Earl's Restaurant in Toronto?
But Earls at Square One opened in April (Official opening July 31)
JKWB to take reservations: Hallelujah !
Does this mean the entire area is going to be serviced by the existing JKWB open kitchen or will the back room be used to cook for those in the old restaurant space?
Los Somberos(Scottsdale) sold
Jeff was in Atlanta about 2 months. Sala was sold by the Fifth Group about June 2006 and it is no longer Sala.
The Fifth...(another long one from me)
In my experiece J.P. is one of the most over-rated chefs in Toronto. Bouchon was good for the first few weeks and then went completely down hill. Le Select was not well-served by his cooking, and the list goes on...
Challenge: Most elegant restaurant in Toronto
I would also probably be considered "old school" (certainly "old" fits) but I would not consider Splendido too "hip". Mother will be very impressed when they bring out the wee bench for her purse (as will father if he has one).
Challenge: Most elegant restaurant in Toronto
I love Opus but I would not necessarily consider it to have the intimate atmosphere you are looking for. Rosewater is a good suggestion although its food is not up to Opus. Scaramouche can be quite busy. I would consider Splendidio - great food, great service and a fitting atmosphere.
Far Niente vs. Toula
I have been to both - but not in the past year. In my experience Far Niente has far superior food. I found that the kitchen at Toula did not produce a product up to the costs involved. Toula does have a great site and you may want to consider drinks at their bar and then take off to Far Niente for dinner - if it is a nice night it's not that far to walk (or a short cab ride).
What should have happened (at Caren's Wine Bar)?
I have never owned a restaurant but if this were my restaurant I would probably not have charged for the salad with the hope I would get its value back in repeat business. However, as a long-time diner I expect to pay for what I eat so if I ended up eating (and enjoying) the salad I would feel I should pay for it.
Ghali Kitchen Open!!
Sorry, I am a bit confused (easy to do) - is Ghali back in its original location? If so, I guess this means the place he opened on Queen W. is closed.
What to choose: Opus, Modo, Tundra?
I agree with 18 (for once). Opus is for me a consistently fine dining experience. Good food, wine and service. (I have not dined at Modo.)
Archeo in Distillery District?
You might be right I think the site originally was 1832 Restaurant, then Distillery Canteen and now Archeo
Le Select or Niagara Street Cafe?
I would definitely go with Niagara Street Cafe. My experiences at Le Select (which is a fine looking venue) have lead me to believe that in order to maintain the prices of their meals they are using less than top quality raw materials.
Csarda Restaurant, Toronto
I am sure you are right, I believe the Elm Street site closed almost 10 years ago. Before Elm Csarda was at a number of other locations, I remember 2 on Bay.
The Charlotte Room?
Hopefully you will get some replies from readers who have been there more recently than I have. I have been there many times back when I was playing pool regularly and I ate there often. I like the room, good atmosphere for pool and casual eating. At that time they did not have many sit down tables and typically I would eat from one of the stand up tables while playing pool. I never had any complaints about the food - I found it more than decent, but this could have changed.
Spice Room - Review
At least people go to his restaurants, Some chefs can't get people to go to their restaurants because of the product. The best meal I ever had in this city (and that's a lot of dinners) was produced by Greg Couillard.
Globe & Mail Reviews Calgary's Saint Germain, River Cafe and Capo
ChefDb had Noble consulting to La Boheme in the period (2006-2006). I believe he provided some help with the menu but La B. will not likely be his new home.
La Blecchia
Aurora Stranges is still shown as the Chef on La Vecchia Website (under Menu).
Wanda's Pie in the Sky -- still there?
Wanda's in Yorkville closed last year. I believe Wanda's in the Kitchen is still open at 1057 Mount Pleasant.
Nectar restaurant
According to ChefDb, Nectar is being transformed into Marben - to open in March. Looks like the same owner as Nectar.
