Lunch in Central New Jersey

Need help finding place to meet old friend for lunch between Caldwell and Dayton NJ. Looking for a place for good salads and sandwiches. Also a place where you can sit awhile and talk.

Nantucket-High End

I am still daydreaming about Lo La 41 on Beach Street. We were there in September for our anniversary and the food was great. Only open for dinner and you will need a reservation, the place is hopping.

Fore Street Menu?

Fore Street serves local meat, fish and seafood and veggies. All simply and well prepared. Food is prepared in an open kitchen were you can see the action. Many meals are prepared in a pan or in their wood fired oven. This is a top quality restaurant, I have never had a bad meal here. The mussels appetizer is excellent. I have been there only in the summer, and the salads are excellent. We have always enjoyed the tuna and salmon. My son had an amazing pork chop. I would say it is less expensive than other top restaurants in major cities. Make a reservation, you will not be disappointed.

Tofu a Go-Go, Greenfield

I finally made it to Tofu A Go-Go and was not disappointed. The food was great. Of course I had to have the Crack Tofu appetizer and I just loved it, moist with little crunch. The Giant Rodan was excellent. The rice, beans, miso soup, greens, veggies and seaweed were fresh and well prepared and not overly salty. My husband had the Pink Pierogies (appetizer) made with red cabbage and served with vegan sour cream. He also had the Really Good Burrito Dinner which lived up to it's name. Really fresh and well prepared and not overly salty (I know I am repeating myself, but most places over salt everything). I also like that they don't use processed meat substitutes, these people really know how to cook vegan food. There were so many good things on the menu, it was hard to choose. They also had a $20 3 course meal special for Valentine's Day. The owners are really nice and eager to please. It was great to be around so many happy vegetarians. "Honey, we are not in Hopkinton any more!"

Good Eats in Lakeville, Ct

Traveling to Lakeville, CT for a swim meet. Looking for a dinner place, really wanted to go to Pastorale, but it is closed that week. Looking for really fresh and well prepared food, not fancy or rich sauces. One of us is Vegetarian. Also need a place for big lunch after Trials and before Finals.

Dining and Carry-out near Vassar

We are traveling to Vassar with our daughter's college swim team and other parents for a weekend swim meet later in January. We are looking for good and interesting places to eat. Good take-out for the team. Great sandwiches to take out for lunch. Would also like some choices for Vegans. Would appreciate input from locals and others that frequent the area. Thanks.

Portland Blue Spoon- Great!

I love the Blue Spoon and try to get there everytime we go to Portland. I love the vegetarian entrees. The food is always very fresh and well prepared. The wines are good and inexpensive. I have never been disappointed.

Good Eats in Simsbury, CT

Thank you to all who responded. Over the last six weeks we a visited quite a few restaurants in the Simsbury/Avon area. We had a fantastic meal at Metro Bis. The food wine and service was excellent. The food was beautifully prepared and really good. The salads were fantastic. My husband enjoyed his pork chop. It was perfect for Parents' Weekend. We have been back to Harvest for breakfast and still very good. (no flies this time!). Last night we went to Meadow. We really liked the selection and variety. There were good vegetarian choices and the food came out really hot. (I like that). They had an $8 Summer Sauvignon Blanc that was very good. We have been to Plan B for lunch, that was fun also. My husband enjoyed his burger. I liked my veggie burger, not frozen and reheated, but homemade. We liked Max a Mia, it has reliable food, but has a corporate feel. But the food was good, we had a nice evening. We did enjoy Sakimura also. It seems that we picked a good place for our son to go to school. We are looking forward to 4 years of good eats in Simsbury!

Tofu a Go-Go, Greenfield

I am always envious of places that cater to vegans and vegetarians. Living in Metrowest Boston, it can be difficult to eat out. It must be empowering to actually have choices! And not be a pain in the neck when you ask so many questions about how food is prepared. Next time I am out in that area I will definitely eat there.

Good Eats in Simsbury, CT

The food at the Harvest Cafe is good. But I have to tell you that my husband admitted to me today that there was a fly imbedded in his homefries....I wasn't going to say anything...but now I have to.

Newport, RI

For breakfast, my favorites are the Atlantic Grill in Middletown, near 1st beach. We also like Norey's and Corner Cafe on Broadway. Also on Broadway, the Salvation Cafeis fun and not very expensive. I have only been there for dinner. Sardella's on Memorial is good.Tucker's Bistro on Broadway. I like the Mooring for Lunch.

Good Eats in Simsbury, CT

It is not so much that we didn't like those breakfast places, because the food was good. We would probably go back for that reason. So I am not sure I would like to give a bad review just based on that. I would just prefer to eat in cleaner places.

Good Eats in Simsbury, CT

We will be visiting our son who goes to school in Simsbury about once a week. We are looking for some good local places, do not have to be fancy or expensive. We have tried two recommended breakfast places and have found the food to be good, but the restaurant to dirty in both cases (sort of a turn off). I have a reservation at Metro Bis for parent's weekend and we are planning to try Max a Mia tonight. Also, one of us is vegetarian. Any suggestions?

Sunday in Newport, RI (breakfast and lunch)

Our favorite is the Atlantic Grill between 1st and 2nd beach in Middletown. Totally worth the short drive. In town we like the Corner Cafe on Broadway and Norey's also on Broadway.
