Caterer needed in Mississauga
Thanks for the suggestion! Never considered Middle Eastern foods, which I should have beecause it's one cuisine where mom-to-be can eat everything. I'll check it out for sure.
Caterer needed in Mississauga
Yeah, I did see them online and saw that they offered pantry items and to go foods too. So, I went by there just yesterday to buy some takeout food just to see what they were all about, and the door was locked with a note on the door saying 'we've decided to focus on corporate account catering. Call this number if interested'. It kinda put a bad flavour in my mouth because it took me 30+ minutes to get there....good thing I didn't pay for parking!
High-end-ish restaurants near the airport... ?
One of the best Japanese restaurants I've ever eaten ate is in the Doubletree Hotel where the Grand Chinese restaurant is. Ginko is owned and operated by Japanese people, and the sushi is amongst the best I've ever had. They also have teppanyaki, but I've never eaten at the tables. Pricier, but well worth it!
Caterer needed in Mississauga
Hosting a baby shower for 25 people in July. Has anyone had any amazing experiences with caterers in Mississauga? Looking for some platters with some hot and cold hors d'oeuvres. Budget is under $30.00 a head. Thanks in advance!
Good eats in Schaumberg?
OHHHHH man, I am so excited! These are great options. I had no idea Arlington Heights was so close to Schaumberg, this makes everything so much easier.
Good eats in Schaumberg?
We're staying here this weekend for a family wedding and we have no idea what to eat in this area. Anything worth visiting? We're a foodie family traveling from Toronto-so something we don't have (or do well) in Toronto would be ideal. Any bbq? Mexican? Comfort food?
Good eats near North End of the Strip?
Good rec on this one-I like that it`s 24 hours. I was worried that near our hotel there wouldn`t be anything decent to eat in those wee hours of the morning.
Good eats near North End of the Strip?
Looks pretty retro! Deviled eggs! Thanks for the tip about calling in vs. Open Table. I`ll definitely keep this place in mind.
Good eats near North End of the Strip?
Awesome thanks! We were thinking of finding a good Mexican place since we don`t have good Mexican in Toronto. We`ll check it out for sure.
Good eats near North End of the Strip?
We're going to be at the Hilton Grand Vacations and apparently there's not much else around there. We won't have a car, but we're willing to take cabs.
We've already planned a meal at Lotus of Siam (super excited!!!), which seems to be a pretty close cab ride, but other than that where to go???
We're open to all suggestions-except for the restos at the Cosmo, MGM and Bellagio. We're more interested in the hidden gems at the north end.
Thanks for any suggestions!
What to do with dried shiitake mushrooms?
Reconstitute in water, slice up and use in Korean Jap Chae. Without the mushrooms, the noodles lack a richness of flavour. With the mushrooms, delightful!
Alan Wong's -- tasting menu vs. a la carte?
Thank you to everyone who responded-do you happen to know if we can split tasting menus? I'd rather get a tasting menu to split and then add some items a la carte so we get a great variety of dishes to try...
Alan Wong's -- tasting menu vs. a la carte?
Thanks for the tip! I've never had the salad. I heard you can buy the dressing bottled? Is this true?
Alan Wong's -- tasting menu vs. a la carte?
We always go to Alan Wong's on our anniversary every year, and this year we've decided to treat my parents and sister on our special day.
We've always done the tasting menu, but rest of the fam has not. Our last visit to Alan Wong's we were quite full half way through the meal. I'm wondering if we should try ordering off the regular menu as my parents are lighter eaters. However, I see that many tasty items on the tasting menu are cleverly left off the regular menu.
Any thoughts on which menu is better? Can we share tasting menus? Or should we do half tasting menu, half reg menu? Help! Thanks in advance!

Your favourite Farmer's Markets and vendors?
Not sure if you're willing to drive, but the farmers market in St. Jacobs near Waterloo is a huge market with an outdoors section in the summer. Don't go Saturday at noon-it's crazy busy and you won't find a parking spot. Try going first thing in the morning, or closer to closing time around 2:00 pm. I can't think of specific names of vendors, but the mennonite vendors with their bottles of maple syrup is a huge favourite of mine!
YOU GOTTA GO TO BARQUE FOR BBQ!
Bar-q? Or Bark? Still don't know how to pronounce it. Shrug.
We were there for late night drinks and snacks, being in the area for an art gallery thingie. There was 10 of us all together.
*Spinach salad with pulled chicken was as expected, but the chicken needed more smoke and one piece of the chicken had a seriously large piece of goose bump skin hanging off of it.
*Chicken tenders were delicious-super crispy and salty on the outside, and tender white meat on the inside.
*Wings were ok, but again we felt it needed more smoke.
*Side ribs were tooooo sweet, and it ended up being the only item we didn't finish.
*Beignets were not crispy enough on the outside, but the sauce you dip it in was delicious; tangy, sweet and gooey.
I'd go back if I were in the area again, but I'd definitely ask for rec's instead of ordering on our own.
Weekend In Kitchener
If you're in St. Jacobs, check out the farmers market. The sausage on a bun with sauerkraut and onions is a must--don't forget the oktoberfest mustard! Also, visit Stone Crock bakery downtown St. Jacobs and have a dutch apple square. Crazy good-crisp brown sugar topping, tart apples, thin crust. Enjoy your week-end!

