I'm addicted to Cremeland, Manchester NH

Right on! Ice cream is great, but start with the fried clams and then have dessert. I have been going there since I was a kid growing up in Manchester in the 1970s. I now live in NC, but often have cravings for Cremeland's fried clam roll. The fried clams are absolutely fresh and still briny from the ocean. Best in town and among the best I have ever had. Everytime I come back (including tomorrow) it's the first stop I make after leaving the airport.

Veranda Restaurant in DC?

What's the word on the new restaurant on P st, the Veranda. Am trying to decide where to go tonight, Christmas eve.

Best and worst on the Outer Banks

The salt herring for breakfast at Nags Head Pier would be worth a trip even if the restaurant was in the desert.

Chinese Restaurants outside of Chinatown?

Thanks for the tip, and the second. Finally made it to Chin Chin and it was great. The Peking Duck two ways was worth the price of admission. Great atmosphere too. Many thanks.

Managua, Nicaragua

Thanks for the tip! My hotel is across the street from the airport so I will look for this stand and keep eating chili rellenos until I find the right one. Too bad the World Cup is over...

Havana food--any new info since the '04 thread?

Lots of great places to eat in Havana. Los Nardos, across from the Capitolio, and La Palengue, near the Palacio de Convenciones, are two of my favorite restaurants. Cheap, popular with locals, and fresh, very well prepared Cuban cuisine. These two are just the tip of the iceberg. Lots of great Paladares (private restaurants) as well.

Managua, Nicaragua

Will be passing through for a day. Any suggestions for lunch, then dinner? Markets?

Durham Alivia's Bistro

They still have not worked out the kinks unfortunately. Slow, slow service. Food uneven and often overcooked. Nice atmosphere for sure, but general sense of disarray Report from a friend who had dinner there a few nights ago, "Worse than disappointing." For a sure thing, better to head over to Vin Rouge on Ninth Street. Quality consistent, atmosphere less self-conscious. Service prompt and professional and bistro staples have pizazz.

Best and worst on the Outer Banks

Surprised by the lack of info on Ocracoke. Back Porch restaurant is among the best on the Outer banks. Ocracoke Coffee House proves that going to the beach does not mean bad coffee all week. Howard's Pub for a pound of steamed shrimp to go, for a picnic on the beach.

quintessential memphis & nashville

I second Rotiers. Get the patty melt. And Brown's (21st and Blair) for burgers. Cantrell's BBQ across the river, and Gerst Haus near the Titans stadium. And, do not miss, Prince's Hot Chicken Shack.

Charleston SC, Weekend in May

Raval on King St, across from Fish, for a glass of wine and a tapa or two before dinner. 39 Rue de Jean is right around the corner too.

Half full in Carrboro

After three weeks of watching people come and go from Glass Halfull in Carrboro, a new wine bar, tapas, bar, wine shop, I decided to give it a try. Quick impression. Glass is half full. Not spilling at the brim, but not half empty either. Excellent atmosphere, good prices and decent selction of affordable wines. Food is uneven (latkes, asparagus dishes were uninspired; butternut squash dip, right on) and service is not up to snuff yet, still working on finding its mojo. Worth a second shot.

Chinese Restaurants outside of Chinatown?

Looking for a good Chinese restaurant north of Chinatown, preferably around Gramercy Park, Murray Hill, or Midtown. Suitable for a business dinner.
