"Breakfast" around the world

The soymilk they are referring to is different than the one you buy in the regular supermarkets. In the Chinese markets, the soymilk is not sweetened. Plus the one in the restaurants is served almost like a soup.

Thanks Das, I figured you would know. We are willing to pay the price, b/c I know there has to be a place better than Greenfields by me.

ISO Happy Hour near Long Beach

I hope you found a place to go, but for next time you can try Los Compadres. They have a wonderful Tamarinda. That is a tamarind margarita, so yum!

Any good Chinese or Indian restaurants in Long Beach?

As stated, there are not any good Chinese or Indian places to be had in LBC. But, if you want Thai/Cambodian then you have a plethora of choices. I haven't gone yet, but there is a new place on PCH near CSULB called Thiptara that I have heard good things about. They are also open until 12 on Fri and Sat. I haven't been to Kamal Palace in a year, but I have never had any problems there. They also own a restaurant in Artesia, iirc. I also like Sophy's on PCH for Cambodian/Thai.

That's the reason, the rolls. But I do enjoy their duck salad as well. BTW...not a big fan of Lee's.

Just say no! to refrigeration of fresh rice noodles

Great question, that is why I posted, to generate interest. But, alas, I do not know how to start. Anyone that has any suggestions, they are welcome.

Just say no! to refrigeration of fresh rice noodles

Article that is linked below is of chow interest. They want all of the fresh rice noodles refrigerated now. This just doesn't work.

Where can I get authentic Sichuan Hot Pot?

Is there a Little Fat Sheep in the area? I have been to the one in San Diego and loved it. If not, anything that you would recommend?

Another option that I like much better than EPL is Charo Chicken. I use to love KKR, what a shame, but when I want some tasty chicken and I don't feel like making it myself, it's Charo all the way.

Salty Crunchy Almond Duck Squares at Canton City in Montebello

no, no, no...egg foo young is good when it is made well, but since my gramps restaurant is no longer around, I can't find anything equivalent. It was great b/c it was not battered like some I have tried. His was more omelet like w/lots of onions. He would grill them first, let them cool and then deep fry when they were ordered. I liked them fresh off the grill w/brown gravy. Now if anyone knows some that are made like this, let me know please.

Chicken Bao. Where?

In Long Beach you can get some fresh baos at a place called Dragon Sea Restaurant. They serve a Cambodian or Lao style bun, but some of the cooks speak Chinese, so I think they are a blend. Anyways, they have both BBQ pork as well as chicken w/the chinese sausage and egg and they also have a ground pork w/the chinese sausage and egg as well. These are not like the real Chinese gai boas that you may be searching for, but they are fresh and they have it most all day long for about $1 each. They also sell fresh sui mai 2 for $1 that are pretty tasty.

Sauteed Calamari

Di Piazza's in Long Beach does a nice sauteed calamari steak and I had an calamari appetizer at the Sycamore Inn in Rancho Cucamonga that was delicious. They do great steaks as well. Didn't see the fried calamari post, but I like the ones at Chinese restaurants that are hot and spicy.

Long Beach Aquarium area recs?

Malvasia has been gone for some time. It is a George's Greek, same as the on Pine.

Magic Lamp is another middle eastern type restaurant on 2nd that I love just as much as Open Sesame.

Off of 2nd street is a little Italian place called Cafe Gazelle. It is one of my favorite spots and has only 8 tables I believe and they only fit 2 or 3 at most per table. Not sure the size of your party, so you would have to take that into consideration.

Spring roll v Egg Roll [moved from Austin board]

Sorry, but I just found your question as I have not been on in awhile. Basically, to make the wrappers, my grandpa would just whip the eggs and cook them like a crepe, but huge and in a wok. I am sure you can do the same thing w/a frying pan. We would take these 'crepe' like wrappers, cut them in half and then roll w/the stuffing. We then steamed the rolls. I liked them best when they were steamed. But for the customers, we then dipped in batter and deep fried. Hope that helps.
