Looking for things to add to soup
It's soup weather and I'm looking for dried peas, beans, lentils, barley etc to add to my winter soups. Where is the best place to buy this sort of thing? I've bought red lentils at Whole Foods before but the packets are so small that I can easily go through several in a week if I'm making large batches of soup to put in the freezer. Is there somewhere that sells them cheaply in bulk (or at least larger packets) and that has a good variety?
I'm in the East Village but willing to travel.
Thanks!
Del Posto Enotecca menu?
A friend wants to try the Enotecca menu at Del Posto for her birthday next month. Has anyone been recently and woould they recommend it?
She's looking to spend about $50 per head on food and I'm not sure where else to recommend in this price bracket as a plan B.
Thanks all!
Items: Missing in US / Missing in UK
Now that I'm living in the US I really, really miss Branston pickle. Ahh... pickle..
Sunday Prix Fixe Dinner
If you like Italian, L'Impero offers their Domenica Rustica prix fixe on Sundays. LaVagna in the East Village also has a prix fixe on Sundays.
Any Good Wonton Noodle Soup near LES?
Although I love Great NY Noodletown, I haven't been all that impressed by their wonton noodle soup. It's nice to have whole prawns in the wontons but I just wish they'd take the time to de-vein them first as sometimes they are a bit gritty and this spoils the whole thing for me.
Healthy dinner UWS
I'm meeting a friend for dinner on Saturday night and she is on a health kick for the new year. Any suggestions for a healthy dinner (salads, veggie options, fish, chicken etc) around W85th or generally UWS? Any cuisine is fine and would prefer less than $20 entrees. Thanks!
Help - canned chickpeas solid
I've just opened a can of chickpeas to find that instead of being loose in a salt and water solution, the salt water has solidified so that it looks like the chickpeas are suspended in a clear jelly. It's like a can of pet food! Are they still OK to eat? Any idea what has happened to them? I've never seen this happen before.
The can isn't passed it's expiry date and didn't seem to be punctured in any way.
Ultra Cheap LES for kids who want McDonalds
What about 7A (a cafe/diner on cnr 7th &A or is that too far? http://www.menupages.com/restaurantdetails.asp?areaid=0&restaurantid=2330&neighborhoodid=0&cuisineid=0
You could also take them to Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches on 2nd & A. It's a pretty small place so you could take the sandwiches and go and eat in the community garden you suggested. http://www.menupages.com/restaurantdetails.asp?areaid=0&restaurantid=5685&neighborhoodid=0&cuisineid=0
guests from out of town me to take them to live music with dinner on a tues night. stumped.
You could try Jules in the East Village - they have live jazz in the evenings. www.julesbistro.com
Alphabet City Dining
Cafecito on C between 11th and 12th has nice Cuban food. Esperanto on C and 9th is also good (Latin food). There's also Royale at C and 10th for burgers, Tigerland at A between 5th & 6th for pan-asian, Supper on 2nd between A&B for Italian, and Minca at 5th between A & B if you like ramen...
Most 'NY' brunch experience in East Village?
Oh. I've booked for 11am on Sunday (when they open) so my cousin has time to see some sights in the afternoon because they leave on Tuesday morning and are trying to see as much as they can.
Has anyone been to Essex for brunch on a Sunday recently and can they confirm if they do /don't serve alcohol before noon?
Most 'NY' brunch experience in East Village?
Thanks everyone for the great suggestions - I've booked us a table at Essex (Five Points was full up). Looking forward to it!
Most 'NY' brunch experience in East Village?
My cousin and her fiancee are coming to NY for the first time and we'd like to take them out for their first NY brunch somewhere in the East Village this Sunday (thought it would be fun to walk around the area afterwards). The problem is we're new in town ourselves and haven't tried that many places. Any recommendations for somewhere with nice food and mimosas or bloody marys? I was thinking of Clinton Street Baking Company but I can't remember if they serve mimosas during brunch...
Thanks heaps!
