Wonton Noodle Soup - SF Dish of the Month (April 2013) Surprised no one has brought up the wonton noodle soup at Daimo in Richmond. Although on the expensive side, I still think it is one of the better ones out there |

Koi Palace - Dragon Beard Candy Just because an item is on a "Menu" doesn't mean anything to me. Isn't the purpose of going to dimsum is to enjoy the whole sensory experience of ordering dimsum? The last thing I want to do when I go to a dim sum place is to look at some menu and check off how many of each I want. Did I see carts in KP? Yes.. but so few of them it was insignificant. To each his/her own. If you like KP, go back. I know I'll be going to other places. |

Koi Palace - Dragon Beard Candy I really don't know why so many people sing the praise for Koi Palace. Having moved up here from SoCal, I went there for the first time couple weeks back and can say this place is more hype than substance. Couple of gripes. Why are the tea-cups so small? Heck, I could barely even drink out of it. Even going on a weekend, I thought the selection was sparse, the servers were slow (why don't they use carts?), and overly priced. I thought the food itself was ok/fair.. but clearly nothing to write home about. "One of the best Chinese restaurants in the US"?? Ummm.. ever go down to L.A. to eat dim sum? Not only is it cheaper, but more selection and much higher quality. I don't understand why the dim sum places in the bay area are so much more expensive than LA. |

I had my first ramen at Santa in San Mateo this weekend. Got there 15 min BEFORE opening and there was already a line of 15+ people. Having tried Ramen Halu in San Jose a couple of weeks ago, I have a reference to compare. I tried the pork flavor ramen. The broth at Santa's is much better than Halu's, although the pork at Halu was better (I like the thinner cuts of the pork at Halu vs the thicker cut at Santa). I ordered extra noodles at both restaurants and overall I thought the noodle part of the dish at both places were pretty much even, except that Halu does definitely give you more ramen vs Santa. |

beef noodle soup at Tea Garden in FiDi Having been relocated to work in the Financial District, I'm glad that I have Chowhound as a source for more interesting food tips. Paying $6+ for a sandwich in the Financial district is just plain robbery (IMHO.. there are way too many overpriced sandwich shops in the area). I had walked by Tea Garden a couple of times, but always thought it only sold drinks. I had the pork chop w/rice. Excellent value for the $6 they charge. If the pork chops + rice don't fill you up, they also include an egg with the dish. Next time I'll have to try the beef noodle soup. Another good bang for the buck I found was in Rincon Center.. the burrito place. Pretty large sized burrito (I had steak in mine) for only $6. |

I had a craving for Singapore food this weekend, so I went to Banana Leaf one day and then to Old Time Singapore Cafe the other day (thanks to Dolcetto for the heads up on OTSC.... the Ulferts shopping center has a Loooong ways to go before more shops open up) Both days I had laksa and I was extremely impressed with OTSC. I thought the broth for the laksa at Banana Leaf was a too watery. The broth at OTSC had extremely good texture and the noodles were quite yummy. They could have added more seafood but overall I thought it was good. |