Telus Tuesdays
We did Marben too and we both thought the charcut plate was a rip. I had the salad, ravioli and bread pudding, all delicious, but could have had more of each. My dining partner had the charcut. plate, lobster seafood dish and then the ice cream sandwich. She said she probably wouldn't run back for the food. But I've been back for drinks and dessert since.
Heard good things about Delux though--that cuban sandwich is supposed to be delish (forget if it's on the Telus menu or not).

Where can I get a vegetarian burger?
I don't like Milestones generally speaking, but when I do dine there, I opt for the veggie burger covered in guacamole with a side of sweet potato fries.
Need a Chinese New Years Restaurant TMW night that will Impress!
Help! I need to take out a family friend from China out for dinner tmw night for NYE. He's here for business only for a short period of time and we wanted to take him somwhere really fun, and really memorable for Chinese New Years GTA style. Anywhere in the GTA is fine, and any budget is fine. There will be 4 of us in total. Thanks in advance!
Dinner's on us....where to go?
We want to take out 2 friends/business colleagues out for dinner within the next few weeks. Anywhere in Toronto and/or Mississauga is fine by us. We want to go somewhere fairly nice as it is a business dinner, however I'd like to keep the budget around 50-75 dollars a head including wine. I have looked at Splendido but it looks like it might go over budget. Suggestions?

Wedding at Old Barber House, Mississauga
I haven't been, but my parents attended a wedding there in August 2010. Entrees were a choice of chicken or beef. I was told the food was okay; they said they've had better. However, they did say the service was excellent, and that it was a beautiful location. Good luck!
GLOBE Earth coming to Mississauga
Understood-but I am thinking of a specific date in mind to go this place-in which case I'll make reservations somewhere else and try Globe Earth sometime in December.
GLOBE Earth coming to Mississauga
Just thought someone may know when they planned to open (whenever)--I just have to keep checking the website everyday in November just waiting for those words when it will say, "Today, closed. Tomorrow, open".
GLOBE Earth coming to Mississauga
Is this place open yet?! I keep checking the website and it always says "Today, closed. Tomorrow, closed." Anyone have the lowdown on when it may open?
Best restaurant in Mississauga
It's hilarious, it's nearly the time for my birthday, and doing a general search I found my own post I did nearly a year ago. I haven't had a chance to scope out many of these options listed below, however I do see that many resto's listed here are on other Mississauga posts as well so I'll definitely have to make a point to eat there sometime soon.
Sadly, we haven't found our "best hands-down go to spot" yet in 'sauga other than our pho place, our sushi place, our Korean place and our Chinese place. We're getting Asian'd out! :p
I'm trying to find a place that would compare to the feeling of a Biff's, Cava or a Terroni's....a neighborhood gem that isn't necessarily a cheap eats, but a nicer place to really enjoy a plate of food, have a glass of wine and chill.
Anyone else been to this Gabriel's?

RUSH HOUR....The Restaurant?
Yup! Went with a colleague of mine 6 or so months ago. I drive by it all the time so I wanted to try it out. It's a portuguese restaurant. The night I went it was very empty. Nice atmosphere, but it was very quiet since there was only the two of us. My colleague ordered the chicken, and I ordered the fish of the day which was grouper. Now, I love fish, all types of fish but for some reason, this fish smelled and tasted really fishy. So fishy that I couldn't finish it. The waiter asked if I wanted it packed up, but I just said no thanks. My colleague thought that maybe it's just the way they prepare it...but I'm not so sure. She however, enjoyed her chicken dish very much-a simple roasted chicken breast with asparagus and other veggies. I think I just ordered the wrong thing on the wrong day.
Lunch in Eglinton+Dufferin/Castlefield Design District
I agree that Babos is a good lunch place, but man after the mix plate meal by 3:00 pm I'm ready to call it a day, go home and fall asleep.
I also second Seoul House for a nice light lunch, but it can be a trek with bad traffic on Dufferin. As for Sky Ranch, I've only been there once years ago and I ordered chicken (which was a mistake) it was that weird spongy, chicken that isn't really chicken (think Tim Ho's chicken). However, others with me ordered steak which they said was decent. Having said this, we have never been back since that one meal.
Can't wait to try Columbus bakery this week! I've always wondered about that place. My tummy's growling with anticipation for the tamales!
Lunch in Eglinton+Dufferin/Castlefield Design District
I work in the area as well; the options are not great. However, at our workplace we do like ordering from the lunch menu at Express Thai Cuisine. Their pad thai is among the best I have ever had in Toronto. The owners are Thai, so you know you're getting an authentic meal. Don't go for atmosphere, as it's a real hole-in-the-wall resto located in a crummy plaza, on the west side of Dufferin, across from the Rexall pharmacy just north of Dufferin of Eglinton. They also have Thai salads, and fresh rolls which you may find refreshing if you're looking for lighter meals. Hope this helps!
