Cool Event Spaces Pittsburgh

Thank you so much, very helpful. And Augie6, that is my next question -- caterers! I love the ideas of Big Burrito esp. since they have a Pgh station and I'll be having a lot of out of town guests but I'm open to anything. Any recs?

Cool Event Spaces Pittsburgh

Hi there,

This isn't so much about food but about a cool place to serve the food. I am planning an engagement party in the 'burgh this summer. The actual wedding is family only so this will be like the reception before the wedding. I am looking for cool, interesting, different spaces to host 75 - 100. So far on my list to see: The Andy Warhol Museum, The Mattress Factory, The Firehouse in Lawrenceville (sorry, the name escapes me) and the Pgh Society for Contemporary Craft.

Any other cool, different suggestions? The Pgh Center for the Arts is totally booked until next September so that's out.

Thank you in advance.

Venues with Party Rooms

In need of venues with party rooms to accomodate 20 - 30. We are interested in liquor and appetizers but many already researched have outrageous rental and bartending fees.

Some places already checked (either booked or too pricey):

Webster Wine Bar
Swirl
Adobo Grill (both locations)
Gioco
Flemings

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Peruvian chicken in Chicago?

I lived in DC and am very familiar w/El Pollo Rico. Yum! I've never found anything here like it. I've been to a Peruvian spot I like though called "Taste of Peru" on Clark in Rogers Park.

Venue suggestions for group of 9

Location doesn't matter. We're staying at the JW Marriott but will cab anywhere for a good place. I'd like to keep in in the District though.

Venue suggestions for group of 9

Hi all --

I'll be in town in a few weeks and will be taking a group of 9 to dinner. This is a once a year business trip and in the past we've dined at Kinkead's, the wine room at Primi Piatti and Ten Penh just to give you an idea of price point and other things we've done.

I need to breathe some life into this -- any new restaurants you could recommend? I'm out of the loop as I moved out of DC several years ago. Oh, and it will be a Monday night, if that matters.

Great food is a must, preferably a not too stuffy environment.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Looking for same vibe as West Town

I'm a huge fan of West Town Tavern (especially in the fall) and I'm looking for something similar -- intimate cozy atmosphere, seasonal menu, tucked away...

I'm not looking to replace, just add to my bag of restaurant tricks. I have a friend coming in town tomorrow and I've already taken him here twice. He too loves it but I'd like to show him something else.

Any suggestions?

Budapest - Restaurants in Buda/Castle District

Funny, I just got back from Budapest on Monday and logged on to give two restaurant recs -- one in the Castle District. It's called Cafe Pierrot and it's just down the street from the Hilton. The address is 14 Fortuna Street (Utca). It's pricier than the cafes but it's so beautiful and you just feel so much like you're in Budapest --- and our food was wonderful.

Budapest Cooking Schools

I'll be in Budapest in the fall and would love to take a cooking class or two. Google searches don't yield much -- can anyone recommend anything?

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good

A peanut butter and pickle sandwich. Use your fave pb but pickles must be dill. Those crunchy Clausens work best. Oh, and before you cut it, squash it a little. Sounds gross but it's de-lish!

Hummus Discovery

Just stumbled upon Cedar's horseradish hummus. Two thumbs up from this judge.

Kombucha starter wanted!

Has anyone actually noticed the health benefits of the Kombucha? I actually like the flavor but can't say I've noticed any differences in my health.

International Cooking Classes

Ah -- sorry, I should have been clearer. I meant classes actually in Europe, I'll be traveling this fall.

International Cooking Classes

Anyone have any experience with European cooking classes? I'm looking for one day classes in Tuscany, Provence and Spain (flexible on location). There are loads on the internet but I'm curious if anyone has any personal recommendations.

International Cooking Classes

I'm going to post this in the "International" section as well but thought I'd try here.

Visiting Chicago - which hood is best for food?

The best thing about Chicago is that every neighborhood has great food. I really can't think of any exceptions. And on the living front, I used to be a Lakeview dweller and eventually outgrew it. I bought a place in Edgewater four years ago and have been very happy.

Gruppo di Amici

Went there last night for the first time, what a great addition to the Rogers Park neighborhood. Wanted to report on one of their dishes. It's listed as "meatballs" on the menu and it's really spaghetti and meatballs but mostly meatballs (that were very good) with a small serving of spaghetti. Perfect ratio for someone like me. I usually order spaghetti and meatballs for the meatballs anyway.

Peanut Butter

Whole Foods freshly ground pb is the best! I used to be a Jif gal but after trying fresh, I've never turned back.

The Shamrock Shake

Does it still exist? I went to a McD's yesterday on West Irving Park and they didn't have them.

Have they gone the way of the dinosaur?

Monday Restaurant Specials

Any interesting Monday restaurant specials? I'm a huge fan of the Tuesday Le Bouchon deal -- kind of looking for something like that.

La Pasadita

Saw La Pasadita on Check Please (and have driven by many times). Is it really worth the trip? If so, what's a "must order" item?

I'm not doubting that it's good, it's just that I've found so many great taquerias in Chicago, it's one of the things that I love about it. Tell me why I should make the trip to that one...

Walnut Room Scone Recipe?

Try going throught the "RSVP" section in Bon Appetit magazine.

Cotes du Rhone?

Yes -- they've got a ton of kinks to work out. For instance, we had a reservation and weren't seated for TWO hours! We gave them a break b/c they're new and we all live in EdgeH20 so we're pulling for them. I will say the food was very good and I will definitely go back -- I feel certain they'll pull it together.

Greektown

Any standouts in Greektown? I'm headed there tonight and my experience has been just mediocre at every place I've tried.
