420 Reasons to eat's Profile

Serious Burger Find in Agoura (of all places?)

My wife and i really like The Ranch also. The buns are so good, and the staff is very friendly. We bought a car in Thousand Oaks and had to go to the dealership a couple times, and we tried to eat there every time we went up that way.

New to Sherman Oaks - breakfast? delivery? hotspots?

G.P. I really enjoy both of those sandwiches, my favorite thing to pick up on the way to Hollywood Bowl.

Taverna 8 1/2 - Studio City on Moorpark

Really? zenzen

Deep fried twinkies and mars bars - do they exist in LA?

I recently spotted them at the Eagle Rock Farmers market, Friday night. Its practically across from Oinkster.

The deep fried Twinkies were being sold at a Mexican food stand near the Kettle Corn stand.

Looking for great pizza place in Sherman Oaks/Studio City Area

Some really good pizza's listed here.

My Favorite pizzas in the Sherman Oaks area:

Lido Pizza (http://www.chichispizza.com/locations.html) on Victory just east of Sepulveda. No Delivery. 101-405 will make it a breeze and just pull into the parking lot and they will bring your order out. This is an old school Italian place that always seems to be busy. This is currently my Favorite Pizza in the valley. Don't be fooled by the Chi Chi's Pizza website.

I also really like Barone's (http://www.baronesfamousitalian.com/) on Oxnard just west of Woodman. No Delivery. Just tell the valet your picking up and your to go. Another old school Italian place.

And if it needs to be delivery I go Joe Peeps (http://joepeeps.com/) on Magnolia and Magnolia next to the Post Office. Go with the Blue Collar for thin crust, if you like thick crust and want more then one topping remember to order 1/2 portion toppings.

Beginning a BBQ Journey

Maxzook I think you have the menu's crossed for KC BBQ and Uncle Andre's.

I think KC has terrible links and Andre's doe not serve pork.

Beginning a BBQ Journey

I believe that Uncle Andre'a does not serve pork. They do not smoke or par boil. They have Bonelss beef ribs that are grilled to order. They have a dry rub and are served wet. I enjoy there hot links.
They have great banana pudding (when available). They also serve chicken.
And they do some deep frying of chicken and fish. Call ahead you will wait a while since everything is grilled to order.

KC BBQ smokes their meat.

best bbq takeout in los angeles right now

Where is the party?

Best Fries in and around Hollywood

The Oinkster has really good Belgium Fries. They are located in Eagle Rock on Colorado near Eagle Rock Blvd.

Broguiere's Nog Sightings?

Try PW market. I have one of thier glass bottles that I use for change, that i got in San Jose. If I rember correctly i got it at the PW Market in Campbell. Maybe Wild Oats if they still exsist.

L.A. Times food section???

10 Pages? I checked you are correct, I did doubt. I will say that 3 of those pages are full page ads, 2 pages had no ads, and the other 5 pages where an avg of 40% advertising. Not that I have a problem with the ads but I use to look forward to the Food Section and now I find myself disappointed most of the time.

Maybe they can expand on the 4 pages, Would a 60% articles and 40% advertisement really hurt?

Can't get an egg white omelet at Joan's on Third [moved from LA]

In Regards to Le Pain Quotidien. You can order a side of egg salad and a side of whatever bread you like for about the same price if not less. The Founder of Le Pain Quotidien still designs the menu and he would like you to enjoy the food the way he designed it. You can substitute Spelt Bread for the Wheat. The Le Pain Baguette does not make a good sandwich bread (too crispy) it is better eaten with the hazelnut spread all over it.

Can't get an egg white omelet at Joan's on Third [moved from LA]

Very Good Point Cindy, Also if the Eggs are already batched the restaurant runs the risk of a under skilled cook getting shells in the omelette.

And you also run the risk of having dealt with an ignorant cashier. It is really tough to find good help for non tip FOH positions.

You might want to call and give it one more try. I find it very hard to believe that with the clientele they serve that they do not offer an egg white option.

Best croissant in LA?

Studio City Le Pain Quotidien actually bakes the croissants on the premise so if you get lucky or are willing to wait you can get one straight from the oven. The Pain Au Chocolate is amazing when freash from the oven.

Great Pecan Pie?

Try Porch Pies they are located in Studio City. They bake them out of there home so you will have to call to order and they will deliver to you. If you live in the Studio City area they will deliver for free.

These are traditional southern pies.

Here is a link. http://www.porchpies.com/
Please let me know if you give them a try what you think.
I really enjoyed them i had the Pecan and the chocolate chess pie.

Freshly baked Farmer's/Brown Bread in LA area

Le Pain Quotidien does carry Whole Wheat Sourdough, Spelt (100% Spelt Flour), Sourdough Rye, Walnut (Whole Wheat Sourdough with Walnuts), and a Five Grain with Raisins.

I'm not familiar with the breads you are asking for, but I do know that Le Pain bakes all thier bread daily.

loteria goes hollywood

Tookyt,

Did you make a reservation for your party? If the large party is a walk-in then it really throws things off.

I've been working in the restaurant's for many years now. Large parties are very difficult to serve (especially in Los Angeles). Each person is doing there own thing, and 50% of the them are very self-absorbed (Hollywood=70%) it rare to find a large that is well prepared (The group must have a good "Captain"). Large parties also make every other table in that servers section suffer, if not the whole restaurant.

I have never worked at a restaurant that offered "bottle service". That is something a Club will do. So I can only imagine why the manager seemed confused.

As for multiple payments you make the process extremely difficult. i don't understand why everyone in the group can't just pitch in a rounded up portion of what they owe and be done with-it.

If you need to pay separately then order separately. And remember if you are going to order separately you will most likely all get your food at separate times.

Please do not attempt to judge service based upon a large group. And with that being said if there is a large group of people you should expect below average service.

Maybe I have some pent up resentment from being an ex-server for so many years, But I find it very troubling when poor customers try to blame poor service.
I am not saying that Tookyt is a poor customer, but the large party she was with; is very much a party that clearly has some work to do to elevate thier service. I hope your party left a 20% tip for causing so much chaos.

soft serve ice cream truck ala Mr. Softee?

There was one that would come by Apt. in North Hollywood (Magnolia & Vineland). It was really good and came around twice a week. They sold Soft Serve, Real Ice Cream by the Scoop, and Nachos. It would always be on my street around 7-8pm. It would stop a three places on the block and every stop people would line-up. I must the street was ALL Apartment Complexs, and boy was it ghetto.

I know live near Victory and Coldwater and have yet to see anything like it. Oh do I wish that would roll down my street now.

HealthyCa NoHo?

Healthy CA is now open later. When I ordered last night at 4:30pm they asked if i wanted delivery. he said they now deliver until 6pm

For a formal Dining experience in the Valley maybe you should try Boneyard Bistro On Ventura Blvd. near the Studio City/Sherman Oaks Border.

Kansas City BBQ has great babybacks and bbq beans.
