Cooking with grape seed flour

Has anyone tried cooking with wine grape seed flour? I saw some for sale and was curious if it added a flavor to breads or muffins.

Funniest Thing a Server Said to You

At a pizza joint in New Jersey, we asked the waitress about the chef's special listed on the chalkboard. She stares at the board for a minute, then screeches back into the kitchen, "What's on this ******* chef special?" A Yogi Bear sounding voice yells back, "How the #### do I know?"
"Well $$$$, you the ******* chef ain't ya?" "I'm a &&&&&&&&&&& cook, not a chef!" She turns to us and sweetly says, "We've sold out of the chef's special, how about the sausage?"

What's the weirdest or most awful wine you've ever tasted?

A relative gave us some Tennessee tomato wine. It was like the ketchup had gone bad and someone added window cleaner to cover the taste!

Which Chains Do You Respect?

If local chains count, Burgerville has ruined eating at national chains for me. (Exception being Chick-Fil-A)

Ideas for Passover 2011 new products

I agree! Also, more awareness of the needs of people with medical problems. Too much is still full of sugars. fats, salt and chemicals. When we're at home we make our own salad dressings, mayo, soups, etc.. but if you're not able to do this, off the shelf foods can really mess up dietary restrictions.

Tacoma -- Dining Near the Hotel Murano

I'll second weeklyvolcano's suggestions. The last 2 times we were in Tacoma, we really enjoyed our dinners at Twokoi.

Slugburgers

We went to White Trolley for lunch and I gave the slugburger a try. It's not something I'll add to my regular menu, but I didn't have any trouble finishing it.
We did enjoy the White Trolley, everyone there was friendly, fast and attentive. (Everyone we met in Corinth was friendly and helpful) Good diner selection along with some traditional southern standards. I can see why it's standing room only for lunch. If you're ever in Corinth, give them a try.

Slugburgers

We're going to be in Corinth, MS next week and are thinking about trying slugburgers. Anyone have recommendations? Also, my SIL has begged me to bring her some, what would be the best way to pack them for a 2 hour car trip?

In search of buttermilk in Costa Rica

I know we could use the old milk & lemon juice or vinegar trick. I'm just curious - do they use buttermilk in local cooking? Could I find it in the markets?
We practically had a scavenger hunt for wheat flour, but I wish USA supermarkets had employees this helpful!

here's a challenge - write food-oriented lyrics for a favorite song...

Thanks folks, now I'll be hearing Weird Al songs in my head all night!

Tucson for Passover

mscaroline, thanks for the tips, we managed to get everything needed. It was a scrumptious meal. My FIL is a great cook and has now ruined us for future Passover Seders. (and this was his first K for P meal!)
We usually go on line to find our KP wines. I think AZ may restrict internet wine purchases, but a local wine shop might be able to order something for you.
Enjoy the rest of the Holiday!

Tucson for Passover

We'll be in Tucson, AZ for some of Passover.
Any helpful hints on the best stores or delis to pick up some food & wine?

Do bulk bins every get cleaned?

As a mechanic's kid that drove cars like that, I can honestly say "Yes!"
You must occasionally perform oil changes to help get rid of the debris and broken down oil before it damages the engine. It also gives you the chance to check for other problems.
Back on topic, I stick to the gravity fed dispensers, not only to reduce the chance of cross contamination, but they tend to hold less and get refreshed more often than the oil drum sizes.

Twelve pounds of oranges... now what?

How about keeping a pound or two for your family and giving the rest to a local food bank or soup kitchen?

What do you put on your bagel?

It drives my Yankee husband nuts that I put a "see through" layer of cream cheese on my bagel! I used to think he was joking about it until we were in NYC. When the waiter saw all of cream cheese left on my plate, he asked if it had gone bad and when I said that's how I liked my bagel, I got quite the stink eye.

Brown sugar too dry to use?

I ended up getting new sugar. The strange bit was - it wasn't hard or lumpy, just dry.
I had trouble getting it to pack together. And, hey, if the weather forecast is accurate, I can use the old stuff for traction on my walk.
Thanks for the replies, I learn something from this site every time I log on.

Brown sugar too dry to use?

I'm making chocolate chip cookies and just discovered that the brown sugar is very, very dry.
Can I add some extra moisture (what kind & how much)? Dump it and run to the store?
Thanks

things you put ketchup on

A cafeteria 'chef' I briefly worked for put huge globs of it on salad instead of dressing.
The thought still makes me shudder!

deviled eggs

A gross as it sounds, a packet of dried onion soup mix could be the secret. I worked at a deli that added it to the recipe. The dried onion bits couldn't be seen, but you occasionally crunched on one.

Homemade Fudge Question

I think it's hilarious that the recipe on the eagle brand web site doen't list serving size or calories! Maybe it should just say, "If you have to ask, don't bother"

Lunch in Martin, TN

We had the luck to stay near Sassafras, so we tried it. Nice place, good service. They didn't have any problems with our questions and happily altered a dish for my husband.
The food itself was very good and all we cleaned our plates despite having walked in saying "I'm not too hungry, maybe just a salad".
Give it a try next time you visit.

Sour cream in recipe

A cake recipe I'd like to try uses sour cream, do I add it cold from the fridge or let it warm up a little first? Same qustion goes for the icing, does too cold ruin the mix?
Thanks

What's cookin' in Ybor City?

Second that! We went for dinner back in May. The food was freshly prepared, the staff (and other customers) friendly. We loved the casual style, but if you're expecting dining with a capital D, look elsewhere.

Lunch in Martin, TN

Anyone know of someplace in or near Martin, Tn where we can take our niece for lunch?
She graduates this Saturday (Dec. 15, 2007) and doesn't seem to have any opinon other than "not getting your food through a window".

Eatables near the Doug Fir

Caveat - just in case it's a problem
From their website (http://www.lepigeon.com/) -
"substitutions politely declined" & "no more than 2 methods of payment per party"
Menu looks interesting, though.

[PDX] Yom Kippur: Where to break the fast?

We're going to Mama Mia Trattoria. Husband loves the minestrone soup & garlic bread. Then over to Pix Patisserie for something decadent.

(PDX) Harold's Barbecue

Has anyone tried Harold's? It's a newish place on N. Lombard. We drove by last week, but haven't had a chance to stop by and check it out.

Earliest food memory?

Back when I was barely out of diapers my grandfather worked on the loading dock of the local newspaper. My earliest definite memory is being taught how to put Tom's peanuts in the Coke bottle without spilling them. (Also how to refold the Sunday comics so it didn't look 'used' and how to spit and which new words I couldn't say in front of Mother)
