Near Joshua Tree NP Lunch & Dinner Recommendations

Whenever we're in Joshua Tree, we go to Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace. Food is great. Live music, and it's a fun visit to Pioneertown.
They have little cowboy skits during the weekends at certain times of the year (I think Apr thru October). There is also a bowling alley & arcade.

INEXPENSIVE (!!!) shower location

Looking for a cool, yummy place for a small non-traditional bridal shower. It will be on a Sunday in November. Can be brunch, lunch or dinner. About 15-20 people. Can be in the Valley, Eastside or Westside. Would love if we can do food for under $15/pp. Would love something cool/funky/different, but w/ a small private area. Not Maggiano's (wedding will be there).
THANKS!

i've also heard that they have really good ones at the restaurant that borders on the 'pirates of the carribean' ride at disneyland. never tried them though.

Wat Thai...any word on re-opening?

When Wat Thai was closing, I had heard that the close may be temporary. Does anyone know if there are any plans to re-open?

Or where else can I satisfy my mangoes & sticky rice craving? The West LA/SaMo area would be great..... Has anyone tried Poom Thai on Linclon?

Thanks!

Best sandwich I ever invented

grilled peanut butter and bacon...the bread could be white, rye, wheat...whatever you have.

or salami and larrupin's mustard dill sauce on hawaiian sweet rolls.

yum.

japanese rest - kid's bento boxes-westside

hi-
i'm looking for an inexpensive family-friendly restaurant that we can add to our list of places we bring the kids to.
i'd love to find a decent japanese restaurant that has the kid bento boxes (the cute ones that stack). we've been to a pretty good one that the kids (6, 5 & 3) loved, but it was near the beverly center (i think it was mishima). i've also been to one on ocean park, but they only have 3 bento boxes and they were being used, so the kids were pretty bummed. and the food wasn't that great.
the sawtelle area would be great...west LA or sant monica is the area i'm looking for.

THANKS!

Cafe Bolivar Arepas = YUM!!

wow! i just went to cafe bolivar for first time today. what a great place! clean, friendly...the menu looked great, but i just stopped in to get some 'arepas' to go. my neighbors had told me about these and i'd been wanting to try them. they're DELICIOUS. a little round venezuelan sandwich made w/ corn meal. i tried the black bean/cheese and the mango/avocado/cheese w/ aoli. they were served with a yummy green sauce.

i will definitely be back...i may become a regular. the rest of the menu looked really great too.

it's on ocean park & 18th. no real sign outside, but it's right on the corner and has a few tables w/ red umbrellas outside. next door to the mexican market.

Fresh Granola, Or Granola and Yogurt w/ fruit?

Believe it or not, Costco has delicious granola. It's in the bakery section. Seriously addictive.

Craft: Is it worth it?

i'm a big 'top chef' fan too, and i was SO excited to see tom colicchio last sunday, surfing right next to me! i couldn't muster the words to say anything, but it was very cool.
i'm looking forward to going to CRAFT too,

Bin 189 Lake Arrowhead Resort

i LOVE this place!!! i've just had wine and appetizers, but the food was great! and the wine was great too....bottles and glasses for all different price ranges.
i love the look and feel of the bar...beautiful upscale lodge.
i want to stay there next time...they have some really great deals on rates, including massages, etc.

QUIET restaurant on Fri nite in WLA/SaMo/W-wood

thanks, though.

QUIET restaurant on Fri nite in WLA/SaMo/W-wood

hi-
i'm looking for a QUIET restaurant for some girlfriends and i to chat about one's recent break-up (tears may be involved). it'll be fri nite.
we'll be having a LIGHT meal & wine or cocktails. just tapas would be fine, or a bigger menu.

Banh Mi Crawl in Rosemead...Or Why Lee's Kicks The Crap Out Of Mr. Baguette!

this is making me so hungry. where is some good banh mi closest to the westside?

Bay Cities Deli- bad attitude of the managmt

i agree...that mike is a real stress-case. i've never had to interact w/ him, but i've seen him act like a jerk.
but i must say, i do like how the deli guys always call me "gorgeous" and give me a wink when they give me my sandwich. hee hee. i think they do that to all the girls tho!

Bay Cities (Santa Monica): Good, but NOT TRANSCENDENT

i used to be addicted to the meatball sandwiches.....until i discovered the caprese.
try it. delish!

and then buy a loaf of bread, some fresh ricotta and some caponata from the deli counter. heaven.

best belgian beer selection in scal

yummmm...i used to live in belgium. and was so happy to find kriek at trader joe's and whole foods!!

Tea w/ Mom

Hiya hounds-
It's time for our annual Mother's Day tea, and we've done the rounds at all the gorgeous hotels in the area. We are deciding whether to do a repeat of a nice hotel, or to venture somewhere new. There are 4 ladies and 1 little girl.
We'd like something elegant, great service, delicious...and if they also serve champagne that would be perfect!
I've never been to Chado or Jin Patisserie...would either of those for the bill?
The Westside would be most convenient for us, but we could go as far as Pasadena so something really great.
BTW...we don't actually go on Mother's Day, to avoid the big rush, we'll go on another May weekend.

THANKS!

Best Quesadillas in L.A.!

my secret shame is baja cantina on washington (not very chow-ish, i know!). i love their rosemary chicken quesadilla and their papaya chicken quesadilla. and the gi-normous drinks are great too!
