Caterer for At-Home 60th Bday Party

Contact Ted Pace at Brandywine Caterers. Ted used to have a restaurant, Pace One, in Glen Mills. He only caters now. Talk to him about your budget ($40./person is not too bad).

New diner in Fairview Village

Thanks for the review CP. I've been hesitant to try it - admittedly an unfair bias based on previous experiences at the location's predecessors. I'll give it a shot based on your experience.

I think you know how I feel about that location. Exactly what you think. It's a poor location. I'd love to see them be successful. I just don't think that's in the cards.

where can I get a great Cheesesteak, with a menu full of stuff for everyone else?

I wasn't suggesting the pastrami cheesesteak. I was suggesting Famous 4th St. Deli if the original poster still wanted a restaurant with cheesesteaks and other options. And I am suggesting Reading Terminal Market for its multiple options and my recommended cheesesteak.

I'm going to give you another idea that some here will poo-poo. But I'm telling you I know what I'm talking about when it comes to cheesesteaks. I've been to hundreds of steak shops both here and across the country. I give cheesesteak tours to out-of-towners via other food websites. If you want a good one at a restaurant that has many, many other foods, go to Famous 4th Street Deli at 4th & Bainbridge. The cheesesteaks are very good. A bit pricey ($11.00 for a cheesesteak), but good. And they also offer a very unique one: a pastrami cheesesteak. Yes, pastrami on a cheesesteak. I can hear all of the naysayers out there reading this, but I'm telling you they do very good cheesesteaks.

Hi. Your request has gone unanswered and this thread went astray. If you end up in the Reading Terminal Market, the best stand to get a cheesesteak and, by the way, one of the best in the city, is Spataro's. You asked about wanting a cheesesteak with other options and that's a tough one. Spataro's is a superior cheesesteak. Now, if you want something near 30th Street Station and don't have a car, you can go to Abner's at 38th & Chestnut, but it's really only about steaks and cheesesteaks there. It's decent. It's just like Jim's as Abner Silver was involved with Jim's.

From The Boot opening new location

Dolce Luna's been closed since November. It's a smallish sized space. I assume that this will be an additional location for From The Boot, not a replacement.

From The Boot opening new location

I saw a sign in the window of the space that was Dolce Luna in the Whitpain Shopping Center (where Pudge's is) in Blue Bell that From The Boot is opening there soon. Anyone have any details as to when?

Are Spread bagels all that?

Just a tip: Original Bagel on West Chester Pike in Broomall is owned and run by the family that originally owned New York Bagel on Haverford Ave. at City Ave. in Overbrook Park. In my opinion, it is better than the current New York Bagel.

Suzy-Jo's Donuts

Been here many, many times and they do a nice job. I have a new favorite for doughnuts and that's Distelfink Bakery on Valley Forge Road in Lansdale. Their cream filled are to die for. I haven't gone back to Suzy Jo's since trying Distelfink this summer.

a different cheesesteak question

You don't say where you live near or where you'd be willing to travel to...
You could go to La Forno in Media, or Mama's in Bala Cynwyd, or Via Roma in Eagleville.

Between Media and Newtown Square

Very good cheesesteaks, wood fired oven pizza, and some Italian dishes: La Forno in Media on Providence Rd. (Rt. 252). Pinocchio's for pizza in Media - fun for kids, especially when they give the kids some pizza dough to play with as you wait for your pizza.
Burgers: Wimpy's on Providence Rd. (Rt. 252)

Spice Kitchen, new Indian restaurant in Trooper, PA

Givemecarbs, I hear you loud and clear. I love carbs (one look at me and you could guess that. Ugh.) and rice. Naan and dishes with rice will ease me into the world of curries and Indian specialties.
And I didn't pick my user name on a whim either - I am an Eagle Scout when it comes to cheesesteaks.

Spice Kitchen, new Indian restaurant in Trooper, PA

Thank you for your comments. I don't think my avoidance is due to a dislike of the spices used, it's mostly based on the fear of the unknown. I'm even uneasy saying that as I'm the first to try hole-in-the-wall roadfood types of places. When it comes to Indian, I had a very unsatisfactory meal many years ago and that turned me off. I went alone and probably ordered things that weren't that restaurant's best dishes. I couldn't tell you what I ordered, it was so long ago. I'll make it to Spice Kitchen and I'll re-read the reviews here. Thanks again.

Spice Kitchen, new Indian restaurant in Trooper, PA

This is practically in walking distance to my home (I'm adjacent to Fairview Village). Although I've eaten in many, many restaurants in my life, I've always avoided Indian food. As a result, I'm quite unfamiliar with the foods and am hesitant. I've always said, "I need to go with someone who knows Indian food and could be my guide." I guess I need to bite the bullet and walk through the doors - this restaurant is close as is the Dosa Chat House.

Alison Barshak Coming to Normandy Farm?

Thanks for all of the replies and information. I knew I'd get good information here. I was making a leap and thought the image represented a girl on a horse, a cowgirl, and not a farm girl.

You guys are the best!

Alison Barshak Coming to Normandy Farm?

Has anyone else seen the new sign outside of Normandy Farm? It reads "She's Coming February 2011" and has the Cowgirl logo that Alison uses.

Can anyone confirm that it's Alison who's coming to Normandy Farm to replace the recently departed Jim Coleman?

HP SAUCE

Original formula HP Sauce (now made in the Netherlands) does not use HFCS. The formula still uses tamarind. As I posted earlier, the authentic/original formulation comes in a white capped bottle. The US version (made with HFCS) has a blue cap.

HP SAUCE

I worked for the exclusive importer of Heinz UK and HP (owned by Heinz) products. The company is based in CA and is the supplier of those items to Amazon. All of the products are made in the UK.
The HP Sauces made in the UK have white caps on them. If you see HP Sauce with a blue cap (and a different formula), it is being made in Englewood, NJ where Lea & Perrins is made.
