You have a better idea for lunch on our way walking from Old Post Office Tower to National Archives? Very little time for a sit down meal. Has to be fast.

Coral Springs Lunch

I know this is an old post but thought I needed to mention a new place I just had some lunch at in Coral Springs, a bit different..... Jammin Caribbean on Wiles Road west of Coral Springs Dr.

Just had incrediblee Ackee and Cod, boiled banana, homemade fruit cake, and some great fried bread or dumplings or something like that. Everything so flavorful, reasonably priced. Please note, this place is tiny! Inside, maybe 4 people can sit and maybe 4 people outside on tables. Mostly a take out place but wow. So looking forward to coming back for the jerk and curry dishes.

Budget Friendly and Kid Friendly in Ft. Lauderdale

I assume this is a vacation. Where are you coming from, where are you staying, and what do you like? That may help us figure out what would work for you. I don't eat often in FL on the cheap but three reasonable kid friendly places that come to mind are:

Zona Fresca - Great local mexican chain (3 restaurants)

Tarpon Bend - Seafood bar with outdoor seeting and a short walk from the Museum of Discovery and Science.

Hot Dog Heaven - On Sunrise. Hole in the wall hot dog place. The fried salami sandwich is killer.

The closest one to Delray is one in Boynton Beach if they really, really want one but i would seriously consider heading down federal to Charm City for a much better burger.

A few restaurants I have chosen for San Antonio. Please help.

5 nights in San Antonio but unfortunately have time for only a few restaurants. These are my days and choices for the four of us.

Day 1 - Fly into Austin. Foodtrucks in Soco for Lunch. Hit the BBQs in Lockhart. Try to do multple restaurant "sampler platters" between us to try a lot of stuff. Then 5 nights in SA.
Day 2 - Lunch at Buckhorn (I have a gift certificate). Dinner at Feast
Day 3 - Day at Natural Bridges. Have to get lunch there. Dinner at the Tejas Rodeo
Day 4 Mi Tierra for an early lunch. Rest of the day at Rancho Cortez starting at 1pm.
Day 5 Looking for a lunch place on the south side of town. Somewhere near the missions. Dinner at La Gloria.

As you can see, not alot of time to try different places but anybodies 2 cents would be nice.

Either way, my wife tells me my local Smashburger is closed. Oh well.... certainly many more local subpar burgers to try if the kids force the issue on short notice.

Coconut Creek/Margate/Parkland 'local' great restaurants??

The poster wasn't specifically asking for Coral Springs so I tried not to talk to much about it but I must comment on Big Bear. I enjoyed my first trip there 8 years ago but since I refuse to do chains, I mistakenly didn't go back as I thought it was a chain. Recently rediscovered Big Bear and after 4 visits over the past 3 years, i have to say the salads and burgers are very, very good. For a night out with the family, this is on my short list in the area.

Please note that Medellin just got written up by the Sun Sentinel with great reviews. While I don't swear by the Sun Sentinel, I would just like to point out that I am not the only person who appreciates this place.

Smashburger to open!

Been there way to many times as it is close to my house in Coral Springs. Not that good IMO. After a few bucks worth of toppings and its over the price of a Charm City Burger. Throw in bad fries and you have a totally waste of an evening but at least it fills up the kid's bellies.

The Rebel House - Boca Raton

Went here 3 weeks ago and loved, loved, loved it. Who cares if its loud. If thats your problem go the library. The food was cutting edge and packed with flavor. Corn on the Cob with aioli was incredible. They had a Manhattan menu if you like to check out different drinks. Mouth watering thinking about my next trip over there.

Coconut Creek/Margate/Parkland 'local' great restaurants??

A little farther north of Parkland on 441 is Sushi Yoshi. Typical sushi but it does have a large korean menu. Not as good as Gabose but certainly not as expensive and closer.

Alse a bit farther north of Parkland on 441 is a Brazilian Bakery called Casa do Pao which I absolutely love. So reasonable and so tasty. Great cheap lunch also.
22829 N State Rd 7
Boca Raton, FL 33428

In Parkland on 441 is Cafe Bella Sara. Overpriced Italian. Unfortunately, its the closest placed to my house for a drink before heading home after a night out. Next door is Japango which is overpriced but great quality japanese. They have a full bar which is nice and a nice vibe.

Never been to Rock and Roll Ribs but it gets good reviews. A few doors down is Medellin. Mom and pop columbian. Very, very reasonable and huge portions.
(954) 755-0941 4631 N State Road 7 Coral Springs, FL 33067

Best Restaurant in Coral Springs is La Spadas Subs. They put a "blanket" of meat over the veggies to keep them in. So wonderful. The peppers rock.

3 Dinners in Tampa

A bit of research has led me to Cafe Ponte and perhaps Ted Peters.

China Yuan certaily looks quite interesting as Chinese here in the Ft. Lauderdale is pretty much mall quality. Frog and Hot Pot can really hit the spot after a long day at Bush Gardens. i have to look at the wimauma a bit more. Looks very, very intresting. Del Rio cafe style food is quite prelevent in this area so i'll have to pass there. same goes for peruvian Terra Sur Cafe although I do love a great Ceviche.

Ella's Americana Folk Art Cafe looks quite interesting, especially with the pic of Elvis.

Thanks for the recs so far. I'll chime back in later when we get close with our final choices and see who hates what!

