Pre-theater dining near Arena Stage
Station 4 is fine. It's a pretty space with a great patio, just steps from Arena Stage. I live near there, and enjoy it.
HELP!! Trying to find an certain kind of restaurant/bar in NoVa or DC
Bar at Black Jack - upstairs from Pearl Dive. Bocci Court (with stadium seats for observing), a repurposed cigarette machine that dispenses small works of art for $5, movies playing on a rough brick wall...tons of interesting features in a very cool space.
New Year's Eve Dinner in DC
Lost Society might fit the bill. it's at 14th and U, easily metro accessible.
French bistro recommendations in DC and VA
I think La Chaumiere is cozy, inviting and delicious. Pike Quenelles...YUM...but it is not a bistro. No lively bar, for example. But i've always enjoyed the food and service, especially during the winter. The center fireplace is lovely. I like Bistro Cacao and Bistro LaBonne, but the food at La Chaumiere is superrior.
Gourmet Ethiopian?
NO. I just called them and they are open. Website fully operational. OPEN.
Spiciest Ethiopian dishes?
Perhaps a fair generalization, but our food at Ethiopic WAS spicy, and that was OP's request. So let's share it when it happens.
Spiciest Ethiopian dishes?
During our last visit to Ethiopic we mentioned that we like very spicy food. We ordered the Butcha appetizer (cold chick peas) which had good heat from a lot of jalapenos. The Sega Key Wot was also prepared as "very spicy." I know there was a third dish but I can't remember. I think the heat levels would definitely be enough for someone seeking a heat thrill. Plus, it's a cute place in a very hot area. You can make a reservation, which I would recommend for a Friday or Saturday night.
Station 4 (Near Arena Stage)
The atmosphere is really nice. Service was good, too. Food is uneven. The zucchini appetizer was very tasty. Burger was fine. Other dishes were not memorable. I would definitely give it a shot as I suspect it will get better over time. It is a very short walk to the theater, which is great, especially is you travel by metro.

Eataly To Open In DC During 2012
My dream is that this will be part of the new development at The Wharf, at the SW Waterfront. There is also lots of space around Navy Yard. Either would be awesome!
Cheap places near National Harbor
Please know that there is no metro at or near National Harbor. You have to get a water taxi or shuttle to someplace else (Old Town Alexandria) and then walk to a metro to get into DC. While this is feasible, it is time-consuming and tedious. If you don't have a whole day free, I would suggest staying in Old Town for meals. If you search on this board for "Old Town Alexandria" you should find lots of choices. By the time you figure in taxi fees, etc. you may find that getting out of National Harbor is expensive, regardless of the meal price.
The Standard - 14th St. DC
I love this place and think the prices are fair, especially in that neighborhood. Personally, I think the sandwiches are large (I guess size is relative!) and so agree on the onion rings. YUM. It has a wonderful neighborhood feel, and I hope it can succeed. Wonder what will happen in winter?
Dinner or Dinner/Drinks in or Near SW Waterfront?
'Zackly. I would normally suggest anything on the SW circulator bus route, from Rasika and Oyamel to Corduroy and Acadiana, because the circulator bus deposits you right at the boats. But on Cinco de Mayo? No way. But we SW folks are patient, and apparently there is a new place from the Tunnicliff's folks that is in progress just across from the SW waterfront metro station. So, soon, we will have an option for Arena stage, for the cruise boats, and for US RESIDENTS!!!!

Dinner or Dinner/Drinks in or Near SW Waterfront?
I would consider Sou'wester in the Mandarin Oriental. I believe that business casual would be just fine, and you're a very short cab ride to the cruise boarding (actually, you can walk). I love Cantina Marina for casual drinks, but the food is not great, even for bar food. I suspect it will be packed on Cinco de Mayo, unlike Sou'wester which is likely to avoid the entire "holiday." Seriously, there's not much in that area...yet...

Lunch recommendations for next Sunday in DC?
If Rasika is not available, check with their sister restaurant, Bombay Club, near the White House. The serve a Sunday buffet normally; not sure of the offering on Mother's Day. It's a great buffet, and the space is elegant but not stuffy. It's not buzzy, but it does have outdoor seating.

dupont circle easter brunch?
Staff at Tabard mentioned Saturday that brunch is often booked solid a month in advance, so Easter may be a non-starter. Call them before you get to attached to Tabard as an option.
Dupont Circle dinner with rowdy academics
I like all these places, but I don't think Agora or Regent Thai would appreciate rowdy academics (said as an occasional rowdy academic). Bistrot du Coin could easily handle this group. Outdoor patio at Sette Osteria would probably accommodate, too.

Cajun / Creole food in DC?
This made me smile - I'm from New Orleans and the "south of I-10" claim certainly is true! Acadiana's boiled crawfish are pretty good, but pricey.

DC Food Blitz Starting this Sunday! Am I doing it right?
Have you tried Masala Art? It's an easier reservation and very, very delicious. So convenient to Tenleytown metro, too, if you don't have a car. I think it's my favorite Indian food now.

DC Food Blitz Starting this Sunday! Am I doing it right?
Just my two cents worth, but there are better choices than Sonoma for lunch. What about any of the Ethiopian places, Brasserie Beck, Acadiana, Jaleo, Zaytinya...unless you need to be in that part of town I just don't think Sonoma is a solid option. I would also substitute Dino. Rasika or Bombay Club for Founding Farmers. Dino's sourcing, etc. is what FF CLAIMS to be, and there are some amazing deals to be had on Sunday. You can't go wrong with Palena or Corduroy.

Bombay Club vs Rasika
Merzi is fine for what it is - a faster food version of Indian. If you order well, you can eat well here. The Tandisserie chicken is great, served on the chick peas. Ask for the hottest sauce they have. It's made to be healthier than traditional Indian, and therefore doesn't taste as rich, but it hits the spot when you want to be kind to your waist and wallet.

Ping Pong Dim Sum?
Pork buns were OK, but the food is underwhelming and overpriced. I didn't find the drinks especially exciting, either. I can't find a reason to return.
outdoor dining
Acadiana has a great patio, and it has Friday crawfish boils in the spring.
Dino has outdoor seating, though it's only open for lunch/brunch on Sundays, I believe.
Islander Carribbean on U Street has a small patio that can be a lot of fun.
In the spring Zaytina's outdoor area opens.
Vinoteca, but it's not open for lunch (correct?)

DC recos near Marriot Wardman Park
Afghan Grill, on Calvert just a short walk from your hotel, on the second floor of a building housing a nail salon, is tasty. Don't think it would be a big destination for CPAC folks. If you continue on Calvert over the bridge into Adams Morgam, Mama Ayesha's is on the left just over the bridge. Neither get lots of love on these boards, but both offer good food at reasonable prices without any nod toward tourists.
