Lecosho

disappointing experience. Food itself is lackluster & commonplace in yet another of these 'trendy' spots...same items on this menu that you'll find on any menu of this ilk anywhere in Seattle. Ho Hum.

Excellent Felafel found

King Felafel Grill, 8317 Greenwood Ave. N. 98103

Excellent Felafel found

This place just opened on Greenwood Ave betw. 83rd & 85th. I was really delighted by their felafel...the best I've had in Seattle: interesting flavors of cumin and coriander seed, nice textural contrast of smooth center & crunchy exterior...not greasy...definitely a 'cut above'. Surprising spicy 'bite' in both the hummus & baba ghanouj; also has a pleasant dining space.

Steelhead vs Dahlia for dinner

IMO, Dahlia cooks with better quality ingredients, ambiance and creativity in ideas for their recipes. So, Steelhead in my experience is not even comparable. I think Joule is pretentious and inconsistent with their food...not to mention how noisy the place is & uncomfortable the seats are.

Poppy or Spring Hill?

I agree...the noise level at Spring Hill IS deafening and the food is hit & miss and pricey.

Spring Hill Restaurant & Bar

Poppy or Spring Hill?

I agree about the vibe & ambiance being similar. Poppy's decor is more dramatic in it's color and attention to architectural detail...so in that respect it's a clearer winner.
The parking would be alot easier at Spring Hill. The food, IMO, is much better at Poppy....more interesting, more seasonally inspired and more unique. Poppy's desserts are some of the best & most creative in Seattle.

Good food at the bar?

Sazerac in the HOtel MOnaco has unique Louisiana-style food at the bar and fun atmosphere...and Earth & Ocean in the W Hotel has the best french fries w. herbs & garlic in the city IMO and other well-crafted bar food.

5 Hour Lunch Time Lay-Over in Seattle

I'd pick Anthony's Homeport in Des Moines which is just south of the airport w. a fabulous view right at the boat marina on Puget Sound. Order Dungeness crab and get a true taste of the Pacific NW....it's just a quick cab ride there. Their blackberry cobbler for dessert is always a winner.

Dahlia Lounge vs. Palace Kitchen

I'd choose Dahlia...classier atmosphere, finer & more interesting food. Palace is too hip & casual for me and also pretty noisy. I also don't appreciate the open kitchen style.....adds to the already hectic atmosphere. I would go to Palace just for happy hour.

Please help! Rehearsal dinner suggestions needed!

I've had good experiences with the food and private dining facilities at McCormick & Schmicks...and their staff is very professional. I think it would be a good place w. a very Seattle view/locale & good local fish for an out-of-town group.

What's up with spice wimps in this town?

I, too, have found unreliable the heat levels in fresh jalapenos here. I buy the serranos now...or even the thai chilis for more reliable 'heat' in my cooking.

What's up with spice wimps in this town?

I was so disappointed with the Szechuan Crab at Seven Stars Pepper....one of the most overrated dishes mentioned on this board! And the other dishes we had there were sloppy-textured and just not fresh.

Seattle's Best Sandwiches

I was disappointed with the quality of the meat and bread at I Love NY Deli.....a mediocre substitute for those of us here who miss NY Jewish Deli food. I did discover George's Deli on Pill Hill ( Madison St.) across from The Sorrento Hotel...and boy was my smoked pork shoulder sandwich delicious...great on-site smoked meat & sausages, very, very fresh bread and very fresh sandwich condiments.....they're a Polish-style food joint.

Union, Poppy or Tilth -- One Night in Seattle

HI..as a former NY'er I would recommend to you:
CANLIS for the Saturday night dinner...incomparable, sure to impress and delight a NY'er and very PNW.
I would not choose Tilth, Union or Poppy for a NY'er....they're far below the quality & creativity you can easily find in many a neighborhood restaurant in NYC.
I agree with akmar: Elemental, Corson Bldg. would also be unique experiences for a NY'er.
For locavore fare I like Earth & Ocean better than Tilth (which I find cramped, noisy, uninviting ambiance & overpriced)

3 Seattle Chefs on Top Chef Masters Season 2

I wasn't surprised that Holly SMith lost so quickly.....

Cantinetta

This was similar to my experience with the food..heavy-handed with flavors, oversalted, too small portions and overpriced.....i don't think Seattle needs more of this kind of neighborhood place.

SEA- Belltown Rocker Dinner?

CYCLOPS..most definitely fits your bill....after almost 20 yrs. it stays true to it's style/image and still great food...

Seattle area cooking classes?

Cook's World Cooking School has a very good variety and skilled instructors:

Thanksgiving Buffet

I've been to dinner many times to Brasserie Margaux...I'd recommend their french-inspired cooking...reliable quality and well-crafted...plus I find the dining room pleasant, the wait staff attentive and the parking always easy.

Seeking perfect burger joint combo in Seattle

I've had their veggie burger and it is awful.....greasy & heavy-textured and what a belly ache I had after eating it. Their fried potatoes are pretty ordinary......just commonplace pre-frozen spuds.

First Time at Legendary Canlis

THANKS! So nice to read about Betty & her Canlis tradition and her monogrammed champagne flute

The Seattle eat-list for this weekend - thoughts?

The best Ice Cream in the city for my money is the Dahlia Bakery.

Crab in Seattle

I disagree with all the accolades given to Seven Stars Pepper's Szechuan crab. It is really NOT amazing or even close IMO...very peppery it is..to such an extent that it overpowers the real flavor and enjoyment of the crab. And the chinese 5-spice powder flavor in the crust is just ordinary...it's a spice mixture that they obviously have handy in their pantry....not much thought there! I much prefer the ginger-scallion crab at Uptown China on Queen Anne...and wholeheartedly recommend it...it's very fresh, succulent and well-balanced.....cooked with more artistry than 7 Stars Pepper....and for the high price of Dungeness crab in Seattle that's what I'd recommend.

Seeking great (or at least good) red-sauce Italian in Seattle

Salvatore's........certainly.

Coming to town in November for three nights, would you change our dining itinerary?

I'd stick w. Chandler's for the crab.....straightforward and competitively priced.
Tulio's: romantic, elegant decor and satisfying, better than average popular Italian dishes.
Chiso's for sushi.
Don't recommend Spur... their cocktails are more like spiked fruit punches.
Good cocktails at Andaluca in the Mayflower Hotel.

Seattle's Most Underrrated Restaurants

I also vote for Brasa....I've never been disappointed and am always more than satisfied with my dining experiences there. I've brought countless friends there who also marvel at the quality of their food and creativity of the menu...it never bores! And the decor/ambiance/service is also quite consistently enjoyable. The Art of the Table is underrated, for sure....in my experiences there I've enjoyed the food and artistry of the chef...but I don't recommend how noisy and crammed in like 'sardines' the seating arrangements are.....not worth it IMO.

Wingmasters Mozzarella Sticks (SEA)

It's true. They are huge and they're awful. They use the really cheap, low-moisture, skim milk mozzarella so it's basically like eating deep fried spackling paste.
At Perche No they have delicious whole-milk mozzarella sticks served w. a perfectly yummy freshly made tomato sauce.

Most Overrated Restaurant in Seattle

oh yes, Crush is overrated and I wouldn't recommend going back for more of the same experience.

Poppy?

Canlis is a better choice for the best PNW cuisine and the location, view, ease of parking, service, decor can't be beat. Poppy is good...but more trendy, casual, and indian-flavor influenced.

Cheap, good hot wings in Seattle

For more of a caribbean jerk flavor and crispy & hot , I like the wings at Ray's Boathouse Cafe...they're also a good deal at happy hour.