3 Dinners in Tampa

Coming in town so the kids can go to Bush Gardens for a couple of days but need the three best, most interesting places to eat in Tampa or the area afterwards for the four of us.

Family of 4 with two kids ages 9 and 11 who eat everything, including raw foods. We love a great expereince, a great plate, interesting parings, cool foods.... Anything different is good. Price is not important. Prefer casual dress but can do better.

Coming from Miami area so no cuban or floribean unless it is something out of the world that we can't get here. Love small plates and asian. Italian isn't our favorite unless its uber interesting. Any help would be mucho appreciated.

Will be in town a fourth night and going to the sponge docks. I heard Mykonos and Hellas are the top 2 there.

Great Casual Omakase??

Our best Omakase experience was at Sushi Kaito in Encinitas. Looking for a great restaurant to match our experience. Someplace casual where we can wear shorts or jeans, maybe sit at the bar and talk to the chef, but most importantly is great sushi. Help us. We are staying close to Fisherman's Wharf but have a car and will travel anywhere in the SF area. Thanks for advice in advance.

Easy good dinner in San Jose, on the way to Monterey

Flyng in on a thursday night to SJC from Hawaii and driving down to Monterey. Looking for some good food in San Jose region on the way down to Monterey close to the airport or highway on the way down to Monterey. Given that we just came from a month in Hawaii and live in Florida where Mexican food sucks, we would love some really authentic great stuff. Fast, casual.... you get the idea. Any good recommendations?

We heard you have to pick it up early at the places that make it (looking at Mana Bu's in honolulu). Can you take it with you to eat later and if so, does it have to stay cold? Do you eat it at room temperature? In other words, I want to take some on a hike and eat it in 3-4 hours. How do I make sure its ok?

La Creperie in Lauderhill

Surprised that this restaurant had never been reviewed or recommended in the past as it has been on my short list to get to over the past few years and never got there.

It showed up on my map back in 2005 when the sun sentinel listed in the top 100 in SE Florida. It is also next door to Rosie Baby (Bar with live restaurant and weak New Orleans cuise) and Su Shin (Sushi place also on my list that I have yet to make it to)

Went there tonight for date night with the wife. The place is medium sized with two front rooms, each with around 10-15 tables. I understand they have a private room but never looked for it or saw it. The decor is dated with wood paneling and old french pictures, posters, and nick nacks. Light frenchy music. White table clothes but not stuffy in the least. Actually quite relaxed for a nice restaurant.

The service was great. The women who met us at the door (??owner-Suzy???) was cordial and sweet and spoke in a beautiful french accent. She also took our orders and was patient while we hemmed and hawed about what crepe to order. She provided good advice and since the wife and I wanted to the same crepes, she did a nice job of offering to serve them one at a time and then splitting them at the table.

For appetizers, the wife had the French Onion soup which I typically don't like due to the huge salt content but this one was great as was the lovely melted cheese on top. The size of the bowl of soup was huge and it was FILLING to say the least. I had the escargot with tons of garlic butter. Six in the shell. From afar, our server noticed me using up all the bread, and quickly brought out a huge basket to continue my dipping. I still don't know if I like escargot but I know I love the garlic butter! Other choices which sounded very good where home made country pate made from chicken and pork and the viichyssoise with leeks.

There are non crepe offering for dinner such as duck, frog legs, quiche, but we didn't go there for that stuff. It was crepes or nothing!

We started with a crepe of Merguez sausage, Blue Cheese, and Ratatouille. Very big and very filling. Bold flavors. Certainly not for the faint of heart. We very much liked it. The dinner up to this point was so filling, the wife could barely try the next crepe and we took 1/2 of it home to one of the little ones to snack on. Our second crepe was the Seafood crepe featuring shrimp, scallop, perch, and perhaps tilapia? It was in a light white sauce which I had them add cheese to, in an attempt to raise the decadence quotient. It worked. Love it. Once again, so filling. Not as bold in flavor as the Merguez but it packed a punch none the less. There many others to choose from but we were so happy with our two choices. Many, many vegeterian choices.

Unfortunately, we were so full that we couldn't do a dessert crepe which I was dying to try. Fruit, chocolate, ice cream and flaky goodness will have to wait.

Counting a nice bottle of red for $28, the bill with a nice tip was a bit over $100 which I thought was decent for the food volume. I want to come back on a thursday when they run a special of about $78 for a 5 course AND a bottle of wine. We will definitely come back for dinner perhaps even with the kids as I think my kids are well behaved and will easily find crepes they will enjoy but most of all, to get the deserts. The place works best for a date night or a group of friends looking for a quiet night out. Gave it 4 stars. Dinged it for not being a financial bargain and the dated decor. Strengths are the food and service which is what makes it a great restaurant.

Lunch and Dinner Downtown near Aquarium/Centenial Park

Going to spend a weekeday in mid march in dwnt Atlanta. MLK Nat Historic Site then drive over to the Aquarium/World of Coke/Centenial Park area for the rest of the day.

Looking for interesting, excellent food for lunch or dinner. Price doesn't matter and we eat EVERYTHING. Just the best. The more interesting the better. We are a family of four with kids ages 8 and 10 who can eat at the finest restaurants and weird ethnic restaurants . Fine dining with suits and ties wont work though as we will be spending the day walking around in casual clothes. Although we will have a car, I would prefer to walk.

Thank you in advance for recommendations.
