Where can I find sawara sushi in/near hollywood?

I had it at a sushi place in calabasas and can't find it anywhere nearby :(

Hollywood Area food shopping, retail seafood and restaurants

I've been living in Hollywood forever (Western/Franklin) and don't know too many places as I'm always in West LA. However I can tell you that Palms (Thai) on Hollywood Blvd (with the Thai Elvis) is Yummy. It's open late and can get crowded. You can order for pickup.
Another place that I love is Vivoli (Italian) Sunset Blvd http://www.vivolicafe.com/ Great italian. Don't be put off by the fact that it's in a shopping center. It's very nice and elegant inside. I am NEVER disappointed when I go there!

Babita's?

Yes!!!
I'm planning on making a trip real soon for Chiles en nogada. But they always have yummy specials of the day, so unfortunately I don't remember the name of the dishes. Oh Pescado Picado is a really good dish if you don't mind spicy ;)

Definately worth the drive...for appetizers, try the sope sammy or the stuffed chiles with strawberries are really good too! The chocolate flan is good, last time I went I had a very lovely chocolate cake.
I would say it's casual, I went once and their was only two other people there..I've never had a problem with parking.
Enjoy!

Yeah sorry!

Need First Date Option in Hollywood

i think I replied to the wrong one...here goes again...

Vivoli cafe is an awesome italian place hidden in a shopiing center across from the laugh factory. I seriously think it's the best. However the only way your going to pull out an $80 bill is if you 1. take your own bottle of wine - $10 corkage 2. If one of you orders pasta, the vodka sauce pasta is pretty good! They have an awesome meat dish there it's pork medallions with strawberries and a balsamic vinegar reduction that's pretty amazing!

Oh and I forgot to add the first time, I think it's definately a nice romantic place for a date...make reservations!

Echigo is pretty good but a little on the expensive side. But the Toro and crab roll is awesome and my BF says he loves the monkfish liver there. Bill will likely be over $100 depending on what kind of sushi you like...

If you're looking for the traditional sushi I would definately try Hide it's on sawtelle. They serve really big pieces for a really reasonable price. They do have a few rolls and sushi such as Amaebi and monkfish likver if that's what you like. You can definately eat til your full and spend less than $100 including drink.

I like the spicy crispy tuna there...and the miso sea bass but the sushi I wasn't overly enthusiastic about.

Informal poll: Best Mexican in the LA area

If valet is your complaint then maybe you should be eating at a restraunt in Hollywood.
Babita's generally not a place to take children. It's very tiny and the food may take long because there's one waitress and one chef.
I've been there in groups of nine and didn't have a problem because we know it's well worth the wait. Plus they have awesome appitizers like the gueritos rellenos, yellow chile stuffed with ceviche with a strawberry glaze.
I don't know how you could say that place was "fine"....
To me that place is well worth the wait and I'm happy it's such a small place because it's likely going to be there for a long time!

Informal poll: Best Mexican in the LA area

I too love Babita's the best mexican cuisine by far!

There's another place I like to go to in the area, it's more so Oaxacan though. They make lobster enchiladas that are awesome, and a margarita that really will knock you on your ass!

Tlapazola Grill

I know of a really good fast food mexican place in the area, right next to the strip club! They make homemade tortillas. I have yet to try their fancier plates such as shrimp a diablo however they're Birria (Goat in a red chile sauce) us pretty good!

As far as taco trucks I haven't come across any good ones in the area. There are two really good ones in eagle rock off of eagle rock blvd, right before york blvd. Ramboo's has really good carne asada and Leo's has really good carnitas and al pastor. I don't think they're out there til about7-8 though.

Best CHEESECAKE in LA?

AGREE! Amazing cheesecake...the decor is nothing special, just a guy behind a counter with a dry ease board with the flavors availible for the day, it's take out only but don't be fooled they have the best cheesecake I've had by far....I used to LOVE Rick's dessert diner in Sacramento http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2836562-rick_s_dessert_diner_sacramento-i and thought I'd never find a comporable place in LA until I found Harriets. The BBQ next door is very good too!

What makes LA a foodie city? Tell Me

Agree, it's a good spot if your in the area...speaking of, if you want to die for cheesecake try Harriets cheescake in West LA (310) 419-2259 (closed Sundays and Mondays).

great pizza in west l.a - yes. it's true.

I think Abbot's is average, maybe above average at most. I have tried the BBQ and another w goat cheese and veggies. I really LOVE Victor Jr's Pizza I garlic spinach and chicken is a great combo! Anyone tried, have recommendations? I've been eager to try their lasagna...too bad it's closed on the weekends (

Good Value Pinot Noir

Agree, Meridian is a well rounded Pinot for the price. I believe wine enthusiast gave it a 86 or 88.
