't bother driving around downtown as your bound to get lost or won't be able to get parked anywhere.

Dublin/Galway

Ard Bia is upstairs from Neachtains (Naughtons in English):
http://www.ardbia.com

Decent grub was there last time I was Galway for dinner one night, good grub in a rustic boutique type setting. And I think the lunch menu in Neachtains is from Ard Bia.

However, many of the places on the same section of the street (Quay Street) are touristy and seem a bit overpriced for the grub they offer. Galway City is a nice town, well worth spending a least a day or two there.

Wanted: Authentic German Food!!!

Do people really think Jacob Wirth's is that bad? I've been there recently and thought the Sauerbraten was really good. However, I hadn't been there in about 4 years after a fairly awful lunch one day with co-workers.

Downtown Boston This Weekend

If your at the Waterfront Westin, the kids might get a kick out of the Barkin' Crab. They do reasonable seafood, with iutdoor style seating on big picnic benches.

Help a Brit for Thanksgiving

I think you'll find that a Thanksgiving dinner is very much like a traditional English (or in my case Irish) Christmas dinner, with the possible choice of Yams as a veggie option and the addition of Pumpkin Pie for desert! ;)

As someone else said, Charles Sandwich Shoppe is a good choice for breakfast if it's open. Otherwise, Steve's Greek on Hereford, a 2 minute walk from your hotel, could be a (not as good) alternative. If all else fails most of the hotels do decent, but expensive, breakfast or brunch.

I'd 2nd the choice of Eastern Standard for dinner, I've haven eaten there yet, but have only heard good things about it. And it close enough walk to, and just far enough to walk off Thanksgiving Dinner!

Enjoy.

Dinner Near Boston Sheraton?

I'd 2nd Coda, from the Sheraton you can do a nice walk throught the Christian Science Church's grounds and around the big reflecting pool, down West Newton Street, then a right onto the South End Corridor (a greenway walk) that'll take you to Dartmouth Street around the corner from Coda. Or head another block to Delux on Chandler street (for cheapish eats and drinks).

Or walk over via the Fens in Fenway to Trattoria Toscana on Jersey Street for decent Italian.

Caffe Jaffa ain't bad either and you can stroll down Newbury Street afterwards. It's not the best Middle-Eastern food I've had, but it's decent enough.

If you want the big chain experience, there is a new PF Chang's that opened around the corner from the hotel (where Marche used to be).

Or if you want to make a night of it, head to Bob's the Chef's for not too bad BBQ//Southern style food and jazz (get there and leave early if you want to avoid the cover charge) then head to Wally's around the corner for free Jazz.

Restaurants in the Caroga Lake/Fulton County Area?

Looking for recommendations for restaurants near the Caroga Lake area. We're up visiting here all the time and tend to frequent Pine Lake Lodge in Caroga, or Saltsmans in Ephratah (or Fort Plain) and would like to try some new friendly good places for brunch, lunch, or dinner.

We don't stray to far as we've been to just a few too many places that seem ambivalent to non-locals or where the meals have been some combination of over-priced and/or awful.

Caroga Lake is about an hour north-west of Amsterdam, NY and is close to Gloversville & Johnstown, and not too far from Dolgeville & Little Falls. If your up visiting try the 2 places I mentioned above and Pine Lake has good ice cream stand. :)

Hmm, the link below to Saltsmans is wrong and I can't remove it?

Sligo, Ireland help! [Moved from International board]

The North West and the Sligo Forums at boards.ie might be of help.

If you have a car, head down to Coxtown Manor in County Donegal, it's near the village of Ballintra and the hamlet of Bridge Town. Supposed to be really good food.

I'm afraid I've no recommendations for Sligo, except for the Yeats Tavern which is horribly touristy but surprisingly has a nice Belgian Lambic beer in stock.

County Sligo (and Donegal) is quite beautiful, I hope you have fun! :)

Can we talk about Durgin Park?

I worked near there for a while in 2006. And in the winter, when there are few tourists about, I found Durgin Park to be a good place for a inexpesive lunch. $7.95 for Yankee Pot Roast with spuds & veg and a piece of corn bread.
